jessx Posted December 19, 2010 at 09:31 AM Posted December 19, 2010 at 09:31 AM I think alot of people are unsure about Céline because she's just so comfortable in her own skin and doesn't really care what people think, where as alot of artists these days seem to manufactured; differing from the norm. That's only my opinion though! When I told my best friend, whos a big indie fan, that I adored Céline, she went and bought one of her cd to see what it is I liked! She never laughed, and told me what songs she liked! I think it depends on whether you have true friends, who accept youx Quote
celine_1983 Posted December 19, 2010 at 10:24 AM Posted December 19, 2010 at 10:24 AM Most people I speak to think it's kinda funny I'm a Celine fan. Most can't deny she's an amazing singer. But does anyone get the feeling as soon as they know you're a fan they jus can't help makin a joke out of it! People at work generally make fun out of her to annoy me. I think you have to laugh it off. Celine isn't a trend, she's a classic - especially if you're a younger fan and your friends are into the latest fad - people can be off about her. But in the end I think true friends respect each others tastes - all those guys who were takin the piss bought me a mousemat and mug they had specially printed with photos of Celine on them. They thought it was hysterical but I was made up with them! One of my friends though I don't think will ever be impressed with Celine - I missed her wedding to go to a concert - even though I already went to the same concert the night before! Whoops! Quote
celine-rc Posted December 19, 2010 at 01:55 PM Posted December 19, 2010 at 01:55 PM Last year, I changed school and I was friends with these girls who were always laughing at me because I like Céline. They were acting as if I was some disease, they were telling me I had just not like her anymore because she's not ''cool'' and everything. They were basically telling me that I wasn't allowed to like Céline. Then, I changed friends and they accept me like that and they even really like it. One of then even calles me ''little Céline''. They accept me as I am and that's true friends. I agree with both Jessx and Celine 1983. If your friends are true friends, they won't laugh at you because of your favorite signer. I'm really happy for you that you have new friends who accept you for who you are. I agree on that, it's such a silly thing to laugh at someone about. Teenagers are so obsessed with being the same and go with the flow, is it even impossible to have an idol that aren't among the "coolest" new acts? They can think whatever they want about it but when they have nasty comments and are laughing at you they have crossed the line. jespa Posted December 20, 2010 at 03:52 AM Posted December 20, 2010 at 03:52 AM I'm 13 and most of my friends don't really criticize my "love" for Celine so I don't really know how it feels like to be in your position. However since YOU are struggling, all I have to say is forget about those who make fun of you. They are not worth your time and you don't have to please them. Let them listen to the music they listen to because they're the ones who are missing out on a bunch of things. Some people out there just don't appreciate beautiful music. Just forget about them, lift your head up high, and be proud to be a Celine fan because it's what makes you. This is your life and don't let them control you just because your taste in music differs from them. Dang...this is probably the deepest "paragraph" I've ever wrote/typed. celine-rc Posted December 20, 2010 at 12:49 PM Posted December 20, 2010 at 12:49 PM (edited) I'm fourteen too and I feel the same way. It's the same thing here. It's always fun and comforting to know that there are other people who are living the same thing. It used to be my friends but know that I changed friends, they don't. It's stupid guys that laugh though. They even embrace it and call the ''petite Céline''. Thanks for the support because it isn't always easy. maceta_biloxi Posted December 20, 2010 at 06:06 PM Posted December 20, 2010 at 06:06 PM yes! and I really hate it. When people find out I'm a Céline fan, they always beging to express their feeling for Céline, hate or love. And then they make sure I know that I'm too old to be a fan and that my music taste sucks (from those who don't like Céline) That's why I never tell people that I'm a fan and VERY few people know I'm travelling to Las Vegas to see her in March. I just know the reaction I will get, you are nuts! spending all that money on her, bla bla bla. That's why I just keep it to myself Clearly they haven't met Ramona? Terre Posted December 20, 2010 at 08:54 PM Posted December 20, 2010 at 08:54 PM My friends and family have never made fun of me for being a Céline fan. Apparently they think I'm being crazy or silly sometimes but I think they're right and we laugh about it together. I've never tried to hide my fandom from them and they totally accept me for who I am. When I was younger I often worried that non-friends would make fun of me or make mean comments if they knew I'm a Céline fan so I didn't want them to know about my fandom. I was even ashamed of being a fan of someone who isn't "cool". At some point I told myself I was too old to be a diehard fan of a celebrity as I was no longer a teenager. I guess I worried that other people would think I'm too old to be a fan. Then I decided there's no way I'm gonna hold back my Céline enthusiasm no matter what others think. I understand it can be hard to be openly Céline fan especially when you're a teenager. I totally respect people who refuse to hide their fandom despite these problems. People who make fun of others should grow up and get a life. In my opinion, if your friend makes fun of you for being a Céline fan they're not your real friend. celinerific Posted December 21, 2010 at 12:58 AM Posted December 21, 2010 at 12:58 AM Don't let it bother you. I happens to everyone, especially when you're a new fan. After awhile, people around you get used to it. I wear my fanaticism on my sleeve. I love Celine and I shout it to the world. It's one of the first things people learn about me when they meet me. It kind of defines you in a way. For me, when people know I'm a Celine fan, in some ways they see me as more grown up, more caring, more generous, compassionate... it's interesting. And you know, it's true too because Celine influences her fans to be better people for sure. I guess in a way, you need to play along with them and laugh with them... joke around, but also make it evident that you're a Celine fan and your down right proud of it and that there's nothing that could ever change that. That's how I deal with people like that, and after awhile, like I said, people around you get used to it, accept it, and it just kind of becomes part of you and it's normal that you're a Celine fan because you're YOU... Like it's a quirk that you have and it's a packaged deal. All or nothing lol. And plus, I'm sure all artists get similar stuff like that. Perhaps Celine fans get slammed more, but just goes to prove we're dedicated and a few words won't do a thing. We've got high tolerance for stuff like that, I can tell you that much! artist Posted December 22, 2010 at 04:55 PM Posted December 22, 2010 at 04:55 PM For many reasons dear: 1. Celine was overplayed during the Titanic period and people who don't speak a ward of Englsih knew her so, saying that you are a Celine fan is not something unique for them.2. Drama, Drama, Drama. Unfortunately, for non-fans, that is what Celine is. The embodiement of drama, although it's not true.3. People don't care about voices anymore. All what they want is a hot singer. Thats why she is my best friend becasue she respects celine and i love it and how she puts up with me all the time on about her... she is very good like that I'm happy for you Nancy that she respects the fact that you love Celine. I think that means that she's a true friend since she accepts you how you are. It's no fun when people see it as a problem and always keep trying tp change you. I know how it is, I've been there but now, I have friends that are extremly patient and understanding. That's awesome. You have a great best friend. I do don't I but it wasn't always like that because at one point her boyfriend used to be really really nasty to me about celine... but now everything is good... but i still don't get why people don't see how amazing celine is?
