Why do people make fun of Celine fans?

Are there other fans who have the same problem as me, why other people like friends ....

who always make fun of me because i am a Celine fan, sometimes it makes me sad ,and i think they don't understand who Celine is like

It never happened to me, but I tell you that you have to know that being a fan of Celine Dion is a kind of thrill and gift for you because you can get to know Celine not only as a singer but also you can discover that wonderful human being that she is.

 

In my case, my friends and family were very surprised when I first told them that I'm a huge Celine Dion fan, but a positive way, you know, because, I remember I was one evening with my father and a friend of him at a café. The friend of my father asked me "Well, and what kind of music do you like? Do you have any favourite singer?" And I proudly answered "Yes, my favourite singer is Celine Dion." and he was like "OMG Celine Dion, that's important stuff you know, what a nice surprise!" (I'm sure he was expecting me to tell him that a fan of Britney Spears, Lady Gaga, David Guetta... etc, which are great, but not my favourite ones)

 

And well, first of all, you must know that being a fan of Celine is a very special gift and I wouldn't listen to that people very much because they don't know how nice Celine is.

 

But what do they say? Do they say she sings bad? Why do they make fun of you for being a Celine fan?

and i guess they do what they do becuz we get annoyed easliy when they talk badly abut celine , so it's kinda if they r teasin' us lol

for my friends i know they don't mean what they say abut her , but i always get mad

Actually, one of my cousins is a die-hard fan of Tokio Hotel and, you know, as a Celine Dion fan, that's totally the opposite. Whenever she says things like Oh, how can you like that woman? she's so old! and I'm like Listen: first of all, she's not that old; she has won 5 Grammy Awards, how many Grammys have Tokio Hotel received? Oh, zero!; "That woman" (as you call her) is a legend in the music world, in fact, she's the world's biggest selling female artist. Finally, she has a singnature song which every single person in this planet knows by heart, and that's "My heart will go on". Celine can continue touring, doing shows and releasing albums for as long as she wants, but, what's gonna happen with those guys you like in a decade? They'll be over!

Some people are surprised that someone (for example me) is fan of Céline because they think she is not "IN". They know few of her songs (most of them only MHWGO), they think she is affected ... I think it´s also problem in way that media presented Céline and her image (Céline Dion= "romantic" singer for "mature woman" ... radio not playing her new songs ... but it´ s a diffrent story). But there are also people which became interesting more about Céline when I told I´m fan and than I´m very happy I can tell them more about her and try to change her "media image" in their minds.

People are always laughing at me at school. When ever I have to go in front of the class for something, they always yell out mean things, laugh at her, ask stupid questions (like; with what kind of water does she wash, does she eat her kids... etc and much much more) It's really annoying. Plus, it's always the same people. They don't only laugh at Céline but at René and the twins too. I like this topic. It's always nice to know that we're not alone. I couldn't agree more though that this is a blessing we have. I mean, it really goes beyond the music and it's just so amazing! It's all worth it. ''Live and let live''. I really like it. It's not the fact that they don't like Céline that bothers me, it's the way they say it, how it's like a bad thing if you like her almost as if we all had some kind of contageous disease. I mean, they can't just say that she's not their favorite and that's it. It's like she's old, she's ugly, she's married to her grand-father, she can't sing! I try not to get mad, but it's just so hard!

no they not say bad things , it's more like ; they know Celine only, like Duri said : from the song MHWGO, she is to soft to emotional , that she is not IN , and also like the media presented Celine and stuff like that

they don't know her like fans do , and i do like other singers to like Beyonce, Pink,....

 

But Celine for me is special , she is always positive , funny .... and being a fan of Celine is really a beautiful gift like Celine fan 77 said

I've been a fan of Celine Dion since I was 11, and since then I've met a lot of different people with their own opinions. I've heard a lot of different things but what they all have in common is that they think I'm crazy for having a kind of sanctuary in my room and a tattoo with her name on my skin. I don't care if people think I'm crazy, or if they don't understand it, as long as I'm happy being who I am. People who love me for what I am will stay, and others won't. The hardest thing for me is when the comments are not about me and my "crazyness" but about her. Whatever they say about her...it hurts. But I don't expect people to be polite and smart enough to realise that she is important for me, that she is the person I admire and therefore some comments are completely inappropriate and cross the line... and it doesn't matter if you explain yourself or not. These kind of things are the ones that show you what a person is like, who is a worthy friend, who is disrespectful, who is smart...

Being a fan of Celine is the best thing that could happen to us, because it make us to be true with ourselves, thus we are true to others, and that's exactly what we get in exchange. whether we like it or not:)

I think every fan, of any artist, has this problem. And I do hope that most people are strong enough to go through it and ignore those people, who obviously don't know what respect is.

I've never have this problems in that extreme level, some friends tell me that Celine is annoying because she screams in almost every song and because in interviews she comes across immature, but that's not really bad to say. Other people tell me that i have good taste in music because I rather listen to Celine than black eyed peas (which i like a lot though) or Britney (that sucks so bad, i mean the girls doesn't really sing, she sounds like she is in the pooper)... any way.

 

Other people think I'm crazy because i buy expensive tickets for her concerts and go more than once to the same show.

 

The truth is that we have great taste in music, we are humble people, down to earth. Is not that Celine taught us all that but we are attracted to her because in a way we share a lot of her qualities. We are one of the bunch we are unique. Our friend are the ones who are one from the bunch, lol.

 

All in all, your taste in music is something personal and you shouldn't change or feel ashame because Miley-Cyirus-fans says Celine is not cool. You are the only one who can say what is cool and right for you.

me too! i hate it when that happens. when i say her name, what you said happens or i get the other response "she's hot, right?" and my family makes fun of me too about it. well it suck horribly but that's life! music is music and if people don't like what you like then they can just suck it.

Don't let it bother you. I happens to everyone, especially when you're a new fan. After awhile, people around you get used to it. I wear my fanaticism on my sleeve. I love Celine and I shout it to the world. It's one of the first things people learn about me when they meet me. It kind of defines you in a way. For me, when people know I'm a Celine fan, in some ways they see me as more grown up, more caring, more generous, compassionate... it's interesting. And you know, it's true too because Celine influences her fans to be better people for sure.
