i'm sorry if i may sound negative, but this whole song was just an abortion. i may be a huge celine fan, but no one can do that part as well as cindy lauper. that is her part and it will always be. the rest of the singers in the new version, well they just sucked.

Sorry but Cindy Lauper sounded like an annoying baby crying while singing that part.

IMO Celine totally OWNED it.

HAHAHA :rofl_2: that was a good one :thumbsup2:

Of course she did

:sofunny: She DID! :kicking:

And let's say what we ALL think a bit :msn-wink: Celine should sing the WHOLE song for all of us :whistling:

(If I want to see a full Celine performance, the latest TTEOW-Trailer, will the full "All By Myself" performance, makes me shiver all over :in_love: )

I love that Celine stopped to talk to a few of the reporters, many just walked right by. I'm so glad they asked her to do Cyndi Lauper's part because I'm a huge Cyndi fan and I know she was pleased with Celine's contribution. They worked together at Divas Las Vegas, so for me it's awesome!

No way did Céline come even near Cindy’s passionate performance unfortunately. It was part cuz Céline doesn’t even know how to approach certain songs and she desperately seeks guidance; she prolly is just afraid to step out of her comfort zone. Good vocal performance is not everything and really you can hear that in the new version of the song - with every artist.

Here a nice Pavarott and Friends version:

I agree, awesome song and great vocalist. she also sang with Bon Jovi on "Who Says You Can't Go Home".

It's hard to make the song better the 2nd time around but it's all for a great cause and they'll raise a ton of money and

that's all that really matters in the long run. I wonder why Gaga wasn't there though.

I also was happy she wasn't there. The rappers were ALMOST too much. Now that I think about it, and have listened to the song more, I kind of enjoy their part. But still.. :whistling:

This was a sham, a travesty, and a mockery that should've never seen the light of day, and it absolutely sickens me that Rene has lost his guidance of Celine to a bloated, monstrous pig of a company like Sony. May Lionel Ritchie and Quincy Jones find their eternal punishment someday for spitting on the legacy of Michael Jackson like this. I can only hope that God will open the eyes of the Dion family someday and lead Celine away from this. She is far too beautiful of a person and too talented of a singer to be used like this, and I can only think that stardom has blinded both she and her husband.

Thats all I have to say. I know that no one will agree with me here. Everyone is too starstruck by Celine to see the truth of the matter.

But this song was to help, not to only please the ears of people.

Thanks but, I'm not "too starstruck by Celine to see the truth of the matter." The truth of the matter, is that this song was made for a genuinely GREAT reason, where an immense amount of true artists come together, to help raise money for Haiti. Not for awards. For a good cause. Even if the song was terrible, as some people see it, they should see the effort put into the song, in order to achieve a greater purpose.

No the truth of the matter was that Michael would've written a new song, not diminish the original. This is all about what Michael would've wanted. I mean, it was HIS song, regardless of what Lionel get-richie and Quintillionaire Jones like to say about it. But Michael's dead, right? So who gives a rip about the legacy of the song, so long as someone else with a big name behind it can claim it for their own.

And BTW, doesn't it strike anyone strangely of all the great parts of the song, they had to give Celine the part of Cindi Lauper? I mean, Cindi's a great song WRITER, but her singing talent isn't anything to write home about. Sadder still, Celine didn't seem to improve upon the singing. IMHO, she diva'd the heck outta the part and it wound up almost as intelligible as when Cindi sang it.

Like I said, I still love Celine always and will pray for her and her family to see the light one day, but its tragic in the world we live in where degrading the legacy of song written by incredible humanitarian, prolific songwriter and person Celine IDOLIZED can be used to further careers of many that don't yet, and in some cases will ever, deserve it.

But wouldn't Michael have appreciated, none the less, that this song was branched out for something then better, then JUST a song? I'm not saying that just because Michael is dead, that the song can be used any way possible. But there was a deeper meaning to recording this song, that Michael would have appreciated the world out of. At least I feel like he would. I don't think this is about "big names" claiming the song as their own. Who's doing that?! Lionel?! It's not like someone's putting this song on their album, so they can win a Grammy.

I don't think Michael would be complaining about who's singing. But rather praising the use of the song, and the meaning. Because it's what he believed in.

No, I can't stress this enough....Michael would've written a new song for this situation. It was just the way he was. He poured his whole emotion into specific situations with equally specific songs.

Yes, Lionel Ritchie stands to gain financially the most from this because of legalities that complicated the first WATW. So there is much more "taking" than "giving" for Lionel now.

And as far as Michael complaining about who was singing: Do you honestly believe that he would want a piece of filth like Lil Wayne - who openly mocked him as homosexual - to be part of this? And do you think he would think so highly of Quincy now after he comes out and makes a LUDICROUS statement like "Michael didn't want to be black"?

We can go on for days about if this song was for the "greater good". How can it be for the "greater good" when it compromises the core values of its original meaning and the basic principles of its original songwriter?

And if all this was for the "greater good" and should have such a broad spectrum of use, then why didn't Geldof gather up modern day artists to remake "Do they know its Christmas?" when the Tsunami struck?

Maybe its just because sometimes a song doesn't transcend its meaning as much as people would love the world to believe.

I know he would have. But he's not here anymore. That opportunity is lost now, but we could dwell on what Michael would have done. Or we can appreciate what's been done to help Haiti, and to.. I guess honour Michael. Not in the best way, I'll partially agree. But it was done. & No, I don't honestly believe that. I do too, think the song would have done perfect without the rapping s*** put into it. But it is what it is.

Many people including myself felt this version wasn't great. At the end of the day, the song goes for a good cause. Sorry Quincy, people didn't check their egos at the door during this updated version. Some of the singers sounded as though they were trying to outdo one another. I remember when the original version came out. On VHI it was televised for weeks. It was a different era for Michael Jackson when many of his songs were magical. WATC had a special vision with creative artists. I noticed Céline's line were toned down-thank goodness. Sorry to admit this, but she sounded like she was struggling with the notes. I wish Lionel and Quincy had given her other lines that were in her range. I rarely comment on Céline's performances - this one was not one of her finest moments,in my opinion.

Céline didn't do this song for herself, Sony, or Rene! She did this for Haiti! She herself said she knew she had to be a part of it, there was no saying no to this project, she had to be there to lend her voice. Look how many of her fans alone have bought the track and helped Haiti in the process! And a lot of the popular artists fans will do the same, there will be a lot of money raised. She is once again being selfless and taking the time to use her talents for greater good. This song, no matter how good or bad we think it is, will raise a lot of money for Haiti's recovery efforts, and that is the success every artist there was going for.

This project was not about creating a masterpiece. This project was about human kindness, "standing together as one", and selflessness, lending what we have whether it be a voice, a hand, time, or a few dollars to help Haiti :flowers:

I agree with what most people said, that it's for charity and the rest doesn't matter ^_^ but i have to comment this one...

If she wasn't sick, Mary J Blige would have. Otherwise Jennifer Hudson or Charice (I'm surprised she isn't in the song). They even could have asked Cyndi.

I think you are on the wrong forum my friend. You are out of your mind if you think Mary J Blige would have gotten that notes. Keep telling yourself that she was sick, because she sounded perfectly healthy to me. The only thing that I hear is that she has a serious problem staying on pitch. Why do you even bother posting hear if you think Celine can't sing?
