Comparing the original to the 2010 rendition is inevitable in a few instances. Those who remember the first version can't help but think of Cyndi Lauper when they hear an emotional Celine Dion breathe new energy into the memorable, "well, well, well/let us realize, a change will only come" or when teen newcomer Justin Bieber takes on Richie's opening lines.

I liked the updated sound...but I kind of wish Celine was featured throughout the song like Jennifer Hudson was...I saw many parts where Celine could have belted out a few notes...but that's just my humble opinion

Okay MJB, Miley, etc. Autotuned to hell, and trying to hide it, horrible. Just because an artist is popular doesn't mean they should be in it, LOL. It was crap, in my opinion. Celine's part was great, I liked Jennifer Hudsons, and a few others were cool. I almost ripped my ears off at Jamie Foxx, Lil Wayne, the rap, the sugarland chick, Miley, etc. Barbra was good, but she was boring.

Ok, so I was looking back at some behind the scenes of Celine's recording of this...and she had some amazing notes...but there weren't in the whole song!?!? Argh. Kindda mad that they didn't add her amazing notes to the final song, it would have sound much better, but I can't complain, it is for charity.

OMG !!! what is that ??? this is atrocious !!! Some were good (a few including Celine ,Pink) but most of the others can't even sing. I think this version should remain to answer the question " How to ruin a wonderful song ?"

I just finished watching the opening ceremonies in Vancouver and I didn't see 'We are the World' being played?? Was it on the pre-show? When did they show it? I'm confused

All I can is WTF, they totally ruined a good song. The only good singers were Celine, which I turned up and Pink. What was With the Rap crap, seriously. They should have done that song, with the most powerfull and talented singers. Can I say who ever did the editing, did a poor job a High schooler could do better. God.

A classic example of trying to fix something that doesn't need fixing. Celine didn't sing enough parts in the song. Fergie ruined Celine's big notes! What a load of rubbish!

And what's up with musical engineering these days? No professionals left? Do they need someone to show them how to use autotune(more like "how not to use it")? Definitely NOT on the whole track! I'm really pissed, didn't expect it to be that cheap.

OK, my take on it? I like the idea, I like the change, but the execution was poor. Really poor. It was, like most of you have said, a mess.

 

I still don't get how Justin Bieber is given the opening line of the song. When I heard it, I was instantly turned off. It needed a strong intro but his voice doesn't cut it. Following that, J-Hud got quite a few parts, but she always hits it out of the park, so, I have no qualms with her. At least, in the studio, they can tone her powerful voice down a notch. And then it went an octave down by Sugarland's Jennifer Nettles? Josh was his usual classical self, over enunciating a bit. OK, Tony Bennett is class, but he was pretty monotonous there. MJB was auto-tuned? Oy.... MJ and JJ sound alike, as though she wasn't even recorded. Cheesy bit on the video, though. Barbra was great, but tremendously boring. Miley? Enrique? Who was the female voice accompanying Enrique? That wasn't too bad. Mr. Foxx? He's doing harmony as a main line? Does Wyclef sing like that normally? I hope it's just traditional Haitian roots, otherwise... Adam was OK. Love, love, LOVE Pink! I'm thinking next was a Winan, ya? I'm glad they kept MJ's first line of the bridge. It was good in its original version. Usher? Hmm... I'm still disappointed by the Grammy's.

 

Then, of course, Céline! Sounds so much better than the video shoot. And then, what the #$%&! Fergie came up?! Totally took out Céline's "Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah!" bit. (And whatever happened to her ad libs? I thought she had so much more?! Not happy...

 

And why wasn't Gladys Knight given a bit part at least? She got stuffed with the "all-star" choir. Oh goodness, a Jonas? Eek! Randy Jackson can sing? Really? Nicole Scherzinger wasn't too bad. Toni, OK. Who were the two female African American singers? Not too bad either. Loved Santana, but uh, 'Lil Wayne really can't sing. At least he was honest with himself. Akon. Who's the female electric guitarist? T-Pain, painful auto tune. And why is Mr. Foxx putting on a fake voice? Rap part was OK but could be better... I liked that they got the Haitian children to sing. Kanye and Will.i.am? Hmm...

 

Well, at least we now know that Haiti is pronounce Ah-Ee-Tee.

 

Sorry for the long post, just needed to get it out. Still can't believe Céline's ad libs were not included!

What the heck? Hudson, groban, pink and celine are the only singers here. The rest of the song is a big autotune mess. And what's even more funny, is that THE singer of that atrocious remake, which is celine, is the only one who is coached in the booth? Who are they mocking?

 

About fergie, aka, unesthetic surgery face, singing in the middle of celine's part, it is because celine is starting to belt before the end of her last sentence. If they didn't let fergie sing that part, it would have look weird.

And wow, so many negative comments about the project I think the most important line is sung towards the end "Haiti needs us" 75 artists colloborated to bring a 2010 version of this song for a humanitarian effort, including Celine Dion. I personally love it, but even if I didn't, I'd still support it for the Haitian relief effort.

I AM SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO dissapointed!!! where are all Céline's parts!?!? in the news items about it, you could hear a lot of different vocals, and a miminimum has been used! Some people are heard through out the song, but not Céline. BAH!

 

the song itself... it's oke. It's not mind blowing. I think they should have made a whole new song and not ride on the MJ hype wave... but oh well, let's hope it will do, what it's for: raise money for the people of Haïti!

I agree some stars are singing in more parts like Hudson, even just lalaa notes but Celine did only the part we had heard before and was interrupted by Fergie:( I mean she brought the power to the song but it's not enough.... I am really fed up with Jennifer Hudson.. Pink was really nice
