NATS:The UK's leading Air Navigation Services ProviderTemporary updates page Please note: Due to heavy web traffic, the normal site is currently offline. This is a holding page to provide updates on the Icelandic volcanic eruption. You can still access http://www.natsservices.com, http://natscareers.co.uk, and http://www.customer.nats.co.uk as normal. NB Passengers seeking flight updates should consult the websites of their Airlines directly. Statement on Icelandic volcanic eruption: Tuesday April 20, 0245 Since our last statement at 2100 (local time) yesterday, the volcano eruption in Iceland has strengthened and a new ash cloud is spreading south and east towards the UK. This demonstrates the dynamic and rapidly changing conditions in which we are working. Latest information from the Met Office shows that the situation is variable. The information shows that Scottish airsports should be available from 0700 (local time) and more airspace over England may become available from 1300 (local time) although not as far south as the main London airports. We will continue to monitor Met Office information and the situation is likely to change during the course of the day. We will make a further statement at approximately 0900 (local time), today, Tuesday 20 April. NATS is maintaining close dialogue with the Met Office and with the UK's safety regulator, the CAA, in respect of the international civil aviation policy we follow in applying restrictions to use of airspace. We are working closely with Government, airports and airlines, and airframe and aero engine manufacturers to get a better understanding of the effects of the ash cloud and to seek solutions. Previous updates >> About NATS NATS handled 2.2 million flights in 2009, covering the UK and eastern North Atlantic, that carried more than 200 million passengers safely through some of the busiest and most complex airspace in the world.NATS provides en route air traffic control from its centres at Swanwick, Hampshire and Prestwick, Ayrshire.NATS also provides air traffic control services at 15 of the nation's major airports including Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted, Birmingham, Manchester, Edinburgh and Glasgow, together with air traffic services at Gibraltar Airport.Useful links Met Office: Icelandic volcano eruptionCAA: Latest volcanic ash informationCAA Info Alert: Volcanic Hazards and Aviation SafetyNATS: The UK's leading Air Navigation Services Provider Quote CELINE HAS AND ALWAYS WILL WIN THE HEARTS OF MILLIONS,CELINE RULES

Both planes are experimental planes and were staffed with a engineers to monitor the engines closely during the flights. Results are expected today. Quote ...

robert sadler Posted October 24, 2010 at 10:34 AM Author Posted October 24, 2010 at 10:34 AM (edited) Hi thought I would like to share this with you, perhaps someone might be able to spread some light on what may of caused this its a bit amusing in a way too. I work at an international airport, I do all the pushback off stands and use a headset to talk to the cockpit, i push a malaga flight back the other day rushing around trying to get the flight out on time,I would admit I forgot to switch off my mp3 player, the push back commenced after the both engines running at idle and the brakes set the captain of the aircraft said to me can you please make sure you dont have you mp3 player playing please.atc and the cabin where picking it up,I think there was about 225 passengers and crew listening to celine and atc you can see why airlines dont like electrical items switched on before departure and take off i have been in the aviation industry for over 25 years and this is the first time this has ever happened to me or heard of.can someone spead some light on what caused this i did not have the ear pieces in my earsthey where in my pocket but the music was fairly high i dont think mp3 player give of a signal or do they now?this could be an interesting issue here for those mp3 player users on airlines in future.but who cares Celine keeps me good company while i am working . Who cares I may of made more new fans for celine :kicking:I shall still have my mp3 player with me Celine music is much better than some of the ramp workers I work with. CELINE RULES. I am so tempted to try again this will have to be a new craze for me.This what I shall say next time with my headset on and the mp3 player on full blast. The follow is what procedures we have to do talking to the captain of the aircraft, but I will add a little something else.Ground to flight, all external checks are complete ground equipment clear of the aircraft, CELINE AND ME are ready for push back release parking brake clear to start 2 and then 1 idle. I will have to try it a long haul with more passengers on see if I get any comments. CELINE RULES. Quote CELINE HAS AND ALWAYS WILL WIN THE HEARTS OF MILLIONS,CELINE RULES

robert sadler Posted October 30, 2010 at 07:40 PM Author Posted October 30, 2010 at 07:40 PM Hi guys I was able to see how the mp3 player can cause a problem to a aircraft,I went on board a ground run of a Boeing 767 with a couple of engineers, they explained and showed me what can happen. All explained in the cockpit it does apply to some aircraft, some will get affected some may not as they suggested and showed me a mp3 player can act like a magnet and can affect parts of the navigation parts of the aircraft even up where the passengers sit, it can affect the compass and instrument landing system but only very slight but still can be dangerous and a very tiny but only slight movement that was halfway up the cabin where and parts of navigation points can pick it up scary a i never thought things like this could happen, but in the cockpit you only have to be at the door and it affects the navigation system also depends on the atmosphere fairly badly.so when I had my mp3 player still switched on it was received down the live electrical system such as my headset it was the nearest point of connection also being under the cockpit area. So now I know why it states any electicial items must be switched of before take off and landing even inflight thats the reason you have inflight movies etc.http://cdn-www.airliners.net/aviation-phot...7/8/1090875.jpgThis what a Boeing 767 cockpit looks like and this was about the distance, I stood to affect the navigation system.Hope this wont put you off flying cause as we all know we have never had any accidents caused by electrical items switched on and to the best of my knowledge air travel is still the safest means of travel to date and I love it. J-Man Posted October 31, 2010 at 10:18 AM Posted October 31, 2010 at 10:18 AM So Robert, you're saying that there is a (tiny) chance that your playing Celine on your MP3 player out on the ramp, could affect equipment inside the plane such as the navigation system?
