"D'eux" album - Official Topic

I'm listening to "Cherche encore" right now. Celine sure did make "panting" in a song cool long before Britney did with "I'm A Slave 4 U." LOL

I thought that this song was an inspirational one?

It's actually one of the most inspiring songs from the record! The message is very similar to the one from That's The Way It Is: Don't give up, it will all be ok in the end.

It is. I was making a joke at how Celine "pants" at the beginning of the song. "Cherche encore" released years before Britney Spears' "panting" song, "I'm A Slave 4 U." That was the point of my post.

After reading the first 8 pages, and then the last 4 pages... I decided to ask anyway. Maybe it’s written somewhere in between the unread pages, so excuse me if it has been stated before.

Is this release worth paying?

Are there different copies of this release?

Is the DVD with the Spécial Dimanche subtitled, or is it possible to use subtitles? Either French or English, I don’t mind.

(And is this the same content Condor recently added to his youtube?)

40 page booklet? Is it true? Or is it, as I found out in the last 4 pages, just a scan of the original?

Posted
The booklet is, sadly, a bad scan of the original. It includes a foreword by JJG, though.

Hm... I think I should leave it then.

Maybe when I am at a record fair, and I see it for real, I can make a true decision whether I want it or not.

I have this version. Not only his best version, but with also the footage of the album (demo, a DVD contains the release in TV in Quebec, all the music videos, etc.). This has been my third favorite Celine album in his native language, but also his masterpiece album. All the songs has been a incredible sound, a beautiful voice and also a many styles (with the ballad, with Pop-Rock). Pour que tu m'aime encore has been my favorite Celine of all time, and the like all the song of the album. This album has been a personal album for Celine, the song Vole has been a hommage of his niece Karine, died to cystic Fibrosis in 1993. Depiste i love S'il Suffisait d'aimer, D'Elles (my favorite french Celine album), Incognito and Encore un soir, D'eux has been a very beautiful album and his emancipation of his talent.

This album has been a record of all time. This album has been a n.1 in France and stayed in the top during 44 weeks and stayed in the charts for 4 years and sold over 4,5 millions copies in France. The album has been a similar success in Canada. In Quebec, Celine sold over 650 000 copies (and 50 000 in English Canada), a record and Celine conserves this record sales since. And also, this album has been a huge success in the english market all in the world, success very rare for a french album, the album charted all in the world and peaked the top 10 for over 12 countrys outside the French market (incluing a n.1 in Netherland, n.9 in Sweden, n.7 in UK and Ireland). Also, the first single Pour Que tu M'aimes Encore has been today his french signature song, peaked in n.1 in all the french market and has been the success of the year in their markets. Also, the song has been a commercial success in the English market, peaked the top 10 in UK, Irland, Netherland, Sweden and Poland.

Oh yes it does, but event if it was a Sony release, it's not the genuine instrumental versions, it's very bad karaoke versions, very very poor quality.

So those versions are different from the instrumental versions on Un Peu De Nous?

Are they available to listen to anywhere? I did my best trying to buy the CD from somewhere online, but I couldn't find it. I guess there's no chance of that.

The "Un peu de nous" are official original instrumental tracks. Those are very, very bad '90s karaoke tracks !

I just saw on Wiki that Hallyday's last album sold ~1.5M in France (these numbers are crazy) and we are not 100% sure that it cannot threaten D'eux.

I would not worry.

To do this, it would have to sell a couple of millions more, which is unlikely as most of the sales are done (it was released last October).

D'Eux have sold 4M in France so it's a record that will take time to break. And JhH album sales got a boost because of his death.

I´m not sure if it´s interesting to anyone and if it wasn´t posted yet, but the music video of PQTME has reached over 100 million views on youtube. It´s now at 100.370.993 views. It´s her very first french song, which reaches the 100 millions.

It´s again a sign how well known and iconic this song is, it´s her french MHWGO. ;)

It's actually really bad noone posted in this topic the day it celebrated it's 25th birthday! :blushing1: 25 years after it's release it is still a master piece and a total timeless album! :wub2:

I saw this cool article! Google translate below.

https://www.ledevoir...2OfhO3s-eWKdAsg

25 years ago, Céline Dion launched D'eux, the best-selling French-language album in the world. Back on the role of Jean-Jacques Goldman in the advent of a more touching Celine, as well as on the changes of perception initiated by this disc.

"I remember that Jean-Jacques and I used to say to him:" Céline, sing as if you had a little baby in your arms "," says Erick Benzi, co-director and main arranger of D'eux, the French-language album best-selling in the world (nearly 10 million copies), which appeared exactly 25 years ago, on March 30, 1995. Pour que tu m'aimes encore, Je sais pas and J'irai où tu iras ? This is where it is found.

The anecdote from Jean-Jacques Goldman's colleague could not be more in tune with the speech that will immediately accompany the release of this disc. To sum up: in the spring of 1994, the French music star submits to Sony his old dream of offering a cycle of songs to Céline Dion, obtains her assent (as well as that of her agent and husband, René Angélil) , then immerses himself in the universe of his muse with an obsession worthy of a method actor, in order to sew tailor-made refrains translating his doubts and his joys as a bride.

But he will especially urge her - this is the heart of what official history retains - to "disillusion", to do less with her vocal cords, from which tremolo fireworks inevitably spring when she pushes the note in the language of Barbra Streisand. In other words: sing like a little baby in his arms.

At the time, we were trying to find strategies to stop seeing Celine only through the glasses of her manager. We are trying to give it greater agency, to recognize its ability to act on its equipment.

- Line Grenier

The voice of Celine Dion, a block of clay who was only waiting for the sculptor Goldman to reveal her true beauty? Erick Benzi amply nuances this story. If the pair of directors undoubtedly guided Céline, the interpreter certainly did not need to be accompanied sentence by sentence. "I recently listened to the vocal tracks and there is not one to throw away," says the musician, who will later be among the four types of the album 1 Fille et 4 Types (2003).

"Often when I work with a singer, the first takes are used to warm her voice. And there's a whole scene to make it feel comfortable. To make voices, it is for many a difficult moment, it is to be naked, to show its weaknesses. Céline, she does all her interior work upstream. And she is so sure of herself! It was a breath of fresh air - just happiness! - to note from the start that it would not be complicated. The first shots were always perfect. There are songs that she asked to sing, not to do them better, but because she knew she was never going to sing them again. For me, it was unprecedented. "

Legitimate Céline

D'Eux appears at a pivotal moment in Céline Dion's trajectory, underlines for her part the professor in the Communication Department of the University of Montreal Line Grenier. Despite all the efforts made by her team to ensure that she is always considered a full-fledged Quebecer (she very dramatically refuses the Félix for English-speaking artist of the year at the 1990 ADISQ Gala), the three albums in English she published in the early 1990s are in some respects received as a betrayal. She has also struggled, since entering adulthood, to forge a repertoire in French (Dion chante Plamondon, in 1991, is essentially composed of covers).

That the album bears the title D'eux also signals a desire to highlight the singer's influence on her creation. "At the time, we were trying to find strategies to stop seeing Celine only through the glasses of her manager," explains Ms. Grenier. We are trying to give it greater agency, to recognize its ability to act on its equipment. "

Without completely silencing the detractors of the star, Deux thus sets the first milestones in a process of reconsidering his work and his figure. The speeches on the monastic work ethic of the artist and the Quebec team with which he surrounds himself, as well as the imprimatur of a respected songwriter like Goldman, unravel several issues of legitimacy that mark his journey since the 1980s. "Critics persist, but from that point on, critics always come with nuances. "

A sacred album

With titles like Les derniers seront les premiers and La mémoire d'Abraham D'Eux sometimes seem to have been written by Goldman with his guitar in one hand and a Bible in the other. For Erick Benzi, these texts would testify less to proselytizing intentions, than to a will to bow before a universal form - pagan! - sacred. "Jean-Jacques saw Céline someone pure inside, someone who does not cheat. The sacred that is spoken of about them is the sacred of things that go beyond us and transform us, like his voice. "

"Basically, this is our story to René and to me," says Céline Dion in her autobiography, My life, my dream (Robert Laffont, 2000). A rather ambiguous admission in the light of the words of Pour que tu t'aimer encore, which feed a panoply of theories in his disciples ("I will become those others who give you pleasure / Your games will be ours if that is your wish") ).

It was during their participation in the defunct program Stéréo pop that Les sœurs Boulay presented for the first time their reinterpretation of Pour que tu m'aime encore encore. "I remember that I was on the break at that time and that this song seemed obvious to us," says Stéphanie Boulay. But I also remember that we were disturbed when we looked at this text that we knew without really knowing it. "

"It is said that Céline sang in a mannered manner before D'eux, that it was Jean-Jacques Goldman who made Céline touching, relevant. But I think it is given too much credit, "said the singer's longtime admirer. "Me, Céline touches me as much on Dion sings Plamondon. There is less maturity in her voice, she is a little younger, but we believe it. Jean-Jacques Goldman writes refined texts, exceptional melodies, but he went to Celine to find the stradivarius he did not have. Céline brought more to Goldman than Goldman to Céline. "
