Young People Who Like Celine

I'm 22 and have been a fan since I was 11. I never really made it too public until I was in high school, by then I didn't care what people thought. I got teased about it and still do.

 

I remember when I was in high school and I was on the school newspaper and we (the newspaper staff) had to write a biography about each other. In my bio it said I was Celine's #1 fan, after it was published there was a girl who was asking everyone who I was because she was mad that I said I was the #1 fan when she thought she was. Anyway, it became a big thing and she was telling everyone that she wanted to fight me until she finally found out who I was. Everyone thought it was funny because that girl was making such a big deal about Celine. Still to this day when I see people I knew in high school they ask me about Celine and if I am still a fan.

 

Now whenever I tell someone that I like Celine they think I'm crazy. When I tell them that I am going to Vegas not to party like most people my age do but to see Celine for the 5th time they know I'm crazy.

I am 15 years old I love Celine Dion, and a lot of people think I'm weird (to say the least) because of it. When I saw her perform in 2002 on her "A New Day Has Come" special I was captivated, and have loved her ever since. As I was reading some of the posts here a noticed that there were a lot of young guys and girls who like Celine, and I was wondering if anyone of them are made fun of for liking her. I hate it when someone says that she "sucks". How do you deal with it when or if you're riddiculed for liking her?

Sure, sure. It is considered "uncool" to like anything but what's "in". Much less Céline... but if the people that consider it "uncool" would take a moment to listen to her music they would find that she does sing some uptempo songs that might appeal to them. But just remember that you are better because you are your own person and you have your own tastes in music. Never follow everyone else and like what music they decide is "cool". And also, Céline is such a positive artist, and I know for me she is a big reason what I am who I am, because of her positive influence not only through music but because of her example as the kind and generous person she is.

Yeah same with me.... Sometimes when I arrive in my highschool, my friends ask me "so, how is Céline today ?"

I mean, people who are not fans like us cannot understand this magical connection that bonds us all to Céline. Is s kind of love that we all share for the same wonderful person. Her music is important for us, we admire her, we care for her and, in a way, we grow up with her. Having Céline for role model in our teenage years is the best choice we can make because she is a wonderful person and a great influence.

 

And I think we must be proud of her. People who don't like her are missing a great opportunity to apreciate a great living legend, a woman of a rare talent, not just some blond barbie half naked in a video or some mad rapper mad at the world.

I am not much older than Celine and do not consider myself to be old or feel old.

There is nothing to be ashamed of having a role model at Céline's age. She is quite youthful in age and in spirit. Hopefully everyone in their teens will be in their 30's in time and realize a number is just that; it's how you feel and act that is more important.

 

I don't mean to sound insensitive,but are these truly your friends if they tease and tell you to find someone more suitable? Your choice is quite mature considering many so-called role models have unsavory lives filled with drugs and other problems.

I'm 17 and can't remember not being a Celine fan. I basically grew up with Celine everywhere - it was the 90's - so liking Celine is just like breathing to me. All my friends take my obsession with Celine with everything else about me, because she is a huge part of who i am.

I'm 17 now, I am a big fan from 2002 so I was 11 then but to be honest I quite well remember that I loved MHWGO and because of the song I managed to go on Titanic (even though I was too young) and later I recall that TTWII was also one of my favourites and I watched ATW CBS Special on tv in the 90s... Haha when I bought ANDHC I didn't realise that it's the same performer of these 3 songs! but later buying more and more Celine's things I realised that:P

I'm 16 now and before I discovered Celine last year, I loved Reba McEntire - so I know ridicule. I get it a little worse now for Celine since now apparently country is becoming "cool" but whatever. It still sucks getting the WTF looks and normally I don't like telling people that I love her, teenagers are so rude and terrible if you're the slightest bit different from the teenage stereotype. My close friends know I love her and I get (lovingly) made fun of for it and I'll usually tell people if they ask, but I don't go around shouting it out.

I became a fan during the "Falling Into You" era back in 1996 when I was 10. That was a good time to become a fan because her music was everywhere and she had singles played up the wazoo. I can remember them playing "It's All Coming Back To Me Now" and "Because You Loved Me" at Jr. High dances. Everyone had her "Falling Into You" and "Let's Talk About Love" albums.

 

Now I'm 23, old and gray. Even more of a fan. People joke with me, of course, because of my obsession to perfect my collection and that I went all the way to Montréal to see her, and just for her. But they do understand what a force she is as an artist.

You are also like me too because most of my friends in the class they are "Korea Fever". They like singers, bands, movie stars, or everything from South Korea. It's only me in the class who like to listen the western music. They didn't know about Celine but they knew a song "My heart will go on". When they asked me about how old Celine was and I said this years 40. They told me she very old.

I fell in love with Celine's voice when I was 10. It was in late 1997 and of course thanks to MHWGO. Almost 12 years later, I'm still amazed by this incredible singer! You know, sometimes I feel that people around me make fun of me when I say "I listen to Celine Dion". For them, and in particular in France she's considered as a has been. Most people know her for her old hits like PQTME, TPOL or MHWGO. Some of them will be able to remember Sous le vent, but that's all! And as a result, young people who are less than 15 years old nowadays almost don't know WHO is Celine Dion! It's a big problem for her, and in my opinion (that's not the first time I say that), it's because of Vegas which totally killed her as a star in the 2000's! But it's true that in a way Taking chances helped some young people to discover Celine, and that's why I think she should continue in the way she began with this album!

I became a fan in '97 because of MHWGO, but honestly, it was the song. I had no idea who she was, but I remember her being so beautiful and being amazed seeing her on tv. I was only around 6 or 7. I still remember, to this day, my aunt had the Titanic soundtrack, and it said "My Heart Will Go On performed by Celine Dion" so me and my sister would get wooden spoons and turn it on, and we'd fight, and say "IM CELINE DION WHO SINGS TITANIC!" haha and we'd fight, she said I can have MHWGO for my funeral and she gets it for her wedding, LOL! haha crazy. That seems like a lifetime ago.

 

Anyway, my momma got me All The Way... A Decade of Songs for Christmas 2000, and I have been addicted since. I, too, watched the CBS special and was stunned. My jaw was on the floor, just the noises that came from this womans mouth xD I remember being so sad cause she went on her break right when I became a huge fan.

 

Then, I next remembered waiting for an entire week to watch her interview with Barbara Walters interview. I remember, GET READY FOR TMI

I had to go to the bathroom, and I was worried I'd miss it, so I took the tiny tv into the bathroom with me, lol! xD I must've been around 10 or 11. Then, I remember watching all her promotion for ANDHC. Her performance on Rosie was like the pinical of my existence for months, because I didn't know the lyrics, but i'd try to sing as loudly as I could to her new song that I loved so dearly xD

 

Anyway, that's my beginnings. I am ridiculed a small amount by my mom these days, because she thinks Celine is stuck up :rolls eyes: of course, I defend Celine with my life, hahaha! My mom likes Celines music, just "not her attitude" pffft. Funny thing, I was listening to Taking Chances, and she was singing along to like, the whole cd, and she was like "Who is this?" and I'm all "Celine" and she was like "No way, this isn't" She was shocked, and I grovled in it. haha! Anyway, she teases me, mostly because I don't hide my obsessiveness around her. xD

My brother used to tease and pick on me, because we had to share a room, and I owned the radio, and ANDHC was constantly playing. I remember one time he took it out and threw it, and it landed behind the dresser, and was all sorts of f-ed up, and so my mom made him by a new one for me, hahaha!

 

So, all in all, I think i'v done a good job. I was the ONLY complete Celine fan in my family, and so far I have made two of my sisters fans, and my sister in law has become a fan. My brother doesn't mind her, and my mom is even a fan now.

 

Oh, and I am 17.

I became a fan since Think Twice was a no1 hit in Holland. It was in 1995. I was 15 then. My father bought TCOML-album and we played it much at home after my mother died. It gave a lot of strenght. I fell in love with Céline when I was 14, in 1996/1997. She released her Falling Into You album and when I first heard All By Myself I got crazy... She was just fantastic! I was amazed by her voice and talent. Since then I'm her devoted fan. I'm now 26 and yes, I've heard a lot of things because I was her fan. Because she is old, because I'm a guy, because her songs are too depressive, because she is not pretty, because...

But I didn't care. And I ketp listening to her and learning to be a better person with her. She is a great human being and a perfect artist. She is definitely THE BEST SINGER IN HISTORY!
