Scramasboy Posted July 10, 2010 at 10:40 PM Posted July 10, 2010 at 10:40 PM Soundscan era or all time? They say Madonna sold more because they guestimate what she has sold before the soundscan era [when they actually kept track of cd sales]. Starting at 1990 onwayrds Celine has sold more. I just added up her record sales from all of her albums, including live and compilation and she's around 206 million worldwide, from 1983 to 2010 and from 1983 to 1990 it's a guessed figure [what they say she sold] of around 80 million albums sold. [thats for Madonna] Celine has sold 181 million albums, including live albums, in the soundscan era, which is more than Madonna has in the soundscan era. Also, if you say 'how many records', thats when you add singles sales, dvd sales, etc. IDK how many singles Celine sold, I heard it was around 50 or 60 million, Madonna, Im sure, has sold a nice amount of singles. Anyway blah blah. Madonna has sold more, but 80 million are more/less unnofficial, if I have my facts right- which I believe I do. All sales info are according to wikipedia, which is generally right on that fact. 127 million are official for Madonna and 181 are official for Celine, not including the Titanic soundtrack. Whitney includes Bodygaurd, Madonna includes Evita and two others, we should include Titanic, we all know My Heart Will Go On was the track that sold that cd! Teehehehe! xD Anyway, who's sold more, we will never really know. That unnofficial 80 million could really be 60 million but it could also be 90 million, so who knows for sure, and idk Madges single sales either so boo-tits Im still calling Celine the biggest selling and baddest biatch of all time cause thats what she is. fan2celinedion Posted July 10, 2010 at 10:46 PM Posted July 10, 2010 at 10:46 PM Now, everytime, Celine is not number one; on this forum, you have to do a fuss about it. Grow Up... you didn't understand not one word of what i said did you? Quote
pat200 Posted July 10, 2010 at 11:36 PM Posted July 10, 2010 at 11:36 PM there is nothing unofficial about Madonna's numbers. By the way, Celine sold a max of 45 million singles compared to madonna's 90 million. We all hate to admit it but it is a fact, numbers don't lie (Record companies do however). I am pretty sure sony considers titanic as a celine album because that is the only logical explanation for her 200 million figure and lol for wikipedia beign right. Wiki can be changed by anyone really. i could go there and post that celine sold 300 million albums. In any way, i'd rather settle for second best selling female artist of all time having done it with hard work and class, not with provoking and showing my titties and something else Quote
Black Kitten Posted July 11, 2010 at 12:00 AM Posted July 11, 2010 at 12:00 AM i won't be surprised if Madonna is indeed the highest selling female artist of all-time. love her or hate her, she's HUGE. i'm ok about Celine being the #2. Madonna was already a big name worldwide when Celine (and Mariah) made it big in the English music market. at least we can now put the "Mariah Carey- The Biggest Selling Female Artist of all-time" thing to rest. And Madonnas tallied correctly for what people say as well, so what I said and whats on wikipedia is actually true. [this time] And They say "Celine Dion has sold over 200 million records worldwide" is true without the Titanic track sales. 185 million albums [including her first french language cd's before 1990] + 50 million singles + 5 million vhs/dvd/tape[are tapes included?] = over 230 million records sold worldwide. I wish I knew an actual real amount for Celine [and Madonna's] total single sales, would be cool to look! And the 80 million is a guesstimate, it is not an exact amount, it's an educated guess, theres no way it could be an exact amount because they didn't record cd sales before then. That may just be for America though. And when they say Celine has sold 215 million albums, thats when they are adding Titanic, haha! Davey84 Posted July 11, 2010 at 09:05 AM Posted July 11, 2010 at 09:05 AM Madonna is a single seller, Céline is an album seller, that's always been the case! Madonna might be in the business longer than Céline at this moment, I can see Céline selling a new album in 20 years time... Madonna however... dj4celine Posted July 11, 2010 at 09:29 AM Posted July 11, 2010 at 09:29 AM In 20 years time, I can see a complete shift from physical sales to digital sales and streaming revenues. So Davey, in the digital age, Madge has the upper hand when compared to Celine, but nothing in comparison to the likes of GaGa and the other bulk of artists who are "hot" in the cyber arena. Quote
Davey84 Posted July 11, 2010 at 09:40 AM Posted July 11, 2010 at 09:40 AM yeah, but will Madonna still be as hot as madonna is today? I predict that the actual music will become even cheaper than it is today, but that concert tickets and merchandise (where the real money is made) will become more expensive... also, Lady Gaga etc are new names, who still need to establish themselves! Now she's a hype, but her second album isn't even out yet! I wish her all the best, but she still needs to proove herself! (Alanis Morissette is the one with the biggest selling debut album of all times, but now she's not that famous anymore!) dj4celine Posted July 11, 2010 at 10:21 AM Posted July 11, 2010 at 10:21 AM That's the thing, no one can predict who will be there in the music industry or not. And my reply to your post was about sales, where Madge still holds the lead ahead of Celine. As for GaGa, we'll have to wait and watch. But I have a good feeling about her cos she seems to be committed to what she's doing. She has enough hype and rumours going on around her to keep her in the "hot" list for quite sometime. Just like how Beyonce has been hot for all these years. These people know how to keep the young audience in their grasp and create enough controversy to keep them relevant for quite sometime. But nothing is for sure. You are very right about concert ticket sales and merchandise. Celine seems to be in a very comfortable place in that region. But when this area generates enough revenue for the artist, the fans aren't getting a fair deal in my opinion. These artists when they charge high prices tickets, a lot of fans are left amiss as they either cannot afford to attend these concerts or are left thinking why bother when they are getting the music for cheap. Then the second point arises about the recorded music. The quality goes down drastically as the artists aren't getting high revenue from them and songwriters and composers don't even bother to write quality stuff as they aren't getting paid well. But these are just my thoughts. Heck, we don't even know if the earth will survive 2012 or not Quote

But seriously, Madonna is dwindling down in in hand cd sales but so is everyone just at different rates. Taking Chances actually was a strong seller for someone who wasn't so relevant for quite a few years and I'll bet money her next cd will sell around that same amounts and I have no doubt in my mind Celine WILL BE the best selling female artist if she isn't already [i dispute! Teheheh I'll use every advantage, even if it's claiming Titanic cd or biatching about soundscan sales! hahaha! Too many times have I said she was number 1 to come back down to number 2! Bahahaha I should meantion that I know logically she is probably number 2 and its no real issue, she's done a ton in a relivively short amount of time ] Because Celine is only 20 million CD's behind Madge, and in the past 5 years alone Celine has sold 7.5 million albums. About Lady Gaga, I like her but she makes me upset because to be Lady Gaga she had to be this crazy act to get any publicity and recognition though I suppose I can't blame her, you do what you have to. She isn't this crazy biatch, she's a cute jewish girl from New York who couldn't make it big without the image, which is one thing I fricken ADORE about Celine, that she is so goddamned successful, really has had the career of a lifetime, one that anyone could and should be jealous of, and she's done it with talent, and smarts not with selling a book of sex, singling about her vagina, or sex, or being outragous. I love Cher. Cher is amazing, but Cher is also kind of like that but I feel Cher is more authentic than Lady Gaga. Anyway I just wanted to shove my 2 cents in there, I wish her all the best, but Lady Gaga wont have the same appeal she has now when she is in her 30's hopefully she can be a chameleon like Madonna and be successful throughout time! I can respect all the divas and their success, though I love talking smack about a certain one or two, teehehehe! I read (on wiki, yes I know ) that the first album sold around 17 million copies (kinda doubt that) but are these numbers also added to all album sales from respectively Celine Dion, Shania Twain, Gloria Estefan, Mariah Carey and Aretha Franklin?? Céline should have a little advance on those sales, cos she also did 2002, which wasn't way as succesfull though...but both Céline as Mariah has these numbers as an advantage over Madonna... Yes, it goes Madonna then Celine, but Madonna is 208 million and Celine is 186 million [i think thats what I said earlier or its right by there], each from their start til today. Mariah has sold *goes and checks* from 1990 to date she has sold 159.5 million albums, according to wiki, again could be off. but according to her people she has sold either 165 or 175 million records [singles, dvd and cds combined] in 2006 or 2007. Whichever year the Adventures of Mimi world tour dvd came out.And yes, this is really old, and I feel bad for participating in it, but Im not trying to say one is better than the other, I can respecfully talk about all 3 in realistic terms even though I definantly favor our chicka!
