this is definitely not mariah's best. if you want to see mariah carey at her very best, the DAYDREAM era is the one for you. her looks? so sexy, yet decent. the voice? hands down! her image? a sexy girl-next-door. i really love that era. everything about her during that time is amazing. after daydream, everything's gone downhill. but the formula of My All is now overused.

listen to I Only Wanted & After Tonight.. i love these songs though.

check out this one. this is mariah carey at her 100% best, and this is when i fell in love with her. her voice has changed in this video, but absolutely better than her voice in 1990! this is the mariah i will love until the end. i miss this mariah...

lol I know daydream and music box and all that and it's all great, I just prefer butterfly era (these days) because she's more edgy yet still not overboard

I think her best voice condition was in 1990-1992 cause it was strong and powerful. During the Daydream era it became more airy but still brilliant. She has not a bad performance during this period 1990-1997. Edited March 23, 2008 at 08:47 AM by Nikosn17

true in terms of range but ive always preferred celine's tone. celine's voice is pure and crystal clear, angelic like also very sweet sounding. mariah's has always been more of the soulful/r&b type (even back in the beginning) which is great but I prefer celine's pure style

even mariah at her peak - listening to her singing without any high notes or belting would be boring after awhile. celine's pure and gentle voice sounds beautiful to me even when she's not belting

sad to say, there is. at Oprah 1997 when she sang hero. that's the WORST performance of that song EVER. she struggled a lot even on the low notes.

madonna has already 3 topics here and nobody's complaining... nobody commented that we should go to madonna's forum instead of talking about her here in the 'off topic' section in a celine dion forum.

seems like most celine fans is still cursing mariah. what's going on? i mean what's wrong with mariah? why hate her just because we are a celine fan? i don't get it. madonna has 3 topics here and it's still "ok"? :glare:

well Mariah has 35 topics here... Madonna 25... I don't mind if someone makes a topic about a new album but topics like mariah at her best, ur top 10, new commercial for perfume... etc etc belong to a mariah forum... not a céline forum! It's not about hating her... but Lara has one topic... Cher too.. why doesn't she

also... I think those recent Madonna topics could have put in one :whistling:

and btw I don't hate her cos I am a Céline fan, I just can't stand her way of singing and I don't like her music

i was about to post that video when i first replied. but i still think mariah's best is 1995-1996. i hate her big hair on emotions era though she's cute then. everytime i watch her madison concert in 1996, i really find myself missing her old style.

and oh btw, i just watched her latest dvd (w/c i think s**ks big time! sorry.. :down: ), i saw David Foster's name as the dvd editor. is he the same David who collaborated with celine back then?

hmm that's an interesting question. I don't know another David Foster so it might be him. The Madison Square Garden concert was in 1995. yes i watched that concert and i agree, that's her best concert. maybe much better than the madison concert. her rendition of I Don't Wanna Cry was absolutely AMAZING! omg i miss her!!!

I'm not really a Mariah fan but I am warming to her. I just watched the first vid that was posted in this thread and she does look pretty good.

I also recently discovered My All from the Divas 1998 CD and I really like it... even if it took a while to grow on me.

There is no doubt that her range is phenomonal and she does have a powerful voice but I don't really like her style. Her dialogue with the audience seems very insincere... she just strikes me as somebody who loves her own status and revels in her fame without truly appreciating the people who put her where she is. I know that's a completely unreasonable comment to make as I have never met the woman and have watched very few performances... but it's just a feeling I get.

As far as I can tell, Celine has an impressive range too but her voice is crystal clear, she is pitch perfect and she can belt out the high notes if required. As a Celine fan I'm bound to be biased but I am beginning to appreciate Mariah as an artist in her own right, rather than a 'threat' to Celine and I can honestly say Celne's talent still strkes me as more impressive. Call The Man, Power Of Love, I Love You Goodbye, Tell Him... al crystal clear, earth moving vocal performances. And as for Le Blues Du Businessman live... Words cannot describe...

Just because Celine avoids the whistle notes doesn't mean she CAN'T hit them. She is Celine Dion, for goodness sake. To borrow her words, there's no limit for her and there will never be.

Go ahead, Celine, fulfill your dream of playing Maria Callas. Don't forget to hit sky-high opera notes in your movie. Maybe then, those who are claiming that Mariah has a wider range will be silenced. FOREVER.

i am now playing mariah's debut cd right now. this has to be one of the best debut albums ever (together with carrie underwood's some hearts, whitney houston's eponymous, janet jackson's breakthrough control & celine's unison). her voice is strong no doubt about it, but i can listen to celine's voice anyday. mariah can't perform the highest note of her chest voice 'live', while celine can still deliver her's effortlessly. mariah's debut is a lot better than unison (ok ok hate me!), but celine is still better all in all.
