Wow, i'm shock! Only 160k. Her last two albums started with over 400k and charmbracelet started with 200k. That's not very good. I think she's becoming like Celine, not caring much anymore about their sales and how commercial they are.

I don't think she's like Celine at all in that sense, that's not Mariah. She still cares about sales and charts, she is just very absorbed in her marriage.

I seriously don't get it. After all the drama that E=MC2 was in terms of her abandoning the project because of her marriage etc... why would she release an album the next year if she won't promote it properly. At least E=MC2 had great promotion prior to its release and during the first week... with MOAIA we don't even have that.

Exactly my point, she found a new love in her life which makes her happy so I think she feels that she doesn't need to be satisfied anymore with album sales or singles reaching no1. The same thing happened to Celine when she got RC.

this is actually the 1st time i feel proud of Celine's 215,000 opening week sales of Taking Chances.

 

no but seriously, Memoirs is missing something. Janet Jackson's Discipline debuted at #1 last year with JUST 180,000 copies and hasn't reached the gold status since then.

 

is it the lack of promotion this week? is it because she guested on Oprah way too early to promote the album? or is it because the lead single failed to top the Billboard Hot 100? honestly, i expected the album to sell at least 300,000 copies. but 160,000? that's ABSOLUTELY low for someone like Mariah. this is crazy!

Keep your eyes wide open cuz retail insiders are saying that she might not even meet the HDD prediction (160k)!

 

Her sales are reportedly slowing down while Barbra is upping her sales pace to threaten for the #2 spot.

 

Paramore is tied to the Twilight hype obviously.

 

Now, somebody tell those crazy lambs to control themselves. Everywhere I've been, they're in panic mode. Anything can still happen bet. now and next Tues.

I think this album will have difficulty reaching gold status in the states. The album is so good though. I really don't understand why people are not buying the album.

Paramore was doing alright before Twilight, singles off of their first album even did better than the current one, including Decode. I don't think Twilight did all THAT much for them really. I'm sure it helped some but, not really a substantial amount.

 

And yes 160k is not bad these days. People have been coming in at #1 with less than that.

Agreed, Paramore is a really big band right now, especially for it's genre. Personally, I couldn't care less for Paramore, but almost everyone I know loves them, and I'm sure the Twilight stuff helped them a bit. 160K isn't too bad.

Btw Mariah did horrible on The Today Show... I can't believe she sounds like this after the great performances she did in Vegas and @ Oprah. She sang Obsessed, I Want To Know What Love Is, Make It Happen and HATEU. She was wearing a jacket a la Tokyo Dome 1996 and the extensions on her hair are back very CB era.

 

Obsessed and IWTKWLI were a complete and total mess with those background tracks...

 

Make It Happen was row but good. Not very good but I liked it. I haven't heard HATEU yet.

 

Now we're waiting for The View.

Very very disappointing...

 

I can't understand how her voice can be great one day and then the next day she sounds horrible.

 

I just watched The View and she did fantastic but it was taped on Monday. Def the best performance of IWTKWLI. I'll post the link later.
