I agree with you Dhena! "Miss You" is such a great song! Would have been one of the best songs on Charmbracelet (along with Through the rain and Bringin' on the heartbreak) if it had been added to the international edition.

 

"Got a thing for you" is a song I hardly ever play. It's one of Mariah's worst songs ever (in my opinion).

 

And I'm with you that "Butterfly" is not her best album. I can name at least five other Mariah albums which are better.

i thought i was alone in this. too much whispering kills Butterfly. i mean it's a nice album for sure, but i would never understand what she's singing without the album booklet on my hands. (especially The Roof, 4th of July, Breakdown, Babydoll and Close My Eyes).

The Roof and Breakdown are masterpeaces and def one of her best works ever, musically and lyricly and everything and her most personal and honest songs ever. There is no need every song to be belted out to be a good song. Not to talk about that there are great vocals on Butterfly (Outside, The Beautiful Ones, Fly Away, Butterfly, Whenever You Call). Imo she'll never top this album.

I agree Butterfly is full of beauty ... Close My Eyes, The Roof, My All, Honey, Butterfly, Fly Away, Outside and The Beautiful Ones are some of her greatest songs of all

Butterfly defenitly has some great songs:

The big ballads: My All, Butterfly and Whenever You Call

But I also really like the "softer" ballads: Fourth Of July and Close My Eyes.

But my favorite song on the album has to be: The Roof.

 

Dhena, my husband (who is English) is with you in the hard-to-understand-what-is-she-singing bit you mentioned. When I first bought the album he asked me why she was singing "For the children". I told him she was singing "Fourth of July"...

 

But the reason I don't like this album as much as "Mariah Carey", "Emotions", "Music Box", "Daydream", "Rainbow" and "E=MC²" is for the reason, that "Butterfly" has some songs which I don't like at all:

Babydoll, Breakdown, The Beautiful Ones... (awful!)

and two so-so songs: Honey, Outside

 

Usually Mariah has hardly any "awful" song on an album in my opinion.
