Wow, the last time I was here, this post was 3 pages and now it's 28...

From just reading a few pages it appears like this special will hurt Celine more than it will help her.

If any CBS executives are reading this: PLEASE CANCEL THE CBS SPECIAL.

They'd be better off playing the DVD or something. Celine is a remarkable singer but she's such a perfectionist (which is why she probably chose to lip those songs). It's such a shame that she sings so amazingly during untelevised performances but can't kick it up a notch when she's in front of a camera. Based on the descriptions of those who attended, this sounds like a disaster. I'd rather have no special than see Celine get ridiculed for this.

How i hate this big logo on it.Its soo big :ermm:

But OK.

Thanks Thomas :thumbsup2:

They're not big by the standard of other sites, also not in annoying place, and even not very hard to crop. Of course if the copycats crop the logos out and claim the photos are from them, place logo in the middle would be the only choice.

Yeah the watermark is a tad annoying. We already have watermarks at the beginning, all through, and at the end of our videos. Must we go the same route with our pictures? Thx anyway Thomas for all that you do! You give this forum all of its rare HQ pics and we appreciate it!

Those are not our pictures. Thomas paid for the pics.

If there's anything that can salvage her frequent lipping lately (nothing can really, lets face it) it's the fact that she looks like a billion dollars! That RDMH dress is seriously freaking sexy! She's looking absolutely on fire! Anyone can look at her and think she's ugly from those pics needs to have their vision checked! Her legs, her hair, her outfits have all been just mind blowing!

Howdy, howdy, everybody!

I returned home on Sunday afternoon from going to the taping with my friends Amiee, Melanie, and Sara. I'm going to be posting a fairly lenghty report so if you don't feel like reading it all just know that I had a great time and thought Celine did great, lipping or not. (Don't bother wondering if I'm going to touch on that issue, it's already been addressed from both sides of the spectrum a billion times over in this thread.)

So here it goes...

I woke up Saturday morning fairly early (6:15AM to be exact). I decided to take an early airport shuttle from my city, Santa Rosa, to Oakland International Airport (about an hour and a half) due to the rainy weather the Bay Area had earlier that week. The weather had been so bad that many of the bridges had to be closed due to big trucks overturning due to high winds. Some motorists were stranded for up to five hours just waiting for the bridges to reopen!

Anyway, I got to the airport roughly 2-3 hours before my flight left at around 12:30PM. My flight into Burbank was a fairly easy-going one, although there was some rough patches along the way. I arrived into Bob Hope Airport at round 1:30PM. My friend Amiee showed up around 1:45 and picked me up. We headed on out to The Wiltern and had to stop for gas - and of course Starbucks! Mmmm, I do love those caramel frappacinos! (Yes, I know I spelled that wrong! LOL) Afterwards we continued on our way and I got a phone call from Sara. She informed me about how the seating was arranged and that what TeamCeline meant by "open seating" was that there was a certain section set aside for TeamCeline members, but to get the best TeamCeline seat possible to get to the venue early. I guess some fans had arrived as early as 9:30AM?! Insanity! Once Amiee and I found this information out (THANK YOU SARA!) we didn't feel as stressed. So, we took our time and finally arrived at around 3:00-3:30. We parked and walked over to the entrance. We got our tickets (Lodge - Row CC - Seats 12 & 14). Afterwards we went to lunch at Sizzler. We got the salad bar. (How healthy - I know.)

A little after we left Sizzler we decided to head to The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf to meet up with Sara and Melanie. They arrived shortly after we did. We talked about Celine, our fandoms, and whatnot. Sara brought pictures for Celine to autograph and Melanie brought the European CD-single for "Falling Into You." (I had brought the Japanese single for "Unison.")

Later they left and Amiee and I went back to her car to put some things away while we waited for one of her friends to show up at Coffee Bean. We arrived back at Coffee Bean a few minutes later and met up with her. She was waiting to hear from someone she was dating that got invited to the taping. (Hint: He was the guy who asked Celine the first question.) (I'm not revealing names out of privacy and respect for the involved.)

After a few Amiee's friend, Amiee, and I got in line to go into The Wiltern. As we got closer to the doors a bunch of camera guys came up and asked us to sing a Celine song for the camera! LOL My brain went blank. Ha! Seeing as Amiee isn't a HUGE Celine fan as the rest of us the only song I knew she knew most of the words to was "A New Day Has Come." We decided to sing that. I was so incredibly flat and out of tune, but I had fun - which is all that really matters.

Once we entered the venue we were both blown away by how beautiful and pretty it is inside. The Wiltern has one of the classically old theatre type vibes to it. It's a shame more aren't built in the same style. There was so much detail put into every inch of that place. Darn pretty!

Seeing as how mostly everybody else has mentioned how the taping went I won't bore people with the repetitive details. What I will touch on is that she looked absolutely smashing. My favorite outfit was the black dress with the little bit of sparkly bling on the side.

Throughout the taping I kept yelling out random things to her such as, "Hot Mamma!," "Get down with your bad self!," etc. However, it wasn't until I shouted out, "Je t'aime, Céline!" that she finally took notice - as someone mentioned earlier about twenty thousand pages backs. LOL

After the taping concluded we left the venue and hung around with Sara and Melanie in the front of the theatre. We ended up meeting up with Yves (keyboard) and Barnev (backup singer). I shook Barnev's hand and told him what a great night I had. He thanked me and even asked me, "You still sketchin'?" That was quite a shock! I didn't even imagine he would remember all the concepts I had created for A New Day.... Anyway, I said, "Sure am!" and we continued to talk.

After all was said and done Melanie and Sara went on their way while Amiee and I went ours. We ended up going out to Roscoe's Chicken & Waffles with her friend and her boyfriend and his dad. Let me just say that this celebrity is a very nice person. He can be funny at times, but he was a great guy. He even took a picture with our waitress when she asked. He's a very down-to-earth type of guy. The fame hasn't gotten to him.

At around 1:00A we said our goodbye's and headed out. I stayed at my friend, Andre's, that night and left Burbank the next day at around 12:30P.

I'm very thankful for TeamCeline having given me the chance to go to this special event. If I ever do reconsider renewing my now defunct membership I will definately remember what they did for me that night!

Je t'aime, Céline!

Thank you for the HQ photos. I couldn't care less if they were watermarked or not. You DON'T have to share, but you do! So thanks, and I hope the naysayers that aren't thanking you, but instead complaining about some watermark don't stop you or anyone else from sharing in the future. Edited by EdwinDeux

Do you think those are her dancers on her tour?

I was wondering the same thing... I was hoping dancers from A New Day... would go on tour with her. We'll find out for sure soon, I suppose.

Thanks for the pics, they are amazing! And about the watermark: you are right to put it on. There are always people who will copy it and use it for their own site without mentioning where they got (read: stole) it from. And I don't mind at all, I am a fan of this forum as well, so I have no problems with it! Thanks! :thumbsup2:

I really hate to join the Live vs. Playback debate but some of the things I'm reading are quite upsetting. I'm probably not going to say anything that hasn't already been said but I would like to make a few points anyway.

We are all fans of Celine primarily because of her voice. So, of course, it is always slightly disappointing when she sings playback. But this is nothing new!!! Even in the nineties Celine was singing playback. With the exception of a handful of TOTP performances and Royal Variety etc, Celine often mimed when she appeared on UK TV. The CBS Special for These Are Special Times included many songs in Playback. Having said that, when Celine sang live she always blew us away. So we know she can sing. What I don't understand is why people are kicking up such a fuss about it now, at a time when credible singers are few and far between. How many other artists today perform live 100% of the time and how many can compete vocally with Celine. I would say none.

An Audience With... and CBS special (I'm guessing) were all or largely all performed in Playback. Both are promotional TV platforms... Is there maybe some kind of connection? Think about Oprah, Ellen, Today Show, etc etc etc... These were all live performances. They even outnumber or at least match the number of recent playback performances. So why are people being so critical?

As for A New Day... I didn't get to see the show live as it was cancelled when I got to Vegas  But I have seen the DVD and I am very impressed. Several songs are performed in playback but I was pleasantly surprised that there were not more. The important thing is that the majority of the show is still live and that is a rare thing today. I really don't want to make excuses for Celine. The fact is she is a singer with an amazing voice so in theory it is fair to assume she will sing live all the time. Celine has an amazing talent, great technique and control... but she still has one flaw... She is HUMAN! Imagine having to sing TPOL followed by IACBTMN then BYLM and TLYM night after night. Now imagine you have almost 5,000 people sat in the theatre waiting for you to perform. This is an ENORMOUS responsibility. Even die hard defenders of Celine must admit that she cannot be expected to hit all the incredible notes every SINGLE time. It is therefore more than understandable that she chooses playback sometimes. Of course, some people will be disappointed not to get the live performance but more would be disappointed if she failed to meet their expectations singing live. Let's just be thankful for the technology that gives the impression of a live performance.

Furthermore, Celine's voice has changed. She is almost 40. She recorded TPOL when she was 24/25. The album FIY when she was 27/28. Add to that the fact that she cares less about control and technique than she did 10-15 years ago. Back then she would go to extreme lengths to protect her voice, remain silent for days, avoid certain foods. As natural as her talent is, she reached vocal perfection only through intense training. Now she actually has a LIFE and wants to ENJOY it. Apart from natural changes to her voice, her more relaxed approach to discipline means she probably would struggle to recreate the sounds of TPOL and IACBTMN as they appear on their albums. It is perfectly natural. TPOL is one of my favourite songs and I long to see her perform it again. But I think I'd settle for 70% playback as it stands now, rather than put Celine under even more pressure than she already endures each time she appears on stage.

I don't buy into the idea that she has nothing to prove. When Celine says this she is NOT using it as an excuse to do a mediocre job, she is saying she doesn't need to prove to herself she can do it, does not need to impose severe discipline on herself. I think some fans use this to justify playback performances. The fact is she used playback even when she WAS trying to prove something. It's much more personal and spiritual than that. So, I agree, she has nothing to prove, but she is still a singer who is where she is today because of her voice. And fans understandably want to enjoy that voice for real. But, at the same time, fans need to acknowledge that Celine is still human (more so today than ever before) and she has made serious choices about her singing and her career. If that means her voice is less technically perfect then you can choose to respect that choice or not, but I think all this furor over playback is not only unnecessary, it is unfair.

My dream would be to see Celine sing TPOL, Le Blues Du Businessman and IACTMN and In Some Small Way 100% live during her tour. But can we really expect her to match the perfomance of Le Blues from 1995? I doubt it. And I would hate for her to try if it meant she would be compared and criticised. Of course some songs will be playback during the next tour but I will still be there to support her.

As for ticket prices: unfortunately the music industry is about making money. and unfortunatley Celine is an artist of high calibre who can charge high prices for tickets. I do not agree with it but I understand it. I'm just hugely thankful that she is not charging as much as Barbara Streisand did recently. Of course, if people boycotted the tour and refused to buy the tickets they might be forced to lower prices but nobody is going to do that! I just fear that the high prices are an indication that it will be her last tour for a looonngg time...

Well, I'm sure I had much more to say but this post s already far too long. I just get so heated reading all the Celine negativity. Whenever in doubt, I just watch these videos to remind myself how spectacular Celine is:
