"Man in motion" by John Parr from the movie "St Elmo's Fire" ? Although, I don't know if that was the theme. Edited by stevethefan

Yes that is the theme song from St Elmo's Fire - but the clue was for the the song lyrics that I had already given:

"Won't you come see about me, I'll be alone, dancin'"

and

"tell me your troubles and doubts"

I think I FINALLY know this!

"Don't you forget about me" by Simple Minds from "Sixteen Candles"?

Right song and right group - but - alas - wrong movie --- but the star of 16 Candles was in this other movie! ;)

Hmmmm.... I don't think I watched any of the brat packer movies or listened to any of the 80's pop music. I really zoned out of the culture that decade... it was quite inane.

Although I know a lot about 80's music, I'm not that great at 80's TV. For about four years, when I was at school back then, I watched very little TV and I did not miss it! I should go back to doing that NOW.

Yeah... the early 80's I was too busy with school and work. In the mid to late 80's, raising a kid, working, living in MN and we didn't have cable TV, as we lived too far out in the boonies.

(In old man's voice) "In my day...we didn't have these fancy schmancy cell phones. If we needed to make a call and we weren't at home we'd have to drive our '75 Chevy Nova's to the nearest 7-11 and put a dime (yes a DIME) in something called a PAYPHONE.

And if we needed to write a paper for a homework assignment we had to go to these building that housed these things called BOOKS which I know are foreign to you and we had to do our research there and then come home and write our DOUBLE-SPACED reports on this machine called a...well let me think now what was it called? Oh yeah a TYPEWRITER."

I'm trying to remember. I know the big names for sneakers then were Converes, Adidas, Puma...

I know I wore ones called PF Flyers.

Posted
I remember PF Flyers I think Ked put them out... I liked Converse cause they had the most rubber and lasted the longest!

Yeah it used to seem so exciting to get new sneakers back then. It usually seemed to be, for me at least, in the fall when school started.

Of course there were not so many choices nor such high prices....

Great thread

I remember:

TVs with antennas. Watching Neil Armstrong walking on the moon in 1969-memorable day!

Did anyone watch Zoom, The Archies or Flipper?

The first year of Saturday Night Live- Killer Bees and Samurai Bar Mitzvah sketches

6 Million Dollar Man with the sound effects, Super Woman...

My parents thought the Schwinn bike with the banana was unsafe so I rode the typical bicycle   The roller skates that needed a key :msn-tongue:

My room was filled with flower power stickers, ant-Vietnam war slogans , and Peter Max posters-I threw out all of them...found out a few years ago, many of his posters are worth quite a bit of money

I watched ZOOM all the time - I could never get the zoomy language thing they spoke worked out though....

"Come on and zoom, zoom, zooma, zoom"

Neither - we couldn't buy "name brand" - I had el cheapos from K-Mart!

I always wanted a pair of the Converse Chuck Taylors.

Now the kids wear them because they are cool and retro - back then, they were it!

actually back then they weren't even "named" they were just high tops and low tops
