Côté albums, Celine Dion s'empare sans surprise de la première place avec "D'elles" (Columbia), son nouvel album en français produit par Jean-Jacques Goldman. Disponible en trois éditions différentes, l'album s'est écoulé à plus de 55 000 exemplaires. Celine devance Mika, qui remonte d'une place avec "Life in Cartoon Motion" (Barclay), dont 19 000 exemplaires supplémentaires ont été vendus la semaine dernière.

yes, on ne change pas the double bus Céline had sold was in France at the time of the exit to make the promotion, while there Céline will come only in October, but while waiting there is not much promotion, I find the sales are not so badly for an album without promotion.

Neilsen SoundScan sales chart record for 2007 with over 72,000 copies sold of

D'elles across Canada. D'elles has secured the highest SoundScan entry of the

year surpassing first-week sales by any other artist. Overwhelming media and

consumer support has skyrocketed D'elles to the number 1 position on the sales

chart in Canada, France, Belgium and Switzerland. In Canada, the album has

been certified 2x Platinum and has already shipped half a million units

worldwide.

In Quebec, Celine dominates the Regional chart with D'elles claiming the

top spot and continues to break records with five of her previous albums

currently charting in SoundScan's Top 200. On May 21 2007, more than

1.5 million people tuned in to the TVA network for a 2-hour special about

the numbers prove one more time the power of promotion - celine could sell more than 100k in france if they only promoted the album there . it's great she is no 1 but 55k for france is bad - ONCP is a greatest hits album and it sold twice as much .

i fear next week we'll see a major decline in sales both in canada and france .

 

yeahh the special might do good for the album in france but it's too little too late and it's not really about the album+other than that we'll probably see zero promotion in canada and as for france - we'll have to wait til october and i'm not sure whether DELLES will still be relevant commercialy until then .

I wouldn't worry about that, especially not with the overexpensive ticket prices. The money will come to them any way.

For the album I hope it has some staying power.

You're wrong! The other french albums since 1996 (when SoundScan strated to work on Canadá) solds that on the first week on Canadá:

 

1998 S'il suffisait d'aimer #1: 27.200 albums

2003 1 fille & 4 types #1: 44.532 albums

2005 On ne change pas #2: 34.000 albums

2007 D'Elles #1: 72.000 albums

 

 

So this is her record for a french album!

Great News! Celine is #1! And for those of you saying that ONCP sold more copies in it's first week, first of all it was a greatist hits 2 disc album, second Celine was in France that week to promote the CD, and third album sales in general keep dropping year after year because more people are download songs, etc. Plus the France TV special will air in about 2 weeks which will boost sales of the CD in France if they drop at all over the next few weeks. So this is FANTASTIC news!

OMG can't believe she have sell more in Quebec, with only 6 millions people.. So the special really help a lot.. That's great..

So TF1 sucks, they should present the special the day the album comes out.. I hope it won't be too late for album sales on June 9th..
