My favourite ones so far are Et s'il n'en resait qu'une, La Diva, Femme Comme Chacune, Si j'etais quelqu'un and On s'est aime a cause! Shaun Posted June 1, 2007 at 08:49 PM Posted June 1, 2007 at 08:49 PM Ok here goes. I received the album on Wednesday and have listened to it all the way through a good few times now and can give my thoughts on each of the songs. Et s'il n'en restait qu'une (je serais celle-là)A great lead single and one on which Celine's voice soars. The musical arrangements are superb and all round this track is very very good. Hopefully we'll get to hear it live at some point as I can imagine it being a very dramatic performance. ImmensitéAlthough a good song I feel it's a poor choice as a single but perhaps that's to do with the awful video! The song just never goes anywhere. It's nice and pleasant to listen to but there's nothing groundbreaking here. A causeWithout a single doubt from me, this is the best song on the album. This is fresh, modern, catchy and Celine sounds AMAZING on it. This is the kind of song she needs to return with when the English album comes out. Despite Immensite being the 2nd single I really hope Sony push A Cause as the 3rd because this deserves to be a smash hit in the territories it's released. Amazing track! Je cherche l'ombreAny track following A Cause has a hard act to follow but this song does a good job. The flute(?) or whatever it is sounds lovely and the melody is very nice. Les paradisYawn. This should've been included on Miracle as it's enough to put me to sleep. Celine sounds good but that's the nicest thing I can say about the song. La divaNow don't get me wrong, the opera clips at the start and end of the song are very novel and work well but just one question...why? This song screams out Papillon to me with Celine clearly demonstrating her vocal talents throughout. A good song where Celine sounds fabulous! Femme comme chacuneI LOVE this song! The chorus is amazing and I keep singing it at the most random moments! LOL. I love the clear adlibing Celine is doing at the end of the song. Great track. Si j'étais quelqu'unYawn. Sorry but this is another one which I would have no problem skipping past every time. Boring. Je ne suis pas celleTypical trademark Celine. Starts out softly but her power comes through in the end. I love it. Le temps qui compteNice track although it doesn't really go anywhere. Lettre de George Sand à Alfred de MussetSorry I just don't get this. Maybe if I spoke French I would get the point behind this but it's all just a bit embarrassing to be honest. On s'est aimé à causeThe slow version of easily the best track on the album and it works very very well. Can't quite believe the same lyrics are used so differently in each of the songs but the melody here and everything about the song is superb! BerceuseYuck. What's this doing here? Another one for Miracle I think!! Overall verdict: a good album with a mixed bag of track types and the majority of the songs are very good, memorable and refreshing for Celine. However there are a few instantly forgettable tracks and some which are frankly out of place on the album. For what it's meant to be though the album is superb and this will be remembered in years to come as one of Celine's better albums. felixwhoals Posted June 3, 2007 at 09:54 AM Posted June 3, 2007 at 09:54 AM I have listened the album more than 30 times now. I guess more than that. Didn't really count. Out of 13 tracks, I lov 12 tracks only! Et s'il n'en restait qu'une (je serais celle-là) - 8/10This one is alright but bcuz I already heard this music since March so it's a bit boring now. Immensité - 9/10Slow and beautiful A cause - 10/10This is an amazing track I would say. Great combination of music and with Celine voice, she's the best. Je cherche l'ombre - 9/10Slow - love the flute music so much. Les paradis - 9/10I dunno why but I just love the way this music is being played. Especially the ending part of it. La diva - 8.5/10Love the opera song at the beginning.A bit bored in the middle somehow. I always skip to the end of this song. Femme comme chacune - 9.5/10Again, after the ending of La Diva, this song begins. It's really beautiful and I admit Celine has the best voice ever. Si j'étais quelqu'un - 8.5/10It's very slow but overall it's quite high beat at the chorus part. Love it. Je ne suis pas celle - 8/10I don't like the beginning and ending of this song, it makes the whole song bored. But somehow the chorus part is beautiful again! Le temps qui compte - 10/10My favourite on this album!!! Better than On s'est aime a cause!! Love the music and fast music from Celine. It's not too fast, but kinda easy to listen at and I've listened to it more than 50 times now. Lettre de George Sand à Alfred de Musset - 4/10I have no idea what this song means. Although to Celine, it's a good idea to convert a letter into a song. But I seriously have no idea what this song means. When i play on my player, I'll make sure i skip this track. I never listen the whole track yet On s'est aimé à cause - 9.5/10I thought they have different lyrics but it's exactly the same! It's nice to hear to this song after Le temps qui compte. Berceuse - 9/10It's nice to close up the album! Similar to Vole in D'eux and Fly in Falling Into You. Overall 9/10!! LVCeline Posted June 3, 2007 at 01:24 PM Posted June 3, 2007 at 01:24 PM I still have not lessened my opinion of the album, and am a little surprised at the lukewarm reception to La Diva! No problem though, I still think it's the second greatest song on the album, and am so grateful she recored such a masterpiece. As I said, the comparisons to Papillion are recognized, but this is a better song in every way, and the opera intro and outro make it unique and complete and very atmospheric for me. I have really come to enjoy Lettre de George Sand à Alfred de Musset; I'll admit it took me a good few listens, but it's a very nice song, and the emotion in her voice is incredible at the end. I would love a radio edit version though without the talk at the beginning. Berceuse also took a few listens and it's lyrics are about as simple as you can get, but I think the song is just gorgeous. It's very soft in the form of SSDA but even better if you ask me, although the lyrics are definitely not as deep. There isn't a song on the cd that I skip at this point. It's a very cohesive album for me, and there's a little bit of everything but it doesn't have a scattered feel though. Femme Comme Chacune has turned out to be a very fun song! I'm loving it! Quote
Davey84 Posted June 3, 2007 at 09:36 PM Posted June 3, 2007 at 09:36 PM Les paradisYawn. This should've been included on Miracle as it's enough to put me to sleep. Celine sounds good but that's the nicest thing I can say about the song. I think this musicly isn't arzels strongest track ever... I love the piano in the song, but you don't hear it... like 1.56 the pianopart is great, but it doesn't come forward...he should have given the piano more sound! I think this is one of those songs that really comes to life live! I don't know why but I just don't feel like listening to that song at all. I think D'elles is a good album but I wouldn't say it's amazing. I think D'eux will always be my favourite French album! I'm not going to do a song-by-song review, instead I'm just going to list my favorites. Here they are: - Et s'il n'en restait qu'une- A cause & On s'est aime a cause- Les paradis- La diva- Femme comme chacune- Le temps qui compte- Berceuse Yeah, I know, at that rate I should just list the whole dang album. HA! Anyway, I LOVE IT! I was picturing some cool choreography and effects that could go on during "La diva" for the world tour. There could be some awesome opera scenes being shown on video screens around the stage as some fog (water based of course - we don't want another World Music Awards incident happening again) coming up from the center of the stage with lights shining through. Celine would then raise to the stage and her shadow would be cast. She would be wearing a very flowy (sp?), very complex gown/dress. And then of course she would begin to sing and take command of the stage. ...Joe... Quote

stevo Posted June 11, 2007 at 10:28 PM Author Posted June 11, 2007 at 10:28 PM Hello all! I got the cd finally~! I bought the digipack from HMV in Manchester for £16.95. They didn't have the Collectors Pack instore so I think I'll get it online. I love the digipack tho! It's so well designed and it's just so lovely to look at and it feels all velvety! lol! The red CD was a nice surprise- so very cool. A big BIG thumbs down for the absence of English subtitles on the DVD- I just don't understand it- millions of her fans are English speaking and they surely know they'll buy this and want them to buy it- it's easy to do...oh well. That's my ONLY complaint about the whole thing. The cd itself- well. A M A Z I N G. The only ones I'm not so keen on and occasionally skip are La diva, Berceuse and La Lettre. It's only because of the music- I obviously don't understand much of the lyrics so if they're lyrically amazing I'm sorry for that but they don't float my boat in the same way AC, FCC or even LP do. I love love love Le Temps... such a powerful Celine performance. This album is a true Celine gem.HOORAY!!!! Quote

Tal Posted June 12, 2007 at 04:20 PM Posted June 12, 2007 at 04:20 PM Et S'il N'en Restait Qu'une - 9/10Love this song! I love how assertive she sounds, and the choir in the background. Its got so much drive and power. It was definietly unexpected, which made it even better for me. I also really enjoy her unapologetic attitude for falling for every love cliche that exists because she's been getting sh!t for that forever. So here's her 'screw you' song to all the haters Immensité - 9/10I love this song as well. The build of the violins is stunning and lyrics are really beautiful. A Cause - 8.5/10I really like this song, and the reason I gave it an 8.5 is not because theres anything bad about it....its because it didn't turn out as great as it could have. I love the verses....the build up, the determination in her voice, etc. But after the refrain, it falls flat. It goes the TLDH route where it just becomes repetative. There's no real climax, musically speaking. And is that random back-up singer's "ahhh" really necessary? Regardless, its still fun and she sounds excellent. Je Cherche L'ombre - 9/10Another beautiful song, but I find it hard to listen to. Its very personal and emotional and I can't just listen to it casually. But anyways, I think it was really well done, lyrically, musically and vocally. Les Paradis - 7.5/10This one's not bad either, but its nothing extraordinary. It sounds a bit like a 1F4T reject song. La Diva - 8/10I know she's screaming here, but its nice to know she still can, lol. The opera parts are really beautiful and they are my favorite parts of the song. Which is suprising because I don't care for opera. I feel like if the choruses built up rather then having them be vocally huge from the beginning, would have given the song more variety and color. Because now its like quiet-scream-quiet-scream-quite-scream, it gets a bit monotonous. A little overkill for me, but like I said - its nice to know she can still wail like that Femme Comme Chacune - 9.5/10LOVE IT!! Its probably my 2nd favorite song on the album. I dont have a clue what she's saying, but its fun as hell and she sounds fantastic. I love the intro to the song and how that sound continues softly in the background for the rest of the song. Si J'étais Quelqu'un - 8/10I like this one. It reminds be a bit of Your Light, in the way the chorus kind of explodes out of nowhere. She does get a bit shrill though, but I still like it. Je Ne Suis Pas Celle - 7/10Its a little boring for me. I'm not really keen on those long head voice 'ceeeelle' notes. I prefer the versus to the choruses...they're much more musically interesting. Its not a song I would skip, but I definitely don't listen to it intentionally. Le Temps Qui Compte - 8.5/10I didn't like this one at first, and I always confused it with Les Pardis...they both sounded like 1F4T reject songs. While I still don't care that much for LP, LTQC definitely grew on me. She sounds a bit angry or resentful when she sings this one and I like that. Lettre de George Sand à Alfred de Musset - ?/10I dont even know what to score this one. I just don't like it at all. And I tried really hard (as Jeroen knows, lol) and it just bores me to death! I think the talking part is ridiculous and the music for the singing part is completely blah for me. I read the translation but still, I'm not moved by the song at all. On S'est Aimé A Cause - 100,000,000,000,000,000,000/10   This is her best song ever! Period!! I just love this song SO MUCH!! Like everytime she says "a cause, a cause, a cause" it sounds like she's on the verge of tears and it absolutely kills me!! And the music is so melodic And that part at the end when she goes "transfoooorm-UH" Seriiously, everything about this song is perfect. When I listen to it, it just fills my soul (not to sound lame, but I dont know how else to explain it). I can't even believe people are grouping it with A Cause! Its two totally seperate songs....who cares that they share some words? They're in completely different leagues. I really hope that this version isn't ignored. Best.Song.Ever. Berceuse - 9/10I really didnt like this song at first, but thats before someone here kindly translated it for me. Its SO sad, and I put it in the same group as Je Cherche L'ombre. I find them both hard to listen to casually because they are so personal and sad. Its like she wrote it herself. Poor Rene Charles Overall, I give the album a 9/10. If the album was 13 tracks of On S'est Aime A Cause then it would have been a 10/10 Quote I live my life like a runawayI hide my dreams in a special placeI'm waiting here for my prince to comeTo save me from the darkness...
LVCeline Posted June 14, 2007 at 03:03 AM Posted June 14, 2007 at 03:03 AM I agree with your assessment of On S'est Aimé A Cause! It's in a league of it's own and her vocals are so soothing and pleasant. I love her phrasing throughout and the melody is KILLER. Really one of her best songs! I totally know what you mean about it "filling your soul." That needs no more explanation. Quote
SuperLove4Celine Posted June 14, 2007 at 06:10 AM Posted June 14, 2007 at 06:10 AM Well, I've had a few more listens of the album and I'd have to say my top three favorites are: "Et s'il n'en restait qu'une""A cause""Femme comme chacune" I find myself singing the last few lines of "Femme comme chacune"'s chorus quite a bit! I hope it goes single. It could be like Celine's very own "I'm Every Woman" anthem or something. I don't know, I'm just rambling. Don't mind me. LOL ...Joe... Quote

Frozen_Phoenix Posted June 16, 2007 at 08:41 AM Posted June 16, 2007 at 08:41 AM So, after dowloading quite much from the Multi Media section I'll finally give my personal review on D'Elles. Et S'il N'en Restait Qu'une ( 9 / 10 ) Hmm, the first time I heard it I somehow felt disappointed because after getting to know that Celine will release another French Single I really expected very much from that release. The point was that it sounded to different and somehow I wasn't really able to see a red line in the song. Anyway now I really love this song. The lyrics are great, her voice is fantastic and it really is different from her other songs. I love the choir, the violins and so on. Somehow I also can relate to the topic she sings about ^^°. Immensité ( 8 / 10 ) Again, I really didn't like the first time I heard it. It just sounded so boring and so "unspecial".Now, that I listened to it over 40 times, I really like it. From the music point of you it still isn't that special, but the lyrics alone turn this song into a jewel as they are very poetic. The violins are super ^^° A Cause ( 8 / 10 ) For me it somehow sounds like a French Version of "I drove all night", anyway it somehow carries on the spirit of her "One Heart" album. The song is fantastic, it's so energetic and fast pased. This really could be a club hit.She also interprets the lyrics of the song in this version of the song in a somehow angry way. And I just like "angry" Je Cherche L'ombre ( 9 / 10 ) Wow, I was totally surprised by this song. It is so intense, there is so much power behind it. This flute is absolutly fabulous and it so reminded me of the Rohan theme in Lord of the rings ^^°. When I then translated the lyrics word by word I really fell in love with this song because it's so tragic and it leaves different ways to be interpreted. Anyway, it is a song that still gives me goose bumps and it really means much to me because it is so emotional and I am just a very emotional human being La Paradis ( 4 / 10 ) Hmm the song is ok but it sounds too much like a song for "1 fille et 4 types". It's just too much country like.It probably is nice to listen to it while driving a car but for me it really isn't anything special. Also the lyrics here are more flat and not as multi layered as some of the other songs on D'elles. La Diva ( 6 / 10 ) I really expected much of this song when I read the reviews of some of the users here and I got a bit disappointed. No doubt, from the point of voice, this is one of her most challenging French songs but for the rest: I don't know.It somehow failed to impress me.Also the opera part. She really sings softly so it's hard to say if she sings it in a really great way + she somehow seems hiding behind Callas voice. That is not meant as a critic and I know that she has no reason to hide her opera singing but I just expected so much more of the song. And I like "Papillon" much more ^^° Femme Comme Chacune ( 7 / 10 ) It just sounds so positive and really has a certain drive to it. It reminded me very much of "Je lui dirai".But somehow it doesn't really fit to the melancholic rest of the album. Anyway it is a good and catchy song but certainly not my favourite of this album. Si J'étais Quelqu'un ( 4 / 10 ) I so can not connect to this song. The half rocky half popy music really seems weird to me.But what I like less of the song are the lyrics. I don't know considering the writer of the lyrics, the song is so clichee and I really don't like that. It is not horrible but it's just not my type of Dion song and listening to it just feels the same like listening to La Paradis although I like La Paradis a bit more. Je Ne Suis Pas Celle ( 8 / 10 ) It really has something. It also seems very different to me just like "Et S'il N'en Restait Qu'une " but of course different in another direction. The music produces a gloomy atmosphere for me. The song builds up in a great way and I love Celine's voice in it. I'm somehow afraid of forgetting about the song in the future because everythime I listen to it it sounds like I'm listening to it for the first time because there really isn't anything "catchy" to it.Anyway, it is a great song ^^. Le Temps Qui Compte ( 10 / 10 ) Oh my god, when I listened to the song for the first time it almost made me cry. This song means so much to me.It builds up in a fantastic way and there is so much energy to it, it somehow feels like a storm.I immidiatly translated the lyrics and I also love those lyrics. There is so much truth in them and I'm somehow really linked to this song. I also thought that the writer was by far the most charismatic one.For me at the moment this is the best song of her whole career. This song will so be played on my funeral ^^°.Celine, thank you so much for this song.It also reminds me of Contre nature but it is so much besser.I really can't express how much I love this song.I would love to see a vidioclip for it and I would love to hear a live version. Lettre de George Sand à Alfred de Musset ( 1 / 10 ) Boring, I hate it. The idea of putting music behind such a letter certainly is interesting and for the students of French Literature it probably is also very interesting but for me it's just too boring.Anyway I like the idea of doing something like that considering the role of the person who wrote the song. On S'est Aimé A Cause ( 9 / 10 ) I heard this song for the first time on the TV Special and I got totally carried away.It starts off so simple but it simply is super beautiful and it is a true Celenish song, isn't it?I also think that it is a song that she'll perform very often in the future on concerts and stuff. The idea of having the same lyrics for two different songs is simply fantastic especially when the interpretations couldn't be more different from each other. I personally like this interpretation more but just because I would interpret the meaning of the lyrics not in an angry way like in A cause but just like they are interpreted here in this version.I just love the song and the lyrics ^^ Berceuse ( 3 / 10 ) I really hope that we won't have Lullabies on every single CD that Celine will produce in the future. It certainly is sweet but i really don't like it that much. I'm just sick of her singing Lullabies, sorry ^^°. Overall for me this is Celine's best French album and my favourite French album of all times. The lyrics are mostly very high standard and very poetic and I love to have different possible interpretations for lyrics. And that's exactly the point, the lyrics make this album really stand out and they let it appear in a different light than her other French albums. It is quite melancholic.I can't wait to see her perform songs of this album live.It just is a great composition and a great mixture of music styles.Thank you so much for this jewel ^^ Quote Et la vie glisse sur l'eau du tempsLa vie resiste, prend son elanPour un baiser elle peut se poserLe temps qui compte est toujours compte http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f248/ARMOIT/celinechances-1.png
