"D'Elles": Personal Reviews - Official Topic

IMO OSAC is the highlight of the album, it's a very powerful song, which she sang so naturally and in a heartfelt way.

La Diva is great but it's not my favourite.Maybe if she did more than a couple of takes it would have sounded more polished, but it's still a powerful vocal show-off.But not Celine's best in years though...

there is only 2 songs that i skip everytime i listen to this album - the worst song on this album for me would have to be "On s'est aimé à cause" . i dont like her voice there , i think she is trying too hard and it's a mess - in parts she screams there and not really singing .

How do you contradict yourself time after time?

i'm not contradicting myself - i'm contradicting most of the people here

i always hated it when she screamed and i always loved her high notes - it's not the same thing!! :nono:

Shai, I can't believe you don't think she sounds strained in La Diva. There was effort behind those huge notes and you could tell. Like Bellamy said, in some instances it even sounds a bit off key. She doesn't even have that many big notes in OSAC so I'm not sure where you think she's screaming. When she sings 'que l'amour se transfooooorme', that sounds like screaming to you? More then 'Maria la maaaniiifiiique'. I dont think so...

joeym....

I live my life like a runaway

I hide my dreams in a special place

I'm waiting here for my prince to come

To save me from the darkness...

off key?! people - what r u talking about?!?

tal , on 'Maria la maaaniiifiiique' she sounds amazing...LA DIVA is not her best song ever vocaly but it's up there .

and i can not really explain it but she sounds tired and strained on OSAC

it's like she is really trying too hard and it doesnt even sound good . in la diva it sounds very natural on the high notes in my opinion

... and I don't agree on Si j'était quelqu'un... I don't see why she has to 'shout' the chorus... oh well ...

It is not about that she doesn't shout the verses, it is the way she sings the verses. It sounds rediculous. She has sung this way before and then it sounded very good. Compare the first verse of Je Crois Toi to the way she sings "si j'était quelqu'un" in the verses, and you'll se what I mean.

Peace and love to all.

Sometimes it's fun to go back and look at your opinion on the album when you first listened and then to see if it's changed later on. 2 months after the release I think my opinions still hold. I still listen to OSAC and get chills and it's my most played on the album by far. Les Paradis, and Le Temp qui Compte are probably my least favorite, but that doesn't mean I dislike them. When I reviewed the album at first I didn't warm up to Femme Comme Chacune much, but now it's fantastic! I can't say it's her best album, because quite honestly there are songs on every album I adore and songs I don't listen to as much, but it's not lacking anything to me! It did produce one of her greatest songs ever in OSAC though if you ask me.

Standout favorites:

Immensite

OSAC

La Diva

Bercause

Femme Comme Chacune

Je Cherche L'ombre (even though it's a tad boring, the arrangement and her voice are perfect)

Et S'il N'est Reste Qu'un

My favorites on the C.D. are

1) Immensite

2)On saime A Cause

3) Le Diva

4) SNRTQ

5)A Cause

6)Bercuse

7)Je cherche l'ombre

8)Les paradis

9)Femme comme chacune

10)Si j'étais quelqu'un

11)Je ne suis pas celle

12)Le temps qui compte

i must admit i'm appreciating D'elles now more than ever. i've said it a million times already, but i'll never get tired of saying that S'il Suffisait D'aimer remains my all time favorite non-english album (regardless of the artist). SISDA is the french counterpart of Falling into You, FLAWLESS. she's untouchable during that era and she can never go wrong working with Jean Jacques Goldman. they make great music together.

about D'elles, at first listen, i found it a bit boring and i can stand listening to the entire cd. but after learning the lyrics, it's safe for me to say that it's a lot better than D'eux (just an opinion).

I meant Tous Les Blues Sont Ecrits Pour Toi. :D

I know it's an offbeat idea but:

Celine + English version + Rick Rubin/Brian Eno = Manuel on Cloud 9 :giggle:

I think D`elles is not that perfect.

It has very god lyrics, but locks on production:

JE CHERCHE L`OMBRE has a very week melody, the melody is so repetitive, she sang a verse and after the refrein is very small and week.

LE PARADIS is beautiful, but it hasn`t a good solo, like almoust every rock melodies have. And the melody is repetitive to. It has week production

FEMME COMME CHACUEN has the same story, and the solo is very very week.

SI J`ETEIS QUELQUEN has not end. After the second verse, there has not end. week production

LE TEMP QUI COMPTE is very small, and the end of the song is not that good at all!!!

SNRQ has a very banal melody, IMMENSITE, to

The rest of melodies are very good,(but JSNPC hasn`t a good and, like SI J`ETEIS QUELQUEN )

I think that is album is her worst produced album ever.

Sorry, but it has some bed parts whitout a good production.

oh lol

her french song titles are sometimes misleading. i once thought A Cause and On s'est aime A Cause are the same song, but they're certainly not. the latter is an amazing ballad, while the first one is  :P , so i thought Tous Les Blues and Tous Les Blues Sont Ecrits Pour Toi are different songs

Tous Les Blues + Tous Les Blues Sont Ecrits Pour Toi + S'il Suffisait D'aimer = StupiDhena :giggle: :sofunny:

A Cause is a hopeless case for you, dhena? :giggle: I have a love-hate relationship with it. :giggle:
