Celine sung I Knew I Loved You @ 2007 Oscars

Celine's gonna have to keep the performances coming now if she wants a big english album! that Oscars performance was forgettable tbh. Maybe make a few appearences on Jay Leno or Oprah to talk about what's going to happen during the final year of AND: new songs etc....

Don't you get it? It really doesn't matter what she does, those papers will still write bad things about her. You have to be deaf and not know a thing about music to say Celine's performance at the Oscars was bad. It's not a hit song, yes, it's not catchy, yes. Well guess what? It's an old melody, it's from a movie, it wasn't really meant to have a voice over. But it does, and it sounds great, and Celine was great, they are just never going to admit Celine is great, because they think that makes them "cool".

i'm not talking about what the press wrote. i'm just talking about basic coverage.

Dion Redux: How Celine got her gown groove back

Shinan Govani, National Post

Published: Tuesday, February 27, 2007

Like boxers circling each other in a ring, each drenched in the other's sweat as the whole scene rained down hell, designers and their celebrity-folk have just wrapped yet another season of bloodlust and expectation.

Oh, the Oscars! Oh, the arm-twisting and the ear-whispers! When all those splendid Los Angeles hotels come with well-oiled war rooms set up by some of the biggest of fashion houses (taking on the aspect of "Moroccan souks," as the Wall Street Journal recently put it). When there is the air of arousal, not to mention the perfume of politics, that so often accompanies the risky biz of getting clothes on celebs.

And for a certain enigmatic Canadian chanteuse -- one whose most famous Oscar close-up consisted of a reverse-tuxedo and white slouch hat to match? One that, um, helped to break the ice back in 1999, and continues to have a kind of unholy hold on people's memories of Oscars past?

Well, consider this: A New Day Has Come. And that redemption came on Sunday, and involved, in part, a suave gown by J. Mendel, that New York-based label of noble French origins.

Just hours before Celine Dion took the stage to sing in this first-rate frock, the fashion house's fifth-generation gent -- one Gilles Mendel -- scooped with me. And even offered a tiny snapshot of the whole fanciful process.

"She really has an eye," I was told about the chest-pounding pro. "She knows what she wants," I heard more than once.

Each red-carpet story has a beginning and this one began, just some weeks ago, when Celine was spotted attending the J. Mendel runway show during Fashion Week in New York. In tow? Her stylist from Montreal, Annie Horth.

Occupying the best seats in the house -- in a house that included shoe god Christian Louboutin and Sex and the City gal Cynthia Nixon -- the guest of honour was struck by one of the looks at the very end of the show. It was an all-out glam number. A modern take on a certain Ms. Park Avenue. A full-length gown that was glossy and fitted and the sartorial answer to licking peanut butter off a spoon.

Having worn a lot of J. Mendel in her long-running Las Vegas show, the singer already had an association with the atelier --proof that time in the City of Sin has been kind to the Pride of Quebec. Proof, too, that the now-38-year-old woman, who's had her share of titanic faux pas and has even served as a Mr. Blackwell punching bag, had managed to do the near-impossible: become more, and not less, sophistique in Vegas!

After the New York show, Project Oscar geared up. With Celine committed to perform I Knew I Loved You as part of the Feb. 25 tribute to Ennio Morricone, the timing was tight and the action shifted into a three-city affair. The back-and-forths went between New York, Vegas and L.A. (the latter where Celine had a final-hour fitting with Gilles just one day before the Awards!).

Knowing what she wants and how she wants, Dion requested the dress that was dark slate on the runway, but in a powdery blush. So, that's what she got. "Gorgeous with her skin tone," is the verdict.

At all stressful? The fashion house insists that its star customer "wasn't into the whole rat race" -- the hellish routine that, in fact, many designers go through with their picking-and-choosing celebs. Quote: "We didn't have one of those moments like, 'Oh, no, she's going to wear Valentino!' She wasn't out there having 10 different dresses made for herself."

Fast-forward to the big night, 476 hours into the show -- after Celine had already made arrival scenes in a vintage, green, bias-cut dress by James Galanos -- when she and her stage-dress finally appeared. She may have been over-emoting like usual, but she was over-emoting looking like a nice, tall glass of pink champagne! The fit-for-a-diva midsection on the dress, and its architectural shape, looked like a winner.

The reviews speak for themselves. "Celine Dion looks great. Strange, but true," cracks the New York Post. One blogger blabs: "Elegant and toned -- not her usual gaudy and boney self." A friend of mine in L.A. back-hands: "Well, I absolutely didn't want to Tivo her dress."

This is fashion, after all, and everyone's got an opinion.

"She's never looked better," is the official word from Canada's Bronwyn Cosgrave, author of that new, authoritative book on Oscar fashion, Made for Each Other.

"And," more importantly, she adds, "The song did not go on and on and on."

It's half mean, half good :lmao: Who wrote it abviously hates Celine, but his job was to report on what Mendel said about her...

I knew I loved is according to me the most touching Céline's appearence at the Oscars after my heart will go on. I go mad about this.
Merci Monsieur Angélil pour tout ce que vous avez fait, pour l'avoir aimée jusqu'au bout. Aujourd'hui on sait que Céline n'est pas vraiment Céline sans vous.

After reading so many posts and comment, after listenin to the mp3 and accapella, and watching the HD video, after seein so many Hi Res Pics and reviews....it was like after so many years this is the first time i been following from a wonderful journey with Celine with the companionship from fans from all around the world...

At first Rumour/news "Celine recording a tribute song to Ennio Morricone" (Hoping it is true)

Then confirmed Celine recording a tribute song called "i knew i love you"...i am so excited...(Greatest news)...

Been waiting for so long........then miracle happen.,.....a short preview of the song leaked on the net, everyone wanted the song so much

downloaded and it started of with "I knew I love you, before i knew you, the hand of time, would lead me to you, an evening star....."...again it created another excitement ...truly amazing ....cant wait to have the full song...

It was indeed a buzy day, been followed the forum hoping someone leak the full song....Celine hear my call...and someone from the forum pm the full song to me...

Get access and downloaded....teary eyes.....What a wonderful day ....without Celine..how could i go on and on.....her voice and music touched my heart...

This created another bz for all the fans....as everybody posted and wanted those who have the full song to pm them.....for the 1st time....my forum Inbox...was so active.....

Here again Rumour saying that Celine will perform at Oscar 2007 for a tribute to Ennio Morricone.....and yet another incredible great news that brighten up my day and i believe the same happen to the rest of the die hard fans as well.....

Finally it get confirmed that our Diva will perform at Oscar 2007....wow....another hot topic....guessing how she will sounds like....how she will dresses like.....will her performance blow everyone away.....nervous...happy...worry....excited....mixture of feeling....some even posted the dress that want Celine to wear ....some also combined the 5 times performance and celine appearance in the previous year Oscar into one video and post it on the youtube.......some will asked...will she get interview for the red carpet.....

I cant eat, cant sleep.....hoping that time flies faster...so we can get to see Celine on Oscar.....

At last, at last....here come 26 Feb 2007.....the Oscar day.....those who catch it live on TV seein Celine wearing the green dress on the red carpet...those who didnt catch it live....nevermind....as the kindest celinedionforum.com was reporting live as well..by posting all the pic.....and the whole forum starting to post like half an hour gone....but still didnt see Celine....after commercial break here comes Celine (seriously i was like catching the Oscar live but without sound and visual.....but i m imaginative enough hehehehhehe)

"I knew I love you" Intro music followed by the host annoucin " ladies and gentleman, Celine Dion performing the world premier of I knew I love You" applause from the floor...Suddenly just like an angel.....Celine singing "I knew I love you........" OH MY GOD the hair.....the make up.....the dress....her body figure....her voice...her gesture..her facial expression.....

Personally...Celine is not only moving a step to Diva of the world....she is the Queen of Diva in the world....for me Celine has never ever look that great (i ddin mean she look bad....she always look pretty amzing and stunnin to me) but this time....totally a new look...a classy....definetely like a goddess from Ancient Greek...no joke....her look totally a lot more better than those female on that night....

her voice? at first i just downloaded the mp3 and from that i find that she is so nervous on this performance....i was like??? How come? she is a diva and she has been thru at many big big event like olympic, and not to mentione 5 times at Oscar...how could she get nervous....i guess she is tired.....but overall the performance was pretty amazing especially the big notes at 1:59 min...

But after downloded and watched the video....trust me she is not tired...she is not nervous.....she is not off tune....but i find that she is too emotional...just like a little girl so happy when she get to meet her idol or someone that she respect....after all....Celine is still a woman...deep down in her heart.....she still as vulnerable as all of us smetime.....if not then....she must be personally touched by beautiful lyric and music arrangement that bring back lots of memories to her......

For me....i think she is not there to performs for the Oscar audiences but much like she is there to sing for one and the one respected musician Ennio Morricone...moreover...i think she is like singing to herself.....a reflectment of her truself....how she feels about love...and in the game of love...human could be vulnerable and fragile....that is why....she is so fragile...make us the fans want to run to her and protect her.....

Though there is no standing ovation for her...but this is not Celine night...but the main cast is Ennio Morricone....but i did her whistle and ppl shouting at the end of Celine performance....it clear and ppl on the floor loves her....and they are moved by this beautiful song.......

seriously speaking.....Celine could just showcase how good her vocal cord is...by belting out every notes or singing in higher key.lower key.....but what for????? Is this a American idol or some kind of singing contest that require how could a person can sing?????????? The answer is NO.....she has proven to the whole world that she can sing...and above all this She is still shining bright in the music

world ...those who want to see how good a person can sing and all the singing skill....pls go and catch those singng contest.....i m sure those program and contestants will please you....which they are all singing for the sake of showcasing

how good they are......

The conclusion is .....from all the post in the forum....and the excitement from the beginning till the over of Oscar....isnt Celine "I knew I Love You" make your day....as a fans....are we still need to calculate the degree of satisfaction she bring to us? Just imagine....Celine announcing she quit singing and retire.....till then....i guess those who commented a lot will regret....why they never trying to appreciate what they have now?......

At last but not least....The Oscar bring a beautiful fullstop to the hit of "I Knew I Love You"......WEll DONE CELINE DION.....GUESS WHY Celine recording the song " What More Can I Give"

BIG THANKS TO THE WORLD BEST DIVA CELINE DION

I just want to make it clear that it was surely not her best performance, and that goes without saying. It wasn't her best vocal night, and she couldn't have hit any big notes if she wanted to, as evidenced by the minor cracked note at the beginning, and after that happened I thought no way is she going to be able to sing the end part that goes "now all my DAYS, and all MYYY nights." Her voice is much more fragile at those higher notes, and she didn't hit them well, but overall I thought her tone was completely beautiful for the majority of the song, and her falsetto was really nice. Add to it the exquisite dress she was wearing and she really showed some class despite a not so great performance.

Nice quote from a Toronto Star article. The Toronto Star is a big Canadian newspaper that is not always nice to Celine, but this time it's different and true!! ENJOY:

"For me, the best part of the evening was when Canada's Céline Dion walked out and sang a new song dedicated to special honouree Enrico Morricone, arranged from his theme music to Once Upon a Time in America.

The song was passionate and the performance was flawless. People in the Kodak Theatre sat in rapt attention, quietly savouring the moment. It was the way the Academy Awards used to be, back when they and the films they celebrated were special. No seltzer bottles or cream pies were needed."
