now i'm getting excited and nervous i must say

i pray she'll nail this one , 10 years ago i didnt have to worry about such things cause her voice was very steady almost 100% of the time but this days it's not exactly the situation - i just hope she wont speak few days before the performance and work really hard for this one

i'm being quite optimistic about this performance. I mean why Celine? Out of all the performers on the songs? We know she's the best! But some people don't!

SHE REALLY NEEDS TO REDEEM HERSELF!

 

The last time she was at the Oscars, she got THE MOST ATTENTION, yet it was with the million-dollar Ray-Ban sunglasses (the good), the Fedora (the bad), and the Back-ward Dior Suit (the UGGGGLY!)

 

I just have a feeling she is going to be the most glamorous this evening; especially on the red carpet and as she graces the stage with her presence and her voice. It's the night to be a DIVA! The last time she graced the red carpet was on the evening at The World Music Awards, when she walked the red carpets with the $30,000 Yves Saint Laurent Chinese Dress... ready to accept her Diamond Award! I can't wait to see how she will be this time! It seems like she cares more for finer things now than ever before... which will be GREAT! Even though we want to remember her voice... A lot of Oscar history, in terms of pictures that are immortalized in periodicals, is captured on the red carpet.

i'm always saying that celine is the best singer ever and i said right from the start that this song is probably going to be amazing as quincy worked on it .

her voice is not like it used to be in the 90's and there is nothing we or she can do about it .

and! She could've sung "There You'll Be" (and possibly won an Oscar) if she had not said "NO" to recording that song for the OST of "Pearl Harbor"

 

Hmmmm... I thought I heard it somewhere a few years ago that Oscar performances are pre-recorded earlier that day during sound check... This is NOT to start another "CELINE-LIPS-HER-SONGS" discussions... just verification. I think this is one of the options these artists have; because regardless, the Academy wants their award show to be as LIVE as possible... that's why the show is live and syndicated... and the "pre-recorded" would be a...semi-Live

 

Also, someone PLEASE VERIFY WITH ME!!! THIS is NOT the Savage Garden song, is it???

That's the biggest misconception Céline Dion fans or fans of big voiced divas have. Let me repeat that once again, gogo: This is the biggest misconception EVER.

 

You don't know anything, gogo. Back then Internet was limited and all you could watch are her performances on TV. And accordingly you APPRECIATED them more cuzz you didn't get to see her very often. Now with this forum and the power of Internet youcan follow her everywhere and watch every single thing and thus analyse and overanalyze things by not paying attention to the whole picture.

 

Again this time she will give her best like she did at the Oscars in 97, 98 and 99.

 

I can't wait for this appearance. She will SO blow.

back then we didnt have as many performances as we have now but that doesnt mean that u cant appreciate a good vocal performance .

celine nailed it time after time in the 90's - no matter when where or how she had this powerful voice that always blew everyone away...u cant argue with the facts - celine doesnt have that powerful instrument anymore , i mean she is still amazing and she can still hit the money notes on a good day but u truely cant compare celine of the 90's to celine nowdays...this days each and every high note is much harder for her , in the past she sang songs like LEE , MHWGO , LBDB so easily u couldnt even believe it , now things have changed and it doesnt have anything to do with her doing many tv shows....i can still hear her voice and it's diffrent

About the Oscar, I'm pretty sure they really do that, but I'm pretty sure Céline will do her best to sing everything live, and I'm sure she's gonna rock!!

Why celinedion.com isn't announcing it yet? Because the Academy Awards probably must make the annoucement first. Nobody can steal this exclusivity from the AA!

Nope and nope. Every time she appeared on TV back then she did seemingly nail it but she's got plenty of messed up performances, particulairly in 1997 and 1999. Which then again leads me to this psychologcal attidtude of some here, including you, that argue blindly that her voice back in the 90's is perfect, now it's bad. It ain't so and you are just using this 2 years sabbatical of hers to mark an artificial border in your head to segregate performances, eras, voices, whatever. It seems that this has very much affected your resoning and you won't refrain from your obstinate opinion on her former and on her current vocals.

 

I may not change it but you have to know that seeing the things without this artificial border of yours I see things VERY differently. What I see is a steady performer that delivered always good performances according to her age which doesn't naturally exclude some messed up performances here and there BACK then and NOW. She's still a bloody good performerand I compare her vocals to the situation she was in back then and now when the context is MUCH MUCH different. You fail to see things in the context. You see only one frame from the 90's but you haven't heard many messed up performances of hers ppl wrote about on the usesnet forums, as well.

 

She did have off nights in the 90's, more so because of her unbelievabely tight schedule and she DID mess up quite a few times back then, as well. Just like she does now but now she's performing much more often than she was in the 90's and you still fail to see the context and still don't want to think a little about what she's at now. But of course you will have your border in the head for ever and will see the things your way and that you're entiteled to but I will always & always pop in and set the record straight about the actual context, not two usesless frames one from the past, one from now - a comparison? THAT would be a comparison? Well, not for me.

i remmember few off performances back then too but her voice was diffrent and there is nothing u can say about it cause it's a fact...it became much more fragile and her notes tend to break much more...she cant hit those long notes like she used to with her PERFECT vibrato and powerful vocals...

 

take her top 10 performances from the 90's and the top 10 performances since her 2002 comeback and u'll see exactly the diffrence...

i know u like her new voice and it's alright...and ofcours she is still an amazing performer like no other artist (she is gonna be 40!) .

but age , family , attitude made her voice diffrent , less powerful , less accurate -whether u like it more this way or not , it's not really the question

celine herself had admitted that her voice had changed (asked by Larry King i think again) and that her vocal coach had warned her about it. (Cause she didn't take any singing lessons during her sabbatical.yet she chose to do it (but maybe she meant the colour of her voice).She IS screwing up more than she did and she's not as good as she was.it maybe has to do with what she sings or how often she sings but STILL the fact is she sounds worse than before her sabbatical.maybe her fall started before that, but the difference between now and then is SO obvious.
