Taking Chances Live in South Africa 2008

 

So, this is full live. Most of the songs she did in South Africa were full live. I understand after this concert she needs to partially lip some songs but with this it means she can do it live.

« Taking Chances » is a wonderful albums full of amazing energy, vibes and emotions carried throughout its finely crafted collection of songs.

 

Listening to the whole album from beginning to end remains a hair-raising experience to me even 16 years from my first play.

 

« Shadow Of Love » captures all the joy and passion Céline seems to have had while recording that masterpiece. « A Song For You » is absolutely divine. It gets me feeling like walking on air and taking a deep breath before the string of following tracks.

 

I do hope we will get someday a vinyl edition of the album with the bonus tracks « Map To My Heart » and « The Reason I Go On » included

Shadow of Love and Fade Away are two of her best album tracks. If she was Kelly Clarkson they would have released Fade Away as a single I think.

it was recorded right after Surprise Surprise. She even has the same outfit on

Yes, on the listening party at the Colloseum they played this song. I think it was called Let Me Be Your Soldier back then.

There are some differences, not as many as her 90s albums, though in my opinion. All of One Heart is in Dolby Atmos, too, and so are if you ask me to, beauty and the beast and two love you more from their respective albums. Fade Away is probably the biggest change as the backup vocals are quite inexistant in the Dolby Atmos version

Incognito, Unison except WDMHBN, selftitle except If You Asked Me To and Beauty And The Beast, Dion Chante Plamodon, All The Way, except That’s The Way it is, On ne Change Pas, The essential Celine Dion which isn’t on apple music anyway, and Encore un soir . None of her live albums are either.

To be honest I was expecting much better mixes for the Dolby Atmos. There's almost no separation. No bueno. Team Celine giving us nothing once again.

I was noticing something... older albums, mainly the ones produced by David Foster, always bring something new to the Dolby Atmos release... new vocals, new instruments...

I don't think Team Celine has much control over this part... this has to be with the way the songs were recorded and stored back in the day...

 

Those albums that have no new things, at least have new ways of displaying the instrumentations...

I'm hearing instruments that weren't as obvious in the regular release in the One Heart album... lots of playing with 3D audio in some parts too...

Isn't it funny how old albums always sound a bit different (and better) when they come out in Atmos? Like, I started listening to "To Love You More" and I can already hear it!

Listening to Taking Chances album in Dolby Atmos

 

I think it sounded fuller now

 

You can hear some added instruments and elements that wasn’t there before. Background vocals are more present. Even some effects like echoes are now clearer. Bass is much cleaner.

 

In Main vocals, there’s not much difference. It’s pretty much the same.

 

In “Surprise, Surprise” song, the snare drums and elements are now present. You can hear more instruments like electric guitar. Also some extended echoes for the main vocals - like the song “Map To My Heart”.

 

The songs “New Dawn” and “That’s Just A Woman In Me”, background vocals are now louder.

 

In “A Song For You”, the line “Heard the music in my head…”

you can hear the added elements in this part.

 

The chorus of the song “A World To Believe In”, you can hear the sound more fuller unlike before. So much instruments I can hear. But the vocal layer of Celine is now weaker unlike in the original mix. That part.. “You gave me a world..” and in between there should be a vocal layer of Celine singing.

 

Can’t fight the feelin’ - i don’t know what kind of instrumentals been added it sounded like a different type of guitar maybe it’s a Banjo? I’m not sure.

 

You can hear clearer vocals of Neyo doing the background vocals for the song “I Got Nothin’ Left”.

 

More instrumental elements now for the songs “Fade Away”, “Map To My Heart” and “Skies of L.A.”

 

Even “Taking Chances (i-Soul Extended Remix)” is now in Dolby Atmos but no changes in this remix. It’s still sound the same.

 

Most of these changes focuses on instruments, more effects/elements, louder background vocals. Not much in the main vocals. Maybe a bit cleaner. And a bit less forward vocals like the songs “A Song For You” and “Skies Of L.A.”, I remember the vocals of these songs are bit forward.
