Which Michael Jackson song? I really can't get on board with a Ne-Yo duet. Just because it's Celine, and if she's going to share a marquee it has to be with someone of her stature, not some ersatz Usher.
Look under the Incredible NeYo thread..... :) I just can't see it being this song!!!
I have had the time of my life following this woman!  Much love.

Oh that's just terrible. It sounds like it was lifted off the Invincible cutting room floor, and not much was cut from THAT album, let's just say.

I pray this isn't it.

Well back on topic...

I'd figure that this era had one of my least favorite Celine looks. When the hair was cut really really boyish and she had those terrible waistcoat-looking things with the over-the-top sleeves, I thought that was way too Phantom of the Opera for my taste. :giggle:

I never realized until now how involved Diane Warren was in her career at this point. She has like ten writing credits on this album and Celine Dion combined. And then the well just... stops. Why is that? I'm sure it's been explored ad nauseam here, and frankly I'm fine with them not collaborating much after the 90s since Diane Warren lost her mojo hard in the past decade, but is there a reason for the abrupt disappearance?

As for TLYM, strange in a way that you associate it with LTAL, see I cant imagine the english version of be the man (on this night) not being on the album, I know it wasnt on your album you got TLYM, I sort of can see it fitting in, just as Ive never listened to it with that album it would be so strange for me. BTW have the americans really ever heard to be the man song, as I know on the CSV1 it was the japanese version (at least in the UK?)

I associate TLYM with LTAL too, being in the US -- though the first time I ever heard it was spring of '97 (before LTAL was released) when Celine performed TLYM on a VH1 honors concert (predecessor to Diva's Live; to raise $$ for music in schools) with a music student playing the violin part. It was one of those songs I adored instantly and completely, and I was so excited to finally get it on the LTAL album.

It's the 2nd to last song on the album, and I actually can't hear the ending of TLYM w/o hearing the beginning of LTAL in my head.  Absolutely love that pairing . . .

Be The Man was on CSV1 in the US, too.  It's a good song, but not a masterpiece like TLYM (in my opinion).

The Power Of Love:
I really love this one. Had to get used to it though as I already knew other versions. Especially Celine changing "I am your lady" into "I'm your lady" sounded really strange to me. But once I was used to it, it became my favorite version ever. No one can sing it like Celine!

Misled:
Great up-tempo. Like it a lot.

Think Twice:
Didn't like it at first. When it was released as a single, I thought it would never become a hit. You can imagine I was so amazed it became her first #1 hit here and made her come for a concert. Although she had had top 40 hits before, Think Twice made her a household name here. There was no escaping this song. Thank God for that, because all those times on Top Of The Pops and on the radio made me fall in love with this song.

Only One Road:
I thought this was a safe bet for a hit. Very middle of the road. However, it didn't do well on the charts. Although I thought it could be a hit, it's never been a favorite of mine. It sounds like anyone could sing it. It misses that extra special something.

Everybody's Talkin' My Baby Down:
I love this one. Great lyrics. For Celine it must have been like she was singing about René. I've played this so often. Back in the day it was really one of my favorites.

Next Plane Out:
Bit boring.

Real Emotion:
Loved this one back in the day. I always fell for the up-tempo's at first sight. Ballads usually have to grow on me. But although I have played this song over and over and over again... I hardly play it anymore.

When I Fall In Love:
I love this song. Rick Astley also did a great version. But Celine turns this into something unique by singing it as a beautiful duet.

Love Doesn't Ask Why:
One of my favorites. One of the highlights of the album!!!!!! LOVE it!

Refuse To Dance:
Another one of my favorites. Sounds so different and mystic. Love the whole atmosphere. And the performance on the Colour Of My Love DVD is just brilliant!

I Remember L.A.:
One of her most romantic songs. LOVE it!!! And it doesn''t grow old on me.

No Living Without Loving You:
Never really cared for this song. It's just okay IMO.

Lovin' Proof:
Like Real Emotion I really liked this back in the day, but now I hardly play it anymore.

Just Walk Away:
Such a beautiful ballad. Lyrically it's a lot like that Ace Of Base song (Don't Turn Around). Really love it. Should have been a single. So dramatic. LOVE it!

The Colour Of My Love:
Beautiful song.

Overall:
It's one of my most played Celine albums. The 90's were my favorite Celine years:
celine dion, the colour of my love, D'eux, Falling Into You...
(Let's Talk About Love was the first album in years which disappointed me.)

Off topic for a second...did you know that Ace of Base's "Don't Turn Around" was originally recorded by Tina Turner?? AND it's a Diane Warren penned song.

Back on topic..."Only One Road" is a hard song to sing. My friend Kelly Levesque recorded it for her now shelved debut album back in 2001. She has been working with Diane Warren for the past 15 years and is an AMAZING vocalist. Has sang "The Prayer" with Andrea Bocelli a handful of times, has toured with David Foster and is now on tour with Michael Bolton singing duets with him. I wish I could post her version of "ONLY ONE ROAD" here but I'm not allowed :-(

It's the 5:30 version. Uh.. I didn't know there was a seven minute version. I'll have to look into it. I swear, the part where the first chorus slams back into "see me as if you never knew...." is one of my top ten favorite MOMENTS from any song by anyone ever.

my bad its 5.30 i always get mixed up with the running times of TLYM and IACBTM as both were significantly cut for radio.

a bit off topic (ok a lot lol) but i just looked at the tracklist for the USA LTAL and i do think it would flow sooooo much better than the rest of the world version. ours is structured a bit different, after tell him where yours goes to where is the love ours jumps to an uptempo spanish song then to when I need you. which I think is a little jarring to the listening experience, then it carries on like yours does, but after MHWGO we get where is the love, a beautiful song, but i think much better placed in your album being after tell him, then we get be the man, I hate you then I love you, and LTAL. and to me i hate you then i love you really takes me out of the album being after 3 amazing songs and being before one of my all time favourites!!! where as I think your order that after MHWGO it changes pace slightly with IHYTILY and onto TLYM and LTAL. although Id hate losing BTM the loss of the spanish song wouldnt bother me as its on TCSV1, the be the man on out TCSV1 is the japanese version. I never realised the order of the songs was different too. see I like that we find stuff out on here!!!

To be honest, I hate I Hate You Then I Love You. I think it's such a cheesy disaster area, even by Celine's sometimes cheesy standards. The part where he talks about how she makes him "crazy" I just can't get behind or get past. I have to cut it out of my version of the album. I haven't listened to that song in probably nine years when I first really got into Celine's universe. I also love the placement of To Love You More as second to last. It just makes such sense to me in terms of the album, and that along with the instrumentation is why that song feels like such a natural to the Let's Talk About Love experience. Did you mention that there was a totally English version of Be The Man? I've heard one with Japanese verses or whatever, but I didn't know there was another option.

I love "I Hate You Then I Love You"...I didn't like it at all when LTAL first came out when I was 12. I was like "Luciano Pavarotti? Who is this fat ugly man? Opera? Yuck!" But now at 26 I absolutely love the song lol.

There's no need to compare her with anybody else, but compared to "other" singers of today the difference is ridiculously huge...

She also did the demo version for Kelly Clarkson's "Some Kind Of Miracle" The version Kelly Clarkson listened to when she was choosing songs for her first album was done by my friend Kelly

Kelly L looks up to Celine a lot too. I would love for her to sing with Celine someday.

Off topic for a second...did you know that Ace of Base's "Don't Turn Around" was originally recorded by Tina Turner?? AND it's a Diane Warren penned song.

I knew it was written by Diane Warren. Didn't know Tina Turner had recorded it though. I first heard the song by Aswad, who had a hit with it here in Europe. More reaggae kind of version. Loved it a lot.
It took me some getting used to to hear it by Ace of Base. But I love their version now as well.

I love "I Hate You Then I Love You"...I didn't like it at all when LTAL first came out when I was 12. I was like "Luciano Pavarotti? Who is this fat ugly man? Opera? Yuck!" But now at 26 I absolutely love the song lol.

I remember going to my step-uncle's house and they were all watching this Pavarotti concert on DVD because they're all Italian and it's like, a contractual obligation to like him. And this was around 1999 or so and they were specifically watching him do this song with Celine; and she was you know, throwing her arms out and then clasping them and holding them in close, throwing her head to the side with an anguished squint. And everyone in the room was like, "ugh, she's so overdramatic." I remember thinking "What's wrong with that?" I love that she makes it a Moment when she's onstage. It might be campy at times or whatever you want to call it, but she's certainly never boring, which is more than can be said for a lot of singers.

I'm sorry I meant... :whistling:

Well some people mentioned this as a possible answer for that:

http://www.jimsteinman.com/sacred.htm

I don't think this really accounts for it, as there was a Diane Warren song on ATW in 1999 (i want you to need me). i think they just wanted to try different sounds.

If it's strictly a music issue, then if you have the best composer writing the best songs for you you don't remove her from your next albums because you want to try new things -specially considering that Celine/Rene aren't super-innovative in music... Someone has said that Diane Warren lost her "touch"; maybe there were political decisions; perhaps it is a mix of it all or something we don't know, who knows?

When did she record that demo? She definitely has great potential.
