stevethefan Posted September 6, 2005 at 02:09 AM Posted September 6, 2005 at 02:09 AM I have not seen the whole interview yet but I did see a small part of it on Access Hollywood tonight. Celine is always very professional and the consumate entertainer and interviewer. Of course she never hides her emotions and I thought what she said was really coming from her heart and I think she could not hold back her feeling and tears any longer. I think it just spontaneously came out on the Larry King show. In the interview she mentioned how she had been holding back her tears this week. I don't know how she is able to keep doing her shows this week because it must take alot of her emotionally to have to go on stage and keep her energy up. I was glad to see her real emotions come out. This last week has been crazy for everyone. Quote

fred Posted September 6, 2005 at 03:17 PM Posted September 6, 2005 at 03:17 PM Once again and more than ever, I am so proud to be a Celine Dion fan. I could open the window now and scream this to the whole world. That was just amazing to see her true feelings coming out... no pretending, no smile to the camera.... It was just Céline angry, mad and so sorry because there are people dying out there and they don't even have water and she feels like more can be done. I could feel her frustration so close, she seems to feel she could do more than give the money. That was a woman out there speaking out, not a singer, not a diva, just a human being like me and you... She is a remarkable woman, a woman of heart. I wish more people, including myself, would have that heart and that strenght. I'm so impressed.... I could have never imagined this. Thanks so much for that Céline. We love you more than ever...<{POST_SNAPBACK}> (to marking all important parts in bold) You stole my thing!! /fred Quote Peace and love to all.

Celine=Love Posted September 7, 2005 at 02:45 AM Posted September 7, 2005 at 02:45 AM Well, I hate to be the grumpy gus in all this and altho I love Celine just as much as anyone on here, I cant say I agree totally with her. Some of the things she said are just repeats of what many othershave said i.e. the Iraq War. Its an old message of hatred for the US Government that is getting old and stale, and I would've thought that with the problems she had with previous political issues such as the Secession of Quebec from Canada, she would've learned her lesson to stay out of political mudslinging. And regardless of people may say about the Iraq War causing a shortage of manpower, its sadly mis-informed. We have PLENTY of people left here in the states to do the job. The job itself is just what's so overwhelming. I do agree with her view on the slowness of the aid reaching the victims. But then again, you have to understand the mountains of red tape that our basic system of government creates just to get something done. It doesnt excuse them, it just explains a lot. There are some other factors that made that process even worse, such as the Governor of Louisiana not calling for help sooner, and the many many people that stubbornly refused to evacuate. As far as the looting is concerned, I'm not sure where she gets off saying the things she did. Looting for food and water, even I could turn away and pretend not to notice....but, how did she put it, 20 pairs of jeans? I'm sorry Celine, thats just plain theft, and whether you've "never touched that many things" in your life or not, its still punishable by law. I never would've thought that a woman that has it all in life, as she has, would stoop to forgive criminals just because they're poor. I still love Celine - for all her good looks, charm, and beautiful voice. As an individual, she has every right to say what she feels....but as an entertainer, she ought to be more cautious of diving headlong into rocky waters or she may wind up like that idiot Kayne West, who I hope fails miserably as an entertainer and winds up being on a permanent vacation somewhere in Siberia. He is the prime example why people should get an education before they choose an entertainment career. Poor Mike Myers looked like he'd just stepped into an episode of the Twighlight Zone that night Quote "When I hear no violins..You play my every string..."
Mozinha Posted September 7, 2005 at 04:07 AM Posted September 7, 2005 at 04:07 AM As I had told you guys, not anyone in the world would agree with her. But still who cares? Chantemoi Posted September 7, 2005 at 05:08 PM Posted September 7, 2005 at 05:08 PM I have not personally had the chance to see the CNN interview, but from what I have heard I am a little disappointed in Céline. I have always respected her opinions, and I have not problem with her voicing them. But when celebrities make emotional comments like this, it issolates MANY MANY MANY fans that may disagree. Everyone agrees that the hurricane was a horrible tragedy, but many [including myself] do not put full blame on President Bush as I gathered Céline did. From the screen caps, her interview looks very emotional, but you cannot always rely on your emotions to make a logical + coherent statement. Quote
LD1977 Posted September 7, 2005 at 05:23 PM Posted September 7, 2005 at 05:23 PM (edited) I don't agree with you, Chantemoi. Céline is a normal human being that should be able to express her opinion when someone asks her how she feels about something. It would be crazy if she can't say what she thinks, because she might have a different opinion from some of her fans. How would you feel if you can't share your opinion because other people might not agree? There will always be people that don't agree with her in something, but that should not stop her from saying what she thinks. I am proud of her because she is one of the few famous people that made a statement, while most celibrities said 'political correct' things. We are not living in the old times anymore and I think everyone should be able to say their things. Of course Bush is not to blame for the hurricane, but I totally agree with Céline when it comes to evacuating and helping people. Its not ok that people had to wait one week for help. And Céline was right to speak out loud about that. And maybe its better to first watch the interview, so you know wat she exactly said? I think she had considered her speech well! No offense, but this is how I feel about it. Chantemoi Posted September 7, 2005 at 05:30 PM Posted September 7, 2005 at 05:30 PM I understand + I agree that she should voice her opinion, but making such an emotional display like that is not always good. In order to make a sensible, respectable argument, you must use the facts... not emotions [notice, I am not saying that debates should be cold and heartless without emotion]. I personally am just disappointed to see her change her way of using her status to help people into lashing out against people. And to make the situation even more dangerous and controversial, Céline is not a U.S. Citizen, therefore such remarks [even if they make have some truth in them], are seen as disrespectful to anyone else that has differing opinions. mangust Posted September 7, 2005 at 05:39 PM Posted September 7, 2005 at 05:39 PM (edited) She was logical! She didn't stand to forgive criminals! She asked to pay MORE attention to safe people than to catch those who stealing. There will be time for it also. Now it's MORE important to send rescure men to save people who spent 3-5 days on the roofs amoung dead bodies floating around, without food and water! About the Bush... well what can I say...even if you're not allow me to critisize him for his doings - that's Ok - but hi's the leader of the country and that's why he's responsible for everything and he is to be blamed for everything. Because he's the leader right now and because the leader is always blamed. That's the life's rule! Celine did everyhting right! She was there as a human being. She has the right to have an opinion and not to hide it. As for the sitizenship. Many made jokes about her saying:"We need to serve our country", pointing that she's a canadian. But I think firstly she just repeated by it the motto of the many Bush's speachs and his doings. I even can take it as a sarcasm of her. Secondly - she lives in U.S and those words just showed how important this for her. That she's not stranger whom doesn't concern anything because it's not her country (in paper)! Third It's just prooved that she wishes the best to the place that became her HOME now. Emotions...well.. she's a woman. But I (and many others) understood every word what she standed for despite her emotions. She meant every word, she didn't say anything out of the theme. She was strugling her emotions and maybe she was a bit anger on herself for the tears. But she had her 5 minutes and said ALL that was needed to say. She did everything right. Politicians can't make emotional speeches like Céline did, they have to use facts to make people react. The thing is that Céline is not a politician... but it doesn't prevent her from saying what she thinks. So she may not have talked the way people wanted her to, but you can't blame her for that. Politicians (and other people) didn't do what they had to do, Céline was so upset and sad to see that people are still suffering, and as she said herself, she talked with her heart. I don't know why she should prevent herself from crying when she needs to. What you said makes me think that we can't express our feelings in front of everyone... just because it's "not good". She said she saw everything in real time on TV. Any other facts were needed to make a statement? She had facts and all had. They just did upset her. But she operated facts and real things to make her point. She was not fantasising. And I really impressed how she understands how things work out. That the money will be needed but later, that stealing is not the major thing that people won't get away from the city anyway with the stolen things. She really feels and knows and understans situation and live. Reality.Despite other people on that show. She knew and undestood UGLY side of situation. And could say and think not only :"everything will be all right! We're americans". I guess she opened eyes to many people, to make them understand that it's not the movie with the happy end when couple of people had died but everything will be allright. After the speach It was real feeling that DEATH is awful and it's scary and smells bad and it's hell there. And it's finish and man's life can't be repaired. You could feel it. She is a free woman on a free country, she can say whatever she wants to say. She has the right to do it. She has the right to speek her mind the way she wants and feels.
