We might kiss when we are alone... When nobody's watching... We might take it home... We might make out... When nobody's there... It's not that we're scared... It's just that it's delicate... We might live like never before... When there's nothing to give... Well how can we ask for more... We might make love in some sacred place... The look on your face is delicate

In what way have I offended homosexuals? I have absolutely no feelings one way or the other towards homosexuals as a group of people, no more so than I do to any other race, gender, creed or religion. I fully support their rights to get married, have kids, live how they want to live. The only mildly offensive thing I said was "Get over it" and I don't just direct that at homosexuals, but everyone who feels put upon by society. This kind of stuff happens to everyone, fight for your rights by all means but at least accept that everyone will never be treated the same. It's human nature to discriminate so it's just a part of life.

As for not knowing what it's like, I can't say that I have experienced prejudice based on my sexuality first hand, I can't even say that I've seen very much of it from my friends who are gay. What I can say is that prejudice has, on many occasions, caused me to be denied my basic human rights. While I haven't experienced your own particular problems, I, and many people like me, have experienced our own.

Well said, babymonkey. I believe I've found another person I like on this forum. It's been a pleasure talking with you.

And you. I like someone who can present a cogent argument!

Ah God, not you..leave me one thread please!!

What on earth does that mean? :lmao:

By the way, Celinefull, I actually like you too. I agree with a lot of the things you've said here as well. You're very intelligent and speak well. It's just a shame you waste your mind on Mariah! :lmao:

What I ment was, you seem to be in every thread were I disagree with someone..and generally your disgreeing with me too :ermm:

But don't anyone get me wrong, I never argue with the person, only the argument itself, and I never hold grudges against people...well..sometimes I do, only if they deserve it because I think they are stupid.

Well said Maz, in the end, like babymonkey said, regardless of wether we will ever achieve equal rights and togetherness, we have to keep striving for them.

Would it surprise you to learn that I've agreed with everything you've said in this thread? No really, I have. You're a good thinker and I appreciate what you've said on this topic. Just by agreeing with Babymonkey that prejudice is all around us and is a part of life doesn't mean I disagree with you, man. You're a groovy dude in my books.

I just know that the fight will never be over. Even the fights for women and African-Americans has a long way to go. But dammit, I want equality. I am pissed that Canada voted in a Conservative PM that wants to 'look at the Gay marriage laws' again, after we'd passed Gay Marriage into law. It scares me that Canada might take a step backward. Don't go backward, Canada!!

I'm not gay...well, I'm not sure. I'd like to think that I could fall in love with anyone as long as they have a good soul, whether that soul is wrapped in a man's body, or a woman's. But no matter who I fall in love with, I want to be assured of every right and freedom as everyone else, and if some religious zealot tells me I'm wrong because "God said so", so help me...

Awh..I get what you mean VM, and thanks for the compliments.

I am glad that you get where I am coming from, because the same thing that Bush did in the USA happened in Australia too, they just said "No, you can't have marriage" for no other reason that because they didn't think that it was morally correct (i.e. religiously correct) and also, there is this new party called 'Family First" and they say they have no ties to christianity but it's so obvious that they do to everyone.

I just want to be able to be treated fairly and with RESPECT of my opinions and beliefs in what is SUPPOSED to be a COMPLETELY SECULAR society.

I think what bothers me the most is that we are looked upon by some as being evil ... I am Catholic and the Pope has previously stated that gays are "disorded" ... that somehow we will destroy society and families if we are allowed to marry someone of the same sex. Maybe someday we will be fully accepted as children created by a loving God who did not intend for us to live our lives alone. Another issue is "rights" ... the same rights given to married couples with regard to medical inusrance, filing status for tax purposes, medical decisions, social security and pension benefits for the surviving partner. From my own recent experience, I know how important these issues are. My partner's family had to sign the consent forms for surgery and ultimatley to remove the ventilator and all medication because Karen and I had never signed health care surrogate forms. They allowed me to be a part of the decision-making, but had I been able to legally marry her, all decisions would have been mine to make.

I know that I am better for having had Karen and her love in my life ... even if it was only five years ... just doesn't seem long enough.

But you spent time with someone who you trully loved, some people never find that someone, be thankful which i know you are, for the time you had. I have lost family, and friends, but a partner is a different love, so wont try to imagine what you are going through, if you need to talk im here

I am so very grateful to have had karen in my life ... on the night before she died ... I knew that there was no hope ... but still I asked god for a miracle and realized that I had already received a miracle ... the gift of Karen and her love in my life. I do know that it is better to have loved and been loved than to have never experienced that deep love ... just doesn't make it any easier to now deal with the loss, the emptiness ...

I know what its like when you brake up with someone, you feel like its the end, so this must be worse. Im sure she told you to not be sad, to get on with life, not easy i can see , but she would love for you to be happy again, its only been a month, im a big believer that you need time for grief, then you take the next step, YOU, then living again. You know you will never forget her.

Actually, Maz, we never talked about it because it happened very fast ... she had been in the hopital for 3 weeks. Every test indicated cancer and she had a very large mass in her abdomen which seemed to be a growth from the ovarian area. She finally had surgery on March 8. When the surgeon told me he had very bad news, I expected to hear ovarian caner ... advanced stage ... months to live. But that's not what he said ... he told me that she had no small intestines ... that the blood flow had been cut off at some point ... that the small intestines had completely died and decayed inside her ... that they didn't know how she had survived the 3 weeks in the hospital ... that there was no hope ... no chance that she could survive ... the day after the surgery, she was conscious, but heavily sedated and on a ventilator, the next day she was in a coma and died.

wow thats hard for you , sometimes people are taken away and i dont think the people who believe in the lord realise, how hard that is for him to take someone away like that, i still believe that she would want you to be happy later in your life i truly do

That really makes me think about all my relationships and never taking the time I have with them for granted, thanks for sharing that with us, it was a really touching story.

You're welcome. I, too, learned from losing Karen ... about what really matters and what doesn't ... all the stupid arguments over things that were so unimportant ... all the wasted time ... It's been 1 month and 10 days ... it still seems a little unreal ...

Now I have to put my older dog to sleep today  ... something Karen and I had talked about because he was having problems walking and standing due to a problem with his left hip that continued to worsen. Late yesterday afternoon, his right hip gave out completely probably due to the strain of having to support most of the weight ... she had hoped to be able to come home from the hospital and say goodbye to him and we were going to take him together ... now I have to believe she's waiting for him. Have been up all night with him ...
