Damn this one hit me harder than the Hoda interview. The interviewer is right we will take any version of Celine Dion. The strength she has is incredible. Just no words. Edited by tshlw

I feel like we are witnessing the best interviews of Celine in years, from the questions to the answers. In these interviews it’s like Celine is more connected to her, her career, her life… For years it felt like she wasn’t aware of some things. But in reality every little changes we saw was done intentionally, the example of the placement of the voice (really thought it was due to aging and she couldn’t do anything about it). And also because she didn’t talk before of precise events I thought she sort of forgot parts of her career but when she talked about taking chances concert in Germany it really showed that she is really aware of what is going on. My perception of Celine as a person really changed this week.

Yes once Rene died she wanted everyone including her children to see she was strong and could handle it all. So she showed the world this wacky character that they ate up never looking deeper to what she was really going through.

 

Now she is finally able to show us her weaknesses. For me this is bravery admitting you are scared, you didn't know what was going on and not giving up. She had done that in the past with Rene's cancer and IVF and stuff. But after his death it was like she never let anyone below the surface instead struggling alone.

 

So glad letting us in again. I believe this will help so much as well, just as it did in the past.

 

For me this is the real Celine not the person we got from 2016/2017 and on.

My guess is that this is the reason why they didn't sent out this documentary to film festivals.

 

Think they rely on all these interviews just before the air date.

Next Monday there will be the screenings, where I think press would also attend.

So it's like 2 weeks of Celine in the media.

Just heard a brief preview/ promo on CBC Radio One Toronto. Some of there radio pieces should end up online later so I’ll try to post.

 

It seems Hoda got an hour and everyone else just 20 minutes. Not much, but I’m glad. They got Irene and Dr Piquet as well. No need to overwork Celine. This must be so emotionally draining, doing a string of interviews like this.

This interview is even better than Hoda's. Very touching. Its unbelievable how long she had symptoms and what she did during all those years when she was not ok... Celine is true fighter! Hope she can manage symptomps of disease enough for be on stage again as she wants it so much. I like end of interview her fans will wait and be happy for any version of Celine thats for sure. It is good to see connection with the Canadian English speaking press again.

 

Somehow I felt that since her return in 02, the coverage was more American / French & Quebec oriented, and the Canadian English speaking side was a bit left on the side (less interviews and coverage than in 90s).

 

It may be just my impression though.

 

I am just happy that the whole Canada is caring about her (and that the production / managed considered Canada as well) as she truly is the Canadian songbird.

Must say that this interview with CBC felt more coherent and had a better flow than the Hoda one.

 

So we got a press from America, English Canada, French Canada, Australian.

Really curious if and when France is coming through and if there will be more countries added.

Just finished this interview and yeah, agreed, it’s even more touching and in depth than the NBC one. She IS an absolute inspiration. A light in all of our lives. This documentary is going to be a tough tough watch I feel but what other “star” would put themselves out there the way Celine has done?

 

She deserves to return to the stage. I know she will do it and we’ll all be there for her when she’s ready.

I thought the same! Also, that hair colour suits her a lot more than blonde.

Just when I thought the Hoda interview was the best and most comprehensive, then comes the CBC interview. It was far superior than Hoda's, more in-depth, more details and more extensive, and as one of you said here more coherent and put together. Longer interview with Irene and her doctor as well. And the fact that, for me, she looks better, younger and more healthy here than in Hoda's was a cherry on top. Edited by marc-02

Quick question. In the interviews, they say that during the taking chances world tour, she lost her voice but she managed to sing the all by myself high note. Was that mimed or did she actually reach that note? If she did, it’s really quite amazing! And must have been very scary for her to risk her voice like that! Does anybody know?

One thing that really stands out to me from these interviews is when she’s talking about her vocal technique and how she had to “find a way.” I’ve thought that over time she’s gotten kind of sloppy and set in her ways (as far as the throaty, nasal sound goes). But in reality she just couldn’t sing like she used to. I thought she lost her discipline and was just living in her own little bubble where no one on her team would tell her that she wasn’t singing well… But it’s been SPS all along and she was just doing her best. Poor Céline :cry:

Absolutely lipped. Only live attempt was Johenesburg, the first date of the tour. With that being said all other parts including the final note were live. Going to watch this new interview now.

I didn't really see Celine mentioning that - just journalists including this particular scene from TCWT. The big note in ABM was lipped during the tour.

Right — she has been hyper aware of her voice all along. It’s a lot to take in. And it shines so much light on how she’s sounded over the last several years. She was forced to find a new way of using her voice. It wasn’t because of aging or stylistic choices (although, the rawness in Sia-style vocals probably brought her comfort because she could more easily emulate that sound with SPS). I can’t imagine how difficult it was for her to not know why her voice was so different for all those years. I bet the diagnosis brought so much clarity and she finally understood. She’s incredible. And she’s had to process so much over the past few years. It’s clear that she has more of a bird’s-eye view of herself now that she’s taken time to heal and reflect.

I loved that they ordered things chronologically in this interview. That helps the non-Celine fans keep up with everything so much easier.

I wonder if any of that was due to taking the valium and also effect SPS was having on her voice. I thought after Rene died her voice got so much higher like a little girl at times and wondered why. I think the combination of SPS and the drugs and dealing with everything effected so much more than we knew.

She sounds great! There's a whole convo we could have about her voice over the years. I think we've all known her vocals and tone could vary year-to-year...but for me, it always sounded in the realm of Celine so to speak. Even before the TCWT, her Vegas vocals sounded distinct from 90s Celine which had its own eras and differences.

 

My biggest criticisms of her voice in her later years never really had that much to do with nasality. Which is kind of ironic, because that's one of the main things she's bringing up in these interviews.
