Over the past several years, it seems like Celine's been rebelling against her "perfect vocals" in the studio image. In a way, she's kind of taken the pressure off of herself in the studio all the way back to 2002 when she came back after her first big break. She said even then that she wasn't striving for perfection anymore. Thankfully, her voice was still sublime on many of the tracks on A New Day Has Come and the albums that followed.

 

I think she spent so many years in the 80s and 90s striving for (and serving) perfect vocals and trying to do everything producers and Rene wanted her to do. So now she's making it known that she's not striving for that level of vocals anymore. That's why she loves Sia and Adele and LP... but, for me, whenever Celine sounds "raw" it comes across a bit forced and inauthentic.

 

The tricky part for Celine is that her English career was built on sounding perfect and powerful -- along with her wonderful personality, of course. I think a lot of casual Celine fans - who love her big power ballads - have no interest in hearing songs where it sounds like she's imitating artists like Sia. They want Celine to sound like Celine.

 

I'm grateful for Ashes and the songs on Courage where she sounds like herself. It's a bit frustrating because I think Celine is still very capable of sounding crystalline in the studio like she did in her prime -- with the right producers. I hope we get at least a few more songs in the coming years where she sounds like her beautiful self.

 

Her more recent French recordings, like on Encore un soir, are a much better representation of Celine sounding like herself... just a bit more mature.

Are you guys sure she will record a new song or she already recorded before and they will just release La-Bas studio version?

Là Bas is already on the first tribute CD so I doubt they'll use the same song again. But is there a studio version of Là Bas tho :hmm:

"Fermer les yeux" sounds like "Sur le même bateau". It's one of my favourite songs from his reportoire and would showcase Celine's full vocal range, which is what everyone expects. "En Passant" is my favourite but is too understated for her, the emphasis is in music and lyrics.

 

However, I think she will cover the French version of "Let's Talk About Love".

I'm OK with raw vocals, I actually like it when it doesn't sound polished. I love JJG as a songwriter and I'd be happy with whatever Celine sings as long as it was written by him.

Let's talk about love is one of her best songs. I'd like to hear her french version 25 years later with a different voice and a different approach to music.

 

For those who know the JJ Goldman catalogue what are the songs he's written for Celine that sounds much like his own song? By reading the last posts I can say Je Lui Dirai and Sur Le Meme Bateau (which is without any doubt a masterpiece).

Yes it is... not a very big fan of that cover though. But it's safe to say these songs won't be on the second album:

Would love to hear her cover Helene ... they've sung it together before and she sounded brilliant, and it would really suit her current voice

Would be nice to hear song Helene by Céline but it´s Roch Voisine song so it´s not possible to be on this album.

C’est le seul album sur lequel il y aura Céline Dion d’ici deux ans, elle a accepté de le faire pour nous.

 

So there won’t be a new Céline album (or album featuring Céline) for at least another 2 years?

The best is yet to come...

Nice, maybe now the chances are high for this song to be finally performed live in concert :) I always loved the song

oh :hmm: I wonder what the hell they could do to a new version?! Updated lyrics? Uptempo? Orchestral? What is the point?

This reminds me of when she would re-record Ma Chambre for Jean-Pierre Ferlands album, but that didn't happen, cos she was sick at the time. Will we just end up with the 1995 version? :doh:

La Memoire d’Abraham is an incredibly beautiful song. As mentioned above, hopefully there is now a chance it will be performed live.

Yeah mine too prob. It would be a different case if she re-recorded Chercher Encore!! :wub2: Of which I will never understand why it wasn't performed live, nor a single!

That she even remembered that song.

I bet she didn't even recorded a new version but they will use her vocals or a different take 🤣

 

Though I love love this song, same for Cherche Encore, unfortunately both never performed live
