Celine Dion denies sending Angelina Jolie gender-neutral clothing for her kids

 

Celine Dion’s kids clothes don’t come in stereotypical pinks and blues.

 

 

By Gossip Cop quoted Dion’s spokesperson, who said, “Celine and/or Celinununu did not send Angelina Jolie any Celinununu items.”

 

Radar Online, citing “an insider,” said Jolie liked to dress her children in the Celinununu clothes because “she likes the designs but also because she respects where Celine is coming from.” Radar Online also said the actress and director feels the gender-neural clothes are “perfect” her six children.

In November, Grammy-winning singer Celine Dion took time away from touring, performing in Las Vegas, preparing a new album and rearing her three children, ages 8 to 17, to launch a unique gender-neutral clothing line for children.

At the time, the Canadian diva said the aim with her an insider told Radar Online. Jolie has six children with estranged husband Brad Pitt: Maddox, 17; Pax, 14; Zahara, 13; Shiloh, 12; and 10-year-old twins Vivienne and Knox.

 

“There’s a message Celine is trying to send out there about overly gendered apparel,” an insider told Radar Online.

Jolie, 43, “has never pushed her kids into wearing clothes they don’t want to, and she’s encouraged them to fight for gender self-determination and combat gender norms that are both coercive and harmful,” the insider added.

“Some say this is simply a vanity project for Celine, but Angelina will be glad to see the line take off because it underlines her own beliefs,” the insider said.

Dion, 50, said she had tried to stay away from gender stereotypes while raising her 8-year-old twin sons, Eddy and Nelson, and 17-year-old son, René-Charles. The children’s father is Dion’s late husband of 22 years, René Angélil, who died of cancer in 2016.

Dion recalled a visit to Walt Disney World with her sons when they were younger. She said she expected them to look for the “big superheroes” at the theme park. But no, she said, “They were looking at princesses. And they all wanted to be Minnie Mouse.”

She said her sons taught her a lesson about how they needed to grow up. “I end up saying to myself, ‘You know what, it’s OK.’ You know why it’s OK? Because they’re talking, they’re finding themselves.”

 

Dion launched her clothing line with a rather dramatic video, showing her entering a hospital and magically changing newborns’ pink and blue outfits into blacks and whites — and then getting arrested. She created with her line with the children’s boutique brand NUNUNU, which specializes in unisex designs, the Huffington Post reported.

 

It’s true that the some 70 items in the Celinununu mostly come in neutral grays, whites and blacks, though there are a few items in bold red.

“There’s nothing wrong with the blues, pinks, yellows, grays, blacks, whites. I love all colors,” Dion told CNN. “It’s not because I think everyone should be dressed in black and white. … It’s about giving them freedom. Freedom of expression. Getting away from stereotype. Giving them the opportunity, before they speak, they already have a voice.”

 

Dion encourages parents to raise their children in the way they see fit: “You have to decide what’s right for them. We’re just proposing another way to take away the stereotype.”

So I've been following Rahaf Mohammed on Twitter (if the name doesn't ring a bell, she's the young woman who made front pages all over the world after a dramatic escape from Saudi Arabia, and was eventually granted asylum in Canada).

 

She just posted this - which reminded me of this thread. (If you translate, it's the same Kahlil Gibran poem Celine referenced in the Celinununu ad.)

It's been referenced in some of the press coverage around Celinununu release, but I don't think we ever posted it here.

So here goes:

I googled Paris Fashion Week though and it doesn't start until Feb 25, so are there other fashion shows that lead up to PFW, that are considered part of PFW or something? I know nothing about this stuff. LOL.

 

The "Fashion Week" comes in 3 parts: Men's (which was Jan 15-20), Haute Couture (Jan 21-24) and Women (Feb 25-March 5). And then there's Kids Fashion Week (mid February)
