Yes. This year’s show will take place Monday, December 5 at the Kings Theatre in Brooklyn, New York and will have a holiday theme. In other words, it’ll literally be snowing divas!

 

VH1 Divas started in 1998 and it has since honored legends like Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, and Mariah Carey for their contributions to pop culture. The last show in 2012 featured performances from Miley Cyrus, Demi Lovato and Ciara among other powerful female artists. Who will we get this year? Stay tuned!

Yes, is always about Mariah and Whitney, it is annoying how they underestimat Celine all the time.

But the funny thing is, that Celine was the first Diva who was invited to the Divas Live concert.

Producer Ken Ehrlich struck gold with team-up specials

 

In the late ’90s, women ruled the pop charts, but it took Ken Ehrlich to unite the performers and usher in a new Era of the Diva.

 

Nearly 20 years later, the inaugural edition, which aired live from New York’s Beacon Theater, still stands out for Celine Dion, the first artist who officially signed on to appear.

 

“To me, the show felt like a very important career moment,” she says. “I mean I had the chance to share the stage with these amazing ladies … Gloria Estefan, Mariah Carey, Shania Twain, Carole King, and the one and only Aretha Franklin, who was one of my idols growing up. This was such an huge honor for me. Those were special moments that I’ll never forget.”

 

For Dion, who went on to work with Ehrlich on a number of TV specials and the second edition of her Las Vegas residency at Caesars Palace, “Divas” remains a highlight for its collective platform of female talent. “I don’t think any of us would have called ourselves ‘divas,’ ” she says, “but it was a fun way to bring us all together and show a little bit of ‘girl power’ on stage.”

 

This concert is also special for me, it was the first time a saw Celine live on TV (MHWGO was amazing ).

So the Rogers Cup women's tennis tournament is starting in Montreal tomorrow. Apparently finalists get Celine tickets. And apparently last year's US Open finalist Roberta Vinci really wants them!

But I have been wondering for quite some time now and I thought I'd ask since a search at the forum didn't reveal a similar topic...

 

What is it about Celine Dion that made you a fan? Is it her voice? Her attitude? Her personality? The care and attention she gives her fans? The fantastic songs she's had the chance to sing?

 

I'm really curious about this because it can't just be her voice. It IS one of a kind, no doubt about that but there's more to it, right?

I will look at all of it later, but the parts of I have looked at so far:

 

-Celine said she and Rene were 50/50, and left her his 50% so now she is 100%

- Celine said to her Rene will always be the manager

The reference to the sculptor of the Greek mythology that fell in love with his creation that came into life is strong, as was the personality of Rene Angelil.

 

Angelil was the inseparable husband and manager (impresario) of the singer. He was the first one to foretell her global success even when she was a child. Rene was such an important figure in her life and career that it’s impossible to imagine a Celine Dion without a Rene Angelil pulling the strings to propel her higher and higher to the Pantheon of stars.

 

Angelil ‘bowed out’ last January and his favorite singer hasn’t wasted any time [getting back in harness] taking control of things.

 

As she usually did with him. Celine Dion has doubled her efforts, returning to the Colosseum in Las Vegas a month after his death, finishing off a French album while launching a promotional campaign and a tour that, after Belgium and France, will take her back to Quebec for a round of 17 shows that will begin on the 31st of July at Centre Bell.

 

From 50/50 to 100%

This tour, desired and planned by Rene, has seen Celine take an augmented/increased role in preparing her shows. Previously, as she was telling us in Paris last month, she didn’t get much involved in selecting the songs or their order in the show. “Because I fully trusted Rene - and I find that it wasn’t very often that he was wrong - and I never felt like telling him “Come on, you can’t do that”. And we held two ‘listening’ sessions for the album, for which Rene was present” confirms his friend Aldo Giampaolo who, even today, still considers himself the ‘co-manager’ of Celine. “For me, Rene will always be the manager. The Final Decision

Celine’s entire team agrees on that : now, in case of disagreement, it is she who has the final word. As her longtime collaborators say, this came about gradually.

Savage, the tour director and sound engineer says that Celine taking on a more active role in decision-making and offering her ideas and what she wanted to do didn’t come about suddenly just because Rene was no longer there. It came naturally, with time.

 

“Celine truly gained confidence with the show A New Day” (Las Vegas 2003-2007)” says Aucoin (video and Lighting designer). “We had the time, we were making a lot of shows and we had re-imagined [redirected] the artistic vision of the show. That’s where Celine flourished. During the Taking Chances tour, she was telling what she wanted and [we played the role of translators]. Celine sees things a lot like in cinemascope, in close-up, which is not the reality of the 20,000 people that are going to be watching the show. And we have to [translate her vision to a show that people will understand]. We use a lot of reference images that she has found: fashion looks, stuff she’s found on YouTube etc. Sometimes, this has nothing to do with show business : it might be the architecture, a sculpture or something else she likes. She brings the ideas and we exchange ideas. But the artistic direction…it’s really all about Celine”.

 

 

A guiding role [The role of a guide]

Aldo Giampaolo considers himself more of a guide for the singer, who has learned from his time in Cirque Du Soleil, the usefulness of having a ‘table of creation’.

 

“I bring people to the table. We move forward [we advance] but if there is an impasse, somebody has to make a decision. Ultimately, I push in one direction but it is she who will say yes or no. It’s her career.”

Aucoin says that it is Aldo Giampaolo who reminded the entire team that the great hit Because you Loved me needs to be in the show.

 

“In 2011, Celine didn’t want to sing My Heart Will Go On any more on recall (I assume this is when she gets called back to the stage after the end of a show?…in English this is called an ‘encore’ right LOL!) but she ended up giving in to Rene’s arguments. This time, it is her who, in one of the first reunions with her team, said that we also needed to include The Power of Love in the set list.”

 

“Suddenly, it seemed that after having ‘fought’ with Rene all these years, Rene was no longer there and she understood that she could no longer do that. It was as if she realized that while it’s nice to persist, she also needs to be realistic and do these songs”.

Ok this is funny! They're getting her ready and I guess the director says he can see up her skirt. Soooo...... Celine said she will sing until her last breath recently!! Her career is no way over for many many years to come!

 

It's great knowing she is still enthusiastic about her career after so many years.... In fact I'd go as far as to say I feel a rebirth for her career has started!
