Davey84 Posted March 17, 2016 at 06:41 PM Posted March 17, 2016 at 06:41 PM I'm about to go do that after discovering Tu Nages is a cover.... I had no idea!!!!!!!!!!!! I have always loved Tu Nages and now after listening to the original I feel like I was cheated... Céline should have recorded this with only piano like Anggun did... and she should have recorded it first! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRSowwy. But in the end, that is what makes a great song: if you love a song Céline recorded. No matter who recorded it first. 3 http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v75/daveyh84/incognito198701_zpsaaootxh1.jpgRick, ik hou van jou voor altijd!A New Day... has come 28/29 April & 2/3 May 07Antwerpen 13 et 14 mai,Paris 24 et 25 mai, Amsterdam 2 juinet Arras 7 juillet Chances Taken!!!How Do You Keep The Music Playing? - Celine Opening Night March 15th, March 16th
rhapsodion Posted March 17, 2016 at 07:04 PM Posted March 17, 2016 at 07:04 PM Oh that is actually quite interesting! I never knew that! On Angela's album the song is called Just Have A Heart. Oh oh oh the cover, never spread your legs girls! It's not very lady like! http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/81EFAtaftpL._SL1424_.jpg I can't find an audio tho. Well IMO Incognito is still very original... For me completely new lyrics to a melody is quite different than covering a song word by word, note by note... I found a clip of her version here. https://pro.beatport.com/track/just-have-a-heart-original-mix/6320979
celine4evauk Posted March 17, 2016 at 07:27 PM Posted March 17, 2016 at 07:27 PM (edited) Sowwy. But in the end, that is what makes a great song: if you love a song Céline recorded. No matter who recorded it first. Agreed. For me, a cover is a song you already know by another artist. So for me it would be songs like TPOL,ABM,WIFIL, Alone etc. Not songs that were recorded by an obscure singer, that I wouldn't know about if it wasn't for this forum or the internet. 😄 That's how I try to look at it. 😆 Edited March 17, 2016 at 07:27 PM by celine4evauk 2

I just think Céline's version would have been even more amazing if it was piano only... but then it would have REALLY been a copycat of Anggun's! 1

But as you said I don't really mind. Not only I love these songs but they also served a purpose. They had something to tell and they did fit in the album. Also to get 3 covers in a tracklist of 12 is not big issue for me. Especially since Celine had offered 2 great French albums with no covers before. 1

scielle Posted March 18, 2016 at 02:25 AM Posted March 18, 2016 at 02:25 AM (edited) For me it means this: I don't mind when Celine covers a song and makes it her own. Songs like IACBTMN, ABM, TPOL etc are really different from the original, she really added something to it.But there are also covers that are nearly a carbon copy of the original, like When I Need You, At Last, Tu Nages. That adds nothing to her repertoire IMO and makes her more a karaoke singer than a real singer. Then when it comes to live shows there are so many unnecessary covers like Purple Rain, Man In The Mirror, Rolling In The Deep, Lullaby. I find them unnecessary because Celine has recorded so many great original songs that could or should be sung in that spot. I am a fan of Celine and her songs, but to me it comes across as if Celine doesn't like the songs she recorded for her albums or that she doesn't believe in those songs. And that makes me sad. When I go to see Celine in concert, I want to hear HER songs that I love, not a Prince song or a Garth Brooks song or even an Adele song, if I want to hear those songs, I'll go to their concerts. Covers are an issue when Celine adds nothing to them. And most of her covers are just Celine adding her beautiful voice to the original. I also prefer to know that songwriters created a song especially for Celine. Makes the whole process come off as more special. I mostly mind about the covers she chooses to incorporate to her live shows though. Because they just seem random and all over the place. Anyway... What Whintey did with I Will Always Love You is the best example of how a cover should be done in order to show originality and true artistic ambition. Ah, thank you. See, that wasn't so hard! And that's a line of reasoning I can get behind. Partially, at least. Agree that some of the interpretations are very close to the originals and consequently don't really offer anything new. And I suppose that tends to happen with songs that are very strongly associated with another artist and another, often iconic, interpretation. In those cases, I agree there's little point to covering them unless you're going to do something interesting. So in that sense, yeah, they can feel unnecessary. (Though I suspect it usually just boils down to Celine enjoying singing them!) That being said, there are many other covers that she absolutely does make her own. And if, at the core, they're great, well-crafted songs that are a good fit for her, then why not? There are a lot of brilliant, clever songs out there that may have been overlooked with the first interpretation and are languishing in obscurity, and I'm happy to see Celine bring them to a wider audience. I love it when my favourite artists uncover lost gems, dust them off, and breathe new life into them. And it doesn't matter that the song may have been written decades ago, or written and / or recorded by somebody else - if it's a solid piece, if it resonates with the performer, if it rings true, I'd much rather have that than mediocre original material. There are lots of random, obscure songs I love but don't necessarily care for the songwriter's original interpretation. And every now and then I think, "oh, that's such a perfect Celine song, she could do it way better than this". If it had been performed and produced differently, it could be so much more than it is. I think that in this case, the L.V. sign is probably referring to the fact that they are in Las Vegas in the photo. Celine and Rene's special sign just happens to have the same initials as Las Vegas. LOL.

LeChauffeur100 Posted March 19, 2016 at 06:55 AM Posted March 19, 2016 at 06:55 AM I had a Celine dream last night. Yay. For some reason there was a small stage in the square near my home and Celine was standing there surrounded by some trees. It was night and she was wearing the black dress from her Vegas show. She was just like an angel, there was a spotlight coming from the sky illuminating her, which made her dress shine beautifully and she was holding a wireless mic, although there was no band - it was just Celine. It was visually really stunning. I was the only one in the "audience" and as I came close to her she started singing a song I can't recall, but it was a slow song accompained by a piano instrumental that I have no ideia where it came from. Then when it ended I started thinking something like "it would be so amazing if she sang I Got Nothing Left now!". And then as if she had read my mind she started singing the first words of the song and I was blown away. For this song she had the album instrumental playing and it was so beautiful and emotional. After that, it ended. I can say it was one of the most magical dream I've ever had... And when I woke up I Got Nothing Left was stuck in my head all day long. I've never cared much about the song but now it feels so different listening to it... 5 EVERYONE AFRAID TO BE FORGOTTEN - album & film by ionnalee; out NOW at ionnalee.comhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gF-8uJUpL5A
