So strange… I wonder why?

Because she is viewed as an AC albums/tours artist rather than a mainstream singles artist, and because her team did a lousy job promoting her social media. Her fan base is also a bit older so they might not use Spotify as much as they use FB and YT. Shame really because she has such a strong catalogue.

 

Another thing IMO is that her English discography lacked a clear direction after ANDHC and this really showed during the LMBTL era when there were delays, serious indecisiveness regarding the content and what audience they were aiming at, questionable vocals, and a final mixed bag of an album that left the impression of an incomplete project.

It consists of songs from that artist but also similar artists and songs from that genre (and your play history). So with FIY that playlist could be filled with Cher, Faith Hill, Shania, Twain, Lara Fabian, Mariah and Whitney.

 

BUT more than once, when I played a Lara Fabian album for instance, in that playlist I get singers like Mariah, Whitney, but also Maurane, Isabelle Boulay etc. HOWEVER Céline isn't in it. And I really wonder why that is?! I mean Céline and Lara are very similar, so why isn't Céline part of Lara's automatic playlist??

 

Another example is with the blend mix by Spotify with my husband. I listen to Céline a lot on Spotify, but in these blend playlists she is hardly ever present! And if she is, it would be Superwoman or Sous Le Vent, songs she is a guest artist....

 

Do others experience this too?

 

It's like Céline is even ignored by Spotify! Could this also have to do with record companies "buying" these automatic streams for certain artists? If Céline isn't featured much in automatic playlists, but Madonna, Mariah etc. are, then of course their monthly listeners are bigger too.

Didn't Sony buy radioairplay for Mariah in the 90s? I think, it's the same with Spotify nowadays.

Outdated sources i think, even the fact that the album itself has sold over 17M copies worldwide a year ago according to a French Television show and still Wikipedia stating that the album has sold 10M lol

I listen through Spotify. I was thinking about it and Spotify biggest markets are Europe, North America and Latin America, in that order, with the latest two being very close in numbers. All other regions of the world combined only comes close to Latin America numbers.

 

That being said, Celine is big on Europe and North America, but she seems very weak in Latin America, which seems understandable cause she never care much about us in here. Wasn’t a market they target for her. Celine focus was on Asia, Africa and Australia.

 

Problem is, Latin America is the place to be specially if you are an older artist, their ageism is not as strong as in Europe or US. Prove of that is Shakira, who begins her career in the early 90 and this year alone was twice on top of the most listening songs on Spotify in the whole world, achieving billions of streams, today she is the #5 Spotify artist, with more than 80 million monthly listeners. I highly doubt it Shakira is a bigger name on US than Celine, maybe in Europe they’re equals.

 

In my guess, It’s lack of Latin America’s support that it’s making difference on Celine’s streaming numbers on that platform.

Thats the problem, Céline's fans are very diverse in terms of streaming platforms, they don't use common Spotify or something. Which is not a big problem, cuz her numbers of Spotify is okay-ish

I listen her music on youtube and cd's. I had Spotify a couple of years ago. I was looking for Wicked Game song and I have listened this song only twice. .. Since then I don't know what was wrong that It doesn't work well, I couldn't listen the song anymore. I made a list but... Nothing.

I don't know if just happened because I had free account. Of course that I would like to listen to her on spotify to support her music and to keep increasing her numbers.

Anyway I hope they upload TYLAM music video too as they did with the amazing MHWGO days ago
