Kate Bush's RUNNING UP THAT HILL (from 1985) is currently # No 1 in the UK and # No 4 in Germany due the Netflix serie Stranger Things.

I wish TC had pushed IT'S ALL COMING BACK TO ME NOW more.

 

That Stranger Things sync is a result of two years of work on the part of her label’s sync team. And they’re still actively working with Netflix to monetize it.

 

The recent IACBTMN syncs (e.g. that Extra commercial, which reportedly is in the running for the Cannes Lions, and clearly the renaming of Text For You) means Sony’s sync team is doing its job. Hopefully we’ll see more uplift once the movie comes out. But you can’t bank on every such sync to hit the bull’s eye and the popular zeitgeist like the Kate Bush / Stranger Things example. That really is an outlier.
