So I just got back from a fabulous Coeur de Pirate show, and guess who else was there :-D

In case you missed previous posts re Liz Plank: go here and here, for eg. (And Coeur de Pirates Instastory currently has a pic of them together!)

Anyway, the larger point being: if Coeur de Pirate, who 99.999999% of America never heard of, can fill venues in New York and Boston with an entirely French show, with basically no promo, then surely Celine can, too. Hopefully once she's out of her Vegas contract, she can give some thought to doing that.

There were of course people there who spoke French, but also plenty who definitely didn't. And you know what? It totally didn't matter. The crowd was awesome and clearly loved it. Beatrice spoke mostly in English between songs, but 90% of the material was in French (though she certainly could have done an English show; she has plenty of English songs).

And yes, the pre-show music playing over the P.A. featured Celine. (But no surprise, we know Beatrice is a fan :))

For fellow Beatrice fans, looks like someone already has

. She's such a talent. And hilarious, too. Edited by scielle

"In a couple of videos that have surfaced on social media, we can see the arrangements in place for last night's event. In video shows an all-woman orchestra as they play various instruments and guided by a conductor. All the musicians are dressed in beautiful pink dresses as they play the most famous Celine Dion song. The song in question is none other than 'My heart will go on', the song from the James Cameroon classic 'Titanic'. Of course, no wedding ceremony is complete without this romantic number, either in the form of a song or an orchestral rendition."

Would be a great idea! A few one nights only would be awesome.

I think it doesn't matter what language will be sung. It's about the music.

And when celine sings in French it's a different world.

I think a lot of the Americans never had the privilege to see a all French show of her.

I think it's preposterous that so much of her French music is not even available in the US. Like, so many things that are hardly obscure, are nowhere to be found in America. You have to actively seek them out and jump through all sorts of hoops. It's as if they're actively trying to deny the existence of her French career.

And thing is, language barriers are becoming much less of "a thing" in the streaming world. So much of play-listing is about mood; the language becomes secondary.

There's this great article that summarizes this effect rather well -

“When you say, ‘One, two, three, four,’ it’s not about the language. It’s about the music.”

That’s increasingly true because streaming, which has disrupted all parts of the music industry—even one that seems to operate in another era, with its vedettes and chansons and booming CD sales—has diffused the difference between English and Québécois songs.

“Because of streaming, [for] a lot of people, it won’t matter what language the song is in,” says Camille Poliquin, of the electropop duo Milk & Bone. “Half of the songs I listen to in English, I don’t understand the words cause of the vocal treatment. I can find out the meaning afterwards if I want to.”

Indeed, American writer David Turner recently opined that the streaming app’s incredibly popular playlists focus on curating experiences rather than music, and mood-setting doesn’t need to abide by laws of language. “There are some Francophone songs that show up on Spotify and Apple Music on English playlists,” notes Groulx."

And the same is now true for film & TV. Read this article, for instance.

People are watching lots more foreign language content.

A lot of this is thanks to streaming, and I wish Team Celine would recognize that.

A bigger infusion of her French & English careers would be wonderful! Her international success and bilingual career is what sets her apart from the other big Divas.

She should include French songs on her upcoming English album.

Maybe even one song with French & English lyrics.

True these days series and films are not always in English.

And I you take a look at my playlist, it has all different kind of languages.

If the music is good, if I feel the mood I don't care in which language it is.

Talking about her French career, I really thought that when they released EUS and she was on those American TV shows that she would at least sing the titelsong. Would been a great opportunity to showcase her other career.

Well, she was on the Tonight Show at just the right time. Jimmy was out there flashing the EUS cover 'n' all, talking about her new album... and what did she do?

Went and sang The Show Must Go On...

Including more French material is such an easy way for her to keep things fresh and uniquely her own when it comes to her English career!

And it could be a way for her to promote the album to both her English speaking and French speaking audiences!!! #albumsales

I've been wishing for more of a French/English mix for ages but I am just whistling in the wind. She had the perfect platform to do so in Vegas.

the emotion isn't quite like Celine is capable of singing but it was amazing nonetheless.

She was a member of the girl group, Fifth Harmony, and was on the X Factor in the U.S.

Between Jessie J earlier this year, and now Dimash (who I am hearing sing for the first time), MHWGO is getting a new wind.

Celine will always sing it best but I love seeing such big talents show love for Celine by singing her songs so powerfully.

Does he call it "unfortunate" because he's modest and felt uncomfortable when they would ask him about this quote? I didn't understand that part well

Yes, he's just being coy.

Dan Levy (star of Schitt's Creek, son of comedy legend Eugane Levy) -

https://www.cbc.ca/c...creek-1.4945038

'For now, Levy is ready for a well deserved break, starting his holidays in Los Angeles, and ending them with an epic trip.

For New Year's Eve, "I'm going to go see Celine Dion in Vegas and then I'm going to drive to the Grand Canyon," he says.

"I need to get my Canadian fix somehow, and it's coming this year in the wonderful presence of Celine Dion, Canadian royalty."'

Celine replied. And Ariana got involved, too.

Quite a few press outfits picked it up at the time.

nice, thanks.

I don't follow Nicki, didn't expect her to be a fan of Celine. I love how many of current popular artists are fans of hers.

"Chronicling Céline Dion's phoenix-like resurgence and ascent from scapegoat to quirky matron saint of pop"

I still can't believe people ever dislike/d her. That was one of the biggest surprises when I became a hardcore fan (next to her being so funny, and French-Canadian :giggle: ).
