I know but I don't think it's really sunk in for many of us yet. I know it hasn't for me. I still feel like she'll be back in a few months. I guess after what a good 8 years that's what's been drilled into my brain.

I saw the show “Celine” 45 times. Starting way back and ending with the final show. I was fortunate enough to see everything from the Jackson medley, to the bond Bond medley, to the Prince medley, to the duet with herself, to Immortality with and without aisle walks, No Me Quitte Pas, Rolling In The Deep, the duet with Stevie, the duet with Andrea, encores of Over The Rainbow, encores of I Can’t Help Falling In Love With You, and everything between.

 

Reading some of the posts here is disheartening. I would like to share my thoughts.

 

First, I think a lot of you have an idea about Celine that might no longer be true. The Celine of the 1990s is no more. She has stated this several times, and I don’t think it can be emphasized enough - she said she no longer has anything to prove to anyone. And she also said (in regards to You’re The Voice, but also applicable generally I would think) that she will do a song if she likes it. So the constant criticism on here about her covers, or her not getting new music out fast enough, or it not being good enough.. I think this is something we all need to drop. She’s not working on anyone’s timeline here but her own. Before I started really reading this forum I thought all fans felt like me - happy to see her doing so well when she is “past her prime”. She is still performing circles around artists half her age. I personally don’t mind what she’s singing - I just want her to sing. Also, and I might be alone here, but I do not like her studio recordings. For as much as I love her, I only watch YouTube live videos. I don’t stream or buy her music, as I don’t care much these days for her 90s voice and I don’t care at all for the studio effects.

 

There was some discussion of songs earlier in this thread. People discussed what they wanted to throw out. Here’s my list and why:

 

TPOL - trash it. Only the first verse is live these days, and the song is just not that good IMO.

 

BYLM - go back live or trash it. This song is now also not performed live except for the last part where she always ask you to sing along. It’s not a difficult song to sing, so if she’s phoning it in then she must also be over it.

 

IACBTMN - Go live or trash it. I hate this one, though I think it would have serious potential. But she stopped singing this live a long time ago, so I am inclined to think again that she is over it.

 

ABM - trash it. Just trash it. For a good portion of this show, only the big climax note was not live. Now she is live from the beginning to just before the climax, for a run after the climax, and then back to lipping for the final note. This is a tough song vocally, even for her young voice. She is still perfectly capable of hitting the notes, but she chooses not to (and for good reason, I’m sure).

 

RDMH/LCMM - interestingly these two are often met with scorn on the forum but she is singing these live. I don’t hate either song and she always sounds great, but I would be okay with them leaving.

 

MHWGO - this is a mix of live some, lipped some, full live, full lipped, it has varied. And I realize this may be an unpopular opinion but if I never heard this song again, it would be too soon. By far my least favorite Celine song. Perhaps her least favorite as well.

 

Personally I would like to hear her sing stuff like Think Twice, Colour Of My Love, Misled, and I enjoy her covers. I usually prefer Celine’s versions to the original. It’s a running joke between my friends and I because if Celine even sings a phrase from a song, I refer to it as a Celine song from then on. Drives my friends nuts!

 

Back to this residency. I wish that someone from her team had been more aware that the final shows were full of people like myself who have likely been more than once, who love her and her music. A lot of the scripted stuff was always aimed as though she believed people just happened by the box office just before the show and are giving it a try. That was probably never really true, but it certainly wasn’t true the last two nights.

 

I don’t think she ever seemed to not be enjoying herself. All 45 shows I saw, she seemed present and happy. She never gave me the impression of boredom or burnout.

 

I went to Vegas about 3 times a year for a long time seeing this show.. to the point Vegas felt like a second home. Leaving it on Sunday, I knew I wouldn’t be back - unless she is. I know a lot of you are glad this is over, but for me it still feels like a loss. I knew where to find her and could see her pretty much whenever. The Vegas show was not Celine at her best, it was a.. well, Vegas show. But it was fun. And stable. And intimate. And I’ll miss it. If she returns, it will be strange to see her at another venue that is not the house she built.

We probably have met in the aisles throughout the years. I agree with everything you have stated. I love her voice now.

Lol I like your assessment of her songs but we know she will never trash them. I thought I was the only one who felt that way about MHWGO!

Oy! That's worse then us we got in at midnight. I wasn't even in bed till 2am and I was absolutely dead. Even my flight into Vegas was brutal 5am departure time from Vancouver. My body still hasn't fully recovered. I think i was more tired from the trip then relaxed haha

 

Meanwhile for those curious the Red Heads messaged me and told me why they didn't put up the part with FOMO and YTV from the live stream. As Tiago mentioned he too had issues due to copyright

 

 

Time to take a bit of a break it's been crazy intense in my life for the past 4 weeks now but I will check back in through the week to see if any additional footage or news has emerged and of course very excited to see the video and audio from the wonderful CelineDionForeverNY

Considering we do know the show was taped(as in the residency ) I have now begun wondering why did they end up shelving the 2017 tour I mean they obviously had plans to do something with it but what happened?? Truly I’d love to hear people’s differing opinions on this.

 

 

I hope this time it’s released whether you liked the residency or not you have to admit it was iconic would be a shame to not have Rene and Celine’s final musical project on DVD atleast in my eyes.

At this point the filmed show was not at all "celine and rene's last project"...im slightly rounding here but basically we had 4 years each of two different setlists and one year for a third set, which happens to be the set filmed. VERY DISAPPOINTING! They literally filmed the tour setlist minus songs, they didn't really film the Vegas show if you think about it. They might have filmed a concert in las vegas, that's the extent of it.

 

I'm not one for calling for things to be shelved but i sure hope this never sees the light of day. I don't think ill ever be able to buy or watch it without a bitter feeling for what i would have much preferred.

Someone else said this earlier in the thread but if you think about it I doubt anyone who isn't a super hard core fan has actually seen the Tokyo show and that wasn't even released on dvd it was just shown on tv and not internationally. People seem to keep taking my words out of context. When I say Celine and Rene's final musical project I'm not talking specifically of the setlist or whatever but the residency as a whole. It was Rene who put it together it was his vision the whole colosseum was his vision and again he was the one who extended it till 2019. Yes the songs have changed so have the costumes but weren't many of us complaining last year we wanted a change in terms of outfits and setlist. Some suggested she sing more of her own songs. Then when they did the tour and did a run through during the final two shows in June of last year most of the forum went absolutely nuts saying this should be the Vegas show I clearly remember that. Now people here seem to have done a 180 and I honestly don't get it. Shows change especially long standing shows or else the audience gets bored.Even AND had some changes.I'm sure Rene knew to some extent Celine would end up making some changes to the show he was a business man and an incredibly smart one so I'm sure he expected changes. I will be honest I was in love with the original version of the show even the first revamp I loved. But at this point after what I saw on the screens during the Wednesday show while it was being filmed it gave it a whole new energy. The colosseum looked amazing and it was the first time I could visualize it on dvd whereas with Tokyo I was just like what were they thinking. I have to state the difference in camera angles between the Colosseum and Tokyo show made a huge difference from what I noticed. We still don't know in what context the footage will be used maybe in the end we will get some sort of dvd documenting the journey of the residency and as a bonus also release the final shows. I was upset the 2017 tour wasn't released. Did I love it if I'm being honest not hugely but I wanted something anything at that point we haven't gotten any sort of proper dvd/blu ray release since 2014. I realize they may not even go down that route they may do a special that airs on Netflix or HBO or something. I don't care I just hope it's well done and this time is shown internationally because the Tokyo show was not and if it wasn't for some our lovely members who recorded and shared it I don't think many of us here would have seen it at all.

I think everyone is entitled to their opinions, good, bad, ugly. But the one takeaway an outsider reading this forum would have is 50% of the fans complain about any given thing.

 

I believe I have read many times from multiple sources that basically every show was recorded. There is plenty of footage to include all the different set lists. My concern isn’t that they only recorded one night recently - my concern is that when/if they do release it, it will be dubbed with polished up vocals. I love her live, even when her voice is not perfect. She’s just so musical.

Last question before I head out but alot of people have been asking me whether the sign displayed outside the Colosseum means for sure that it can be used for dvd purposes because it didn't specifically state " for dvd or commercial purposes" whereas the one at O2 arena mentioned Tv/DVD. I honestly don't know how these signs work but maybe someone with more knowledge can help me out.

Well if anything is ever released you know this will happen. It always does. At first I thought it only happened with J Productions but we just heard it again with the FOMO video. I,like you, prefer the imperfections but I understand why they do it.

I keep coming back to it -- reflecting on Celine's entire career. Feeling sentimental. The photos are so lovely --- the ones of her visiting when they were constructing the colosseum and then photos of the boys as they grew up in Vegas. She literally raised her family in Las Vegas. That is a true ENTERTAINER!! She was born to be on the stage. No one will ever come close to what she's accomplished. Lady Gaga offers something entirely different. Other legendary vocalists like Whitney Houston and Barbra Streisand were also born with spectacular voices but the difference is Celine Dion was born to be on the stage. That's where she feels alive and that's why she has been able to perform night after night after night after night. She is one of a kind, and I'm thrilled to see so many articles circulating about how she paved the way in Vegas -- joining the ranks of Elvis and the Rat Pack -- and nobody can ever deny that or take it away from her.

 

Ending her last show with Over The Rainbow is so touching. That final moment -- with the photo of Celine & Rene really gets me. They built such a legendary career together and now she's "flying on her own" into the next phase -- truly on her own but with Rene watching over her and the boys.

 

Okay, I think I've finally processed that Vegas has ended. Thrilled for everything that's coming her way and our way!

 

But can y'all imagine if she WASN'T going on tour / releasing a new album??! And she was just ending her show after all these years and then going into hiding?? Watching these clips from the final Vegas show would be devastating, and I don't think I'd be emotionally strong enough to handle it.
