By the way, the Celine Dion from Tunde Olaniran's PBS special is now on YouTube:

They are American of Nigerian background (Celine very popular there) and they're also from Flint, Michigan---known for the water crisis they had. It is nice to see someone emerge so talented and driven from that town that went through a lot of struggle.

Tonight both finalists on Star Académie Québec sang a song by Céline: Vole and Je t'aime encore.

Both songs are back on iTunes Canada!

Love to see Vole get its moment. And interesting that it is the one people gravitated more towards.... but I think people cannot help be more supportive of the one that makes them cry!

I personally find “Et je t’aime encore” more emotional even though I prefer “Vole” as a song.

Wow! So glad to finally see Celine recognized in this way! I know she already has an honorary PhD from Laval, but Berklee is basically the Harvard of contemporary music, so this is real recognition from peers.

"From the campus in Boston and various remote locations around the world, a group of student performers representing the class of 2021 will unite as a collaborative virtual ensemble to perform a multigenre tribute to the honorees from the College. The prerecorded tribute will air on Friday, May 7, at 7:30 p.m. ET on Berklee's YouTube channel.

 

Berklee College of Music's commencement ceremony will stream the following day, May 8, at 10:00 a.m. ET, on the school's social media channels. Boston Conservatory at Berklee's commencement ceremony will stream on the same date at 2:00 p.m. ET."

Maybe we're getting a performance finally after all this time!!

 

Well, if they do what they did last year, she may have a line or two in the student-performed medley. (I posted last year’s concert earlier in this thread if you want to get an idea).

Oh you're right. I just remember Annie Lennox singing a ton in her speech a few years ago, maybe Celine would do the same---we know her personality! But she probably won't be chosen to give the address.

 

It will be really fun to hear the arrangements that the students came up with.....maybe they will give Scott some ideas loll

According to the program for tonight, they’re performing a BATB, TTWII, IACBTMN, PQTME, MHWGO, To Love You More, Courage, POL medley.

 

Oh, and the entire concert is called Power of Love. 🙂

Well, that was pretty cool! I'm glad they acknowledged her French career. Could have used better photos for the intro, but hey, the music was great. Nice to see her songs done by a bunch of talented kids who were all born after Titanic.... (man, we're old!)

Yes, I was expecting they would since a lot of students from all over the world attend the school. But it was nice to see that it was actually done.

 

I think my favorite part was hearing the students arrangements of the songs, especially the BATB intro in the beginning and then Courage!

Also, it's great seeing IG stories with these kids - in their matching graduation regalia - posing by their TVs with Celine on them. :) Making the best of a crappy situation!

No, Susan Rogers gave the initial address. She's a producer & engineer (notably, on Prince's Purple Rain.)

In 2004, she came to McGill to study music cognition and psychoacoustics under the aegis of the renowned Daniel Levitin and Stephen McAdams. (Hey, I took a cognition class with Daniel Levitin during my time at McGill, too! He wrote some really cool books about music and neuroscience, including the best-seller This is Your Brain on Music. He's now an accomplished academic, but in his former life was sound engineer for the likes of Santana, The Grateful Dead, etc :) )

 

 

Maureen McMullan is the one who introduced Celine.

"A Scottish soprano, songwriter, arranger, and bandleader trained in both classical and contemporary music, McMullan is widely recognized for her versatility. She has sung professionally in diverse genres including jazz, pop, folk, musical theater, R&B, and oratorio, with performances spanning stage, theater, festivals, television, studio, and radio."

I’m very shocked and a little upset that Celine choose NOT to post this achievement onto her social media pages.

It’s a great honor and achievement that should be noticed. Yet we will continue to get those stupid trivia games.

Well, she posted about it when in was first announced, but yeah, I agree.
