Nmj Posted February 27, 2016 at 02:31 AM Posted February 27, 2016 at 02:31 AM To be fair, since 2009 Barbra has released three studio albums, 1 album of unreleased tracks, and 2 live albums. Totaling six albums. Barbra also has all the creative control of her albums down to the font on the back. Celine simply puts her voice on a recording. Vegas is great, but as far as her legacy is concerned it has killed her discography. And that's great, but I think Celine has performed more concerts in 1 year of her Vegas residence than Ms. Streisand has performed in her whole career. Barbra has said herself that she prefers to be in studio versus stage, and Celine has said the complete opposite. 3 Quote
LukeD Posted February 27, 2016 at 03:01 AM Posted February 27, 2016 at 03:01 AM Well, Britney Spears was banned from mainstream radios in her early 30's, Mariah Carey was banned at 39 and the late Whitney Houston was banned in her mid 30's...But Celine is the only one to be banned while having a healthy career and status. 1 Quote
Tyler1991 Posted February 27, 2016 at 03:10 AM Posted February 27, 2016 at 03:10 AM I love the opening song now. It has a great message. Celine chose it, and most importantly, that's the only thing that matters now. I understand people don't like covers, but it's a great song and she is showing more voice and emotion in that song than we've seen in years on any other English song. Aaaaand, she hasn't sang a song that long since IACBTMN in 96 or 97 so that's kinda cool! 7 Quote
scielle Posted February 27, 2016 at 03:21 AM Posted February 27, 2016 at 03:21 AM (edited) New article from Montreal Gazette. Reporter spoke to Aldo:http://montrealgazet...of-rene-angelil Really enjoyed that article, best one written about Celine in quite some time. But then Brendan Kelly always wrote thoughtfully about her, and I think he has said some striking things here. "he’s suddenly single for the first time in her adult life. When she goes home after performing at the Colosseum in Caesars Palace, once her staff departs, she’s on her own."Of course we all knew that, but it's still pretty sobering to see in print. It's a whole new day-to-day life for her and that is scary in an of itself, and trying to live the reality of that in the public eye even more of an uncharted territory. "But it is a new world sans Angélil, and it’s bound to be a different Céline we see and hear in the years to come." [...]'“He built Céline. He built the Ferrari. I just have to drive it. I have to guide it with the best of my knowledge, with Céline giving me the OK.” But what if one day — maybe soon — Céline leans over to Aldo in the Ferrari and says, “Hey buddy, how about we pull over and switch seats, and I’ll give this baby a spin through the streets of Vegas?”'I think Brendan is right there. The critical tide is already starting to turn, and Celine is being given more credit than she ever was in the past. I think this is a sign of more good things to come. (i just worry Aldo will go and ruin it all with his pots & pans thing! Noooo!) An apt analogy with the Ferrari reference. I just hope Celine does more of the driving than Aldo, especially given some of the things he's thinking of (kitchenware? really?!?!?!) "But what if Dion comes to Giampaolo and suggests they do something radically different for the next English album, due out in 2017? I asked Giampaolo what he thought of the idea — which I’ve mulled over for years — of having Dion do an English album like D’eux: a set of songs from a noted songwriter, tailored specifically for her. I’m dreaming here, but maybe do it with Elvis Costello or Randy Newman or Paul McCartney."Yes, yes, yes! Best thing I've read in a while. A full album of Celine singing Elvis Costello songs sounds like a dream come true in my books, and in fact a dream I've shared with Mr Kelly for a while (Yes, I've thought about it too! Elvis can write the most brilliant songs in any genre and I'd love Celine to sing some of them.) But I fear it's a looooong shot. Too bad. But oh, how lovely would it be to have an English version of an album like D'eux... one can dream. '“You can when you have a young artist,” he said. “But when you have an established artist, you have to be very careful. You can’t disappoint the fan base.”' [...]"One thing Giampaolo, Angélil and Dion had been discussing was pushing the Céline brand into non-musical areas, and that is going to happen. Negotiations are underway with a potential partner to explore opportunities, in everything from cosmetics to boutiques to clothing lines to kitchenware."Ugh. I worry about that attitude a little. I so want her to try new things and hope they're not squashed for fear of 'alienating the fan base'. Why he has no problem trying new things outside of music (clothing line? ugh, no!), yet he fears trying a different musical direction?! That disturbs me a little. I've said this before, but this entire thing sounds like a massive turn-off. If she ever does kitchenware I think she just might lose me as a fan forever. She's a singer, damn it! Let her be an artist and focus on what she does best. And that's not shilling aprons!! The idea is absolutely atrocious to me. Please Aldo, do not steer the Ferrari that way because in the eyes of many that'll be a massive car crash. Edited February 27, 2016 at 03:32 AM by scielle 1 Quote

Really? If you didn't know, Celine has written songs, acted, produced, and owned restaurants and record companies, thus making her a businessman. So now, if she launches clothing lines or home decor she's all of a sudden a lost cause? I don't get it. How can someone even say that especially at a time like this. I don't know, I guess. 2 Quote

So now, if she launches clothing lines or home decor she's all of a sudden a lost cause? I don't get it. How can someone even say that especially at a time like this. I don't know, I guess. Yes, I'm very much aware. But that doesn't change the fact that I find the idea of her slapping her name on completely unrelated things a massive turn off. Sorry, just do. Especially if it involves no creative input and consists of a third-party basically licensing her name. I didn't mind Nickels because her name wasn't really associated with it. Aside from her ownership and the Nickels name, and the fact that part of the Dion clan worked there, you wouldn't know it was Celine-related unless you were a serious fan. But putting her (well-respected!) name on commercial goods is a different story and - in my eyes at least - completely dilutes and cheapens her brand. The moment she started doing the perfume thing... well that was the beginning of the end for me. It felt less and less like she was a real artist, and I stopped listening around that time; didn't come back to the Celine fold until around mid-last year. So yeah, it took her about 12-15 years to win me back. I have nothing against artists being commercially-minded. Nay, I applaud it. But to advance their art, because that's why I listen to them/ watch them/ read them in the first place. I'm an MBA, CFA & Wall St. investment banker, so no, I don't shy away from commercialism and respect sound business sense. In fact, media & entertainment finance is what I do for a living because I firmly believe that in the day and age when everyone increasingly expects content to be free, we need artists to be commercially aware and able to monetize their creativity more then ever. But not blatant commercialism at the expense of sacrificing their artistic integrity, and this kind of thing smells very much like that. Seriously rubs me the wrong way. Anyway, getting off topic here and that wasn't the aim. Edited February 27, 2016 at 06:10 AM by scielle 1 Quote

Critiaslux Posted February 27, 2016 at 08:37 AM Posted February 27, 2016 at 08:37 AM (edited) She always acted like she was 10 years older and possibly the industry treated her like that too (she was banned from mainstream radios in her mid 30s while other female singers are banned at over 40). She also embarked on the Vegas residency, a move that would seem more proper for artists past their prime. Based on that I will not be surprised if she takes the way you suggested. She is 47 years old, so she might act as someone close to 60s. That said I only care about getting consistent albums with good vocals! I won't mind if she decides not to promote them. true. I remember in 2002 (jezzz ) while I'm Alive was played on the radio in Europe (it was quite successful in France and Germany), the song was surprisingly not played on pop radios in the USA. And since then nada. Leading singles position have all been doing worse and worse on radio and hot 100 despite their quality. Edited February 27, 2016 at 08:37 AM by Critiaslux 1 Quote

She might end up being the female artist having performed the most in history. The mighty 1000 performances in LV will be in the guiness book for sure. And globally with the Rolling Stones she is the artist having performed the most. That's something! :-) For the discography her French one is tremendous and I bet it will go on like this. In Quebec she is the Queen and in France we do not have such ageism radiowise. For the English speaking market and the USA more specifically that's another story. But I believe that if she focus her promotion more in the UK next time it could be good. The tide seems to have changed there and somehow I believe she can get a multi platinum album there again. 1 Quote

This was the case with Micheal Jackson and Whitney Houston. 1 Quote
