The René Angélil legacy

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Unless they did so outside of Twitter and I'm just not seeing it, I'm very disappointed Shania Twain, Elton John, Bette Midler, Rod Stewart and Cher haven't said anything regarding Rene's passing. If it were not for he and Celine, they would not have had their shows at Caesars Palace. Also, pretty disrespectful on both Ken Ehrlich's part and Franco Dragone's part to not post a statement yet either.

Also, I'm a bit surprised some of her duet partners such as Peabo Bryson, R. Kelly, Andrea Bocelli, Michael Buble and Frank Sinatra (his estate/people running his social media pages), to name a few, haven't posted any type of comment yet either.

Has Mego released any kind of statement, by the way?

From ICI Radio-Canada Tele's Facebook (translated from French):

This Sunday at Tout le monde en parle, Mitch Garber, Rene Simard and Claude "Mégo" Lemay unite to pay tribute to René Angélil, died of cancer on Thursday. He was the friend, the boss, the impresario, the husband, the father, the business partner, the visionary. Through all the facets of his life and his profession, he has left indelible traces in the cultural industry and, more importantly, in the lives of those who were close to him. Goodbye René!

I bet some great stories and memories will be shared

They may not have done it publicly, but no one knows what they may have done privately. They could very well have made calls to Celine and/or sent flowers. Celine and Shania are good friends, and Shania isn't super active on Twitter, I would put a lot of money on the fact that Shania has reached out to Celine privately in some way.

I noticed also that while Oprah hasn't tweeted anything, O Magazine's twitter did send condolences.

Did you really make a list and check what everyone is doing for Rene's death???? :wtf:

They might have done it personally. What probably bothers me more are those people who just post their condolences on Twitter for everyone to see  .

Very true regarding Shania. Also, if O Magazine posted something, I consider that equal to Oprah posting something. It's her magazine, after all.

I'm not going through every single celebrity account on Twitter. I don't expect people such as Kim Kardashian, Russell Crowe, Tom Hanks, Paris Hilton, etc. to post anything. However, I don't think it's expecting the world for a minor statement on those accounts I mentioned earlier. Celine had a big impact on their careers. If for no other reason, posting something would be respectful, in my opinion. If people like Alan Thicke and Gloria Gaynor can do it, I don't see why people who have had a much more personal interaction with Rene and/or Celine can't do one either.

Such a heartbreaking time. And I can't imagine anyone of Celine's songs that won't remind us of René when we hear it next time. When I heard the news I thought of Sous le vent: "Et si tu crois que c'est fini, jamais."

I appreciated the message that Garou posted last night about René:

I listened to TCOML after I heard the news, the line ''...paint my soul to be with you...'' got me. Such a true song!

Maybe they did; maybe because they had a personal interaction with her, they can send her personal condolences. It is kinda sick to check who is sending publicly their condolences or not, let alone be mad about it, especially as we cannot know what they do privately. Let's not make pointless accusations during this very sad moment.

I'm sure many celebrity friends of Celine have sent her private condolences. Oprah, for instance, is surely saddened by Rene's passing.

We'll have to agree to disagree on this one. Moving on...

Franco Dragone

Une très grande personnalité du monde du spectacle vient de disparaître. Dans mon souvenir, René Angélil restera un homme qui savait faire confiance, montrer le chemin, et ne rien imposer;

Quebec offer national funeral to Rene Angelil family : http://www.journalde...-a-rene-angelil (in French)

I wonder if Celine will accept the offer of a state funeral? They are seen as Quebec's royal couple after all. Will be interesting to see whether they opt for such a huge ceremony or something more private.

I read somewhere Rene had certain requests for his funeral, and I doubt he saw this offer coming! Chances are the ceremony will be private. Edited by LukeD

Yeah that's what I was thinking! It must be a difficult decision when something unexpected like this gets offered...

I'm so sad about this news...  :teary:

Background Info about me: I have lost two of the most important people in my life and I know how she must feel. I found both my parents dead, my mother in 2002 when I was only 8 years old. and last year my father passed away.

So I just hope she will after a long pause continue what she does best.. Sing. I haven't seen her in Las Vegas, but I really want to and I fear that, after this, she will stop. I'm really sad, I read the sad news and instantly began crying, I feel like it's her who died. :( May the man who gave Celine Dion his life rest in peace, and I hope that Celine will come through this, no matter how long it will take.

Pls. don't be disappointed. Although I don't know - but I'm pretty sure, that all these people send their condolences directly to Celine. AND THAT'S WHAT COUNTS! Pls. don't register that as a sign of disrespect if a comment isn't posted in public.

Very touching tribute just aired on The Talk. I think Sharon Osbourne summed up our sentiments very well.
