I've been on celine dion.com and clicked on the link but nothing....there's no song list or link, still nothing

On the top of the page there is a kind of 'latest news' section (a slide of a few pics, one of them says Vote), click on it and you're there.

 

I voted. I listened to all songs and got the bad feeling that Celine is being typecast or something. Most songs sound exactly like the so-called boring ballads the non-fans know her for. Just my opinion.

Some of these songs are so different. If the rest of the album has been put together so that it's a coherent record, I'd be worried to see some of these in the middle of it. I think it would be best to have this as the last song of the album, or even classified as a bonus track.

 

So far I like J'aurais voulu te dire & Ta vie. Working my through the list!

I voted for 'Et Pourtant' but it was very hard to choose, I'd say half a dozen songs which are beautiful....

We have to listen for the melody as I'm very sure they will add to the score of the song and obviously Celine's vocals will add more to the song

Wow, even if most of them are slow and are lullabye, the lyrics are so hard and almost all of them talk about death or loosing someone... so sad. But I think it will help Celine if she sings about it.

 

My favourites:

 

1- À la plus haute branche (the intro is taken from a well-known song here in Québec and the lyrics are very touching)

 

2- Comment savoir (powerful and I imagine well Céline singing it)

 

3- Que vaut ma vie (love the melody and the piano)

 

4- Et pourtant (just loving it!)

The funny and mysterious point is that 4 of the artists each have 2 songs among these final 25 songs!

I've only listened to a couple and I agree they sound a lot alike but maybe that was the kind of song that they need to fit in the album and since they are all similar they thought let the fans pick?? Don't know. It's also hard to imagine them in Celine voice for me. I will listen more on my break today.

I'm leaning towards Comment Savoir I can definitely imagine Celine singing it. They could even make it more Rock

 

I was surprised how "meh" most of the songs were, not interesting at all Sorry to say, but I prefer that fake L'âme d'un ange over most of them..

A pretty big dissapointment. Love after love and Que veut ma vie r 7.5/10 of mine. And I picked Que veut ma vie. 7/10 are Tavie, J'audrais verlu te dire, A la plus haute bronche and Et poutant.

 

Just... I wish they save the best one in their file already... if not these songs... the album wont go else where from my opinion..

Ok, after listening to all of them I can honestly say most of them are very predictable. Melody, chords, production. Nothing really stands out to me. Most of them are written certain way we all know too well... I hope only one song will make it from that list and the rest of them will be way better. Something more unpredictable and modern...

There are some that I like. Here is the ranking of my favourites:

 

1. Je te donnerai tout - Julien Assayah (nice song, uplifting and current, I really like it! Celine needs songs like this one!)

 

2. Que vaut ma vie - Christine Tosolini (nice uptempo song, really like it too! Celine needs such songs!)

 

3. Comment savoir - Jamil (I can imagine Celine singing it, adding very powerful, pure vocals to it)

 

4. Et pourtant - Marie-Claude Petit (nice balld, little boring but if they did some changes to it, it could sound nice with Celine' s voice, especially if Celine would do the background vocals herself)

 

5. J'aurais voulu te dire - Mikaël Benzekri (It's okay, has some potential and could sound good with some changes and Celine's interpretation)

Well, most of the songs remind me a lot of what she has been singing through the years. That doesn't mean that they're bad, but they're nothing new and special. My favourites are:

1) ​On a beau dire: I find it jazzy and I think Celine will like it

2) Comment savoir: A beautiful melody with nice vocals

3) Que vaut ma vie: For me, it's the best from all and I think I'm gonna vote for it!

Sorry for the long post! I was writing as I was listening...

 

I think it's kinda weird you don't have to vote through TC! I wonder how many times you can vote... just once per IP address I hope! Otherwise it could be very affected by people who will vote multiple times! Ok I accidently clicked vote and it said: Please note that you can only vote once a day. Subsequent votes will be discarded.

 

It's very difficult to really get into the songs when you don't speak or understand French fluently... I judges mostly on the melody and the words I could understand... I hope someone will convert these all to mp3 though!

 

Interesting to see Danielle Arsenault, Berny Bérubé, Jocelyn Bigras and Mikaël Benzekri got two songs on the short list! They must have thought they were very talented. I must say Jocelyn Bigras was the least talented one for me!

 

Funny thing is, that with each browser, the songs show up differently! This is how I heard them:

 

Pardonner ce retard

Weird rhythm. I can't hear Céline sing this song. It sounds very dated to me. Would need to have massive alterations in the instruments used. Sounds like a Mylene Farmer song. 4/10

 

Avant que tu ne sois seul

I like the intro. Music is nice. Hard to imagine it sung by a female with a guys voice. But I guess that will be for all demos sung by a male. It might need a bit more kick tho. 7/10

 

Je reviens vers toi

It started promising, but the songs is a bore 6/10

 

Le voilier blanc

Another guy! They all sound a bit depressing to me! LOL He reminds me a bit of Claude Dubois! LOL I think this could be a very nice ending track... I'll give it the benefit of the doubt. 7.5/10 Hmmm is this song about dying? In that case I don't know if she can handle that right now!

 

On a beau dire

This would be a very different style for Céline. She should save it for a real jazz album and go all jazz on it. for now no! 5/10

 

Ne laisse pas le temps

Oh this sounds like a very sweet song. Something subdued that can end bombastic! The ending would need some work to get a better climax! 8.5/10

 

Frère et soeur de son

The beginning seems to be for a James Bond song! LOL I like it though, it's energetic. Don't know if it's really Céline. Could be another duet with Marc 7.5/10

 

Je commence à m'y faire

I like this one. Reminds me a bit of 1F4T, Retiens-Moi... something like that. Could be better musically too, maybe more clapping along in the backings...It's a nice semi uptempo song. Not a single though 8/10

 

Dis-moi quelque chose

The intro is making me want to sing: Je vraagt of ik zin heb in een sigaret... t is twee uur s nachts... we liggen op bed.... aka a Dutch hit from the 90s. It's a nice song though. Would be very nice to have a guitare song for Céline... Could be a nice singalong during a concert 7.5/10

 

Si on passe l'hiver

The 80s have returned! Is this a left over from Incognito? I kinda like it tho! It sounds like something Partrica Kaas would sing. It could work very well with a more blues approach! I would love to hear it like that! 8/10

 

Et pourtant

Ok I think I can say I love this one. I love the quiet beginning and then the build up during the ending.... but the end end was a bit mweh. 7.5/10 like this, 9/10 with a better ending (The song reminds me of Sans Raison by Marc Dupré, could be just me though )

 

Je veux te dire

A very French song. A bit like the old classic singer, Brel or Julien Clerck? I would love to hear Céline's take on it! Could be very passionate! 8,5/10

 

J'aurais voulu te dire

Love the piano intro! I love this song too... It's a good love song! And I think Céline doesn't really have something simular in her discography yet. Could be amazing with Céline soaring over the song, maybe even with a bit of her "English" way of singing 8.5/10

 

Ne pars pas

This sounds like a Isabelle Boulay song to me. I don't think Céline would like the harmonica. It's a bit too folky for her IMO. A nice song but not for Céline. 7/10

 

Que vaut ma vie

Mika? Hmmm interesting at first notes... It's upbeat, fun, different! Totally different to something she has recorded before! I would love to hear Céline sing this! 8,5+/10 I think this is the most modern song I heard so far!

 

Au-delà du miroir

Ah the French Josh Groban! Hmm it's nice, but not jaw dropping. Some of these songs sound so early 90s eurovision! Must be the cheap instrumentals they could use to make their demos 7/10

 

Love after love

Hmmm a French song with English lyrics? I wonder how that will go down with the critics. I dunno if they add anything. I like the atmosphere of the song tho. But the ending is very abrupt. 7/10

 

J'écrirai

A very sweet song too... I guess Mikaël is talented Not as captivating as J'aurais voulu te dire though. 8/10

 

Dans ta chaleur

She has a nice voice, the music is nice too. But special no. 7/10

 

Faudra faire mieux

Was there a time frame in which these songs had to be written? this sounds like another 80s song too! This would have sounded great on DCP but 24 years later... NO! 5/10

 

Ta vie

Hmmm not bad! I like the buildup and the melody of the song too! Interesting to hear Céline's take on it! 8/10

 

Je reste là

I like the melody of this song too. It reminds me of Marc Duprés music too. I wouldn't mind if Céline recorded an album in this style. 8/10

 

Comment savoir

This sounds like Tina Arena to me. It's a nice dramatic song, but I don't think I like it that much. 7/10

 

Je te donnerai tout

Finally something upbeat and modern? I wonder if this will sound very cheesy if Céline sings it? I like the Eastern feel to the song, that should be exploited more 8/10

 

À la plus haute branche

WTF is this??? Do I want to hear Céline whistle?? I don't think so. This song is weird. Was it added cos Daniel Picard is the mentally challenged brother of Paul? Nope, aint gonna be the one. 6/10.

 

What this experience has thought me most, is that as a producer or singer you have to be able to listen to a demo and not listen to the song as is, but as it could sound like eventually! Very interesting. I do hope they'll do this too for the English album! It felt a bit like the Eurovision though... some great some mweh some really dated ones and some that makes you think WTF!

May I suggest something? When commenting on songs, feel free if it's about 4 or 5 songs but maybe it could be better to use one pattern when commenting on every song... Thus, I'd suggest, if Davey doesn't mind, to use his order of songs... He was the first one to do the whole review and it'd be easier to compare our ideas than to sift through each list that would be different... what do you say?
