believe me, i was there....it was horrible. Poor Celine. She had to be tough. Now, it is the contrary, you rarely read something bad about her. There's still some bad comments in response to articles by ordinary people, but she won...

I am going back a bit. I never thought of the album title Deux like that before, but it makes sense. I would have thought for sure she would choose Vole because of Karine, or PQTME because it's the Biggest song of her entire French career, but so interesting that she said Je Sais Pas. Makes sense, though. Now, as for the I Finally Found Someone duet, I'd never heard the song before from anyone, sol or duet, so I didn't even "think twice" about the words being weird. It does make sense now though.

I'm glad people seams to like it, it took me sooooo long to convert and specially upload lol

well, i have a lot of things saved in old dvds, i dont even remember where it came from =/

but i love TV specials and I used to save everything in dvds back at the time..

some of them arent working anymore =/ i might have some great material on it but they're old and most of them doesn't work now

Wow! I love it! Never saw it before - so interesting! They interviewed so many people you hear mentioned, but almost never hear interviewed directly -- Manon & Liette, Guy & Dodo (they're mentioned in her biography as friends in France who owned a restaurant where they spent a lot of time early in her career); Eddy Marnay talking in English (never heard that before!); David Foster talking about Dreams to Dream (he said Celine's version was spectacular! David - share it with the world!!)

 

Yeah that's what i like the most on this TV special, they interviewed close friends and the family witch is rare !

i also noticed Eddy talking in English, if im not wrong her sister as well at the beginning.. I was like

it is a great one.. i miss it, the TV specials like that..

Yeah that was interesting to find out. I guess they repaired that rift before he passed.

They are cute, but I felt kinda bad for Patrick listening to that show . . twice in it they said that Rene had 2 kids before he married Celine. Umm. . he had 3!! Little Anne-Marie was especially adorable, though.

It was interesting to hear his perspective on that time. I don't think there was ever an actual rift when they stopped speaking to each other or anything like that -- I believe that, in her biographies, they say something to the effect that Eddy never said anything to them about the change but they knew he was upset, and that Eddy didn't see her as a pop singer (but as something more traditional). And that Rene was upset at having to move away from Eddy because they both considered him like a father figure, but he felt it was best for Celine's career.

 

I didn't know that Eddy had found out from someone else, though - that must have been difficult. I think it happened that way because Rene has trouble giving bad news to people he cares about (like he said he waited 4 days to tell Celine about Dreams to Dream). Probably he just kept putting off delivering the news and waited too long.

 

But I think Eddy stayed friends with them all along . . he's in the pictures when she performed at L'Olympia in '94, and I think he was at the Stade de France concert in '99 . .and, of course, they named one of their children after him.

I was rereading her biography and noticed another interesting thing . . at the time Incognito was released in Quebec, they released Marnay songs instead in France. Incognito and Lolita were never released in France -- partly b/c Eddy thought the French public would be shocked/offended by them. And Plamondon, at the time, was upset that his songs weren't released in France. Rene couldn't win!

I did notice that they didn't mention Patrick or Rene's 1st marriage, I always feel bad too when his older children aren't mentioned. Celine and Rene never hide the fact, I think some people just don't check the facts. Anne-Marie's expression is so cute, she kind of reminds me of Nelson looks now in a way.

Yeah right!!! It's truly sad that they don't work together anymoooooore but that cannot be the reason. Celine relentlessly toured from 1996-1999 so if he was ever going to leave Sony it would've been then! Weird indeed.

Not necassarily...she was still recording albums between 96 and 99 and he was always involved in that. He said he decided to leave when Celine decided to take a break (he stepped down in 2008). Celine decided on a break after the Taking Chances Tour, and at the time there were no future albums planned to be recorded. There was probably more to his decision than just that point in Celine's career. But, if she was a big part in his decision at the time then it does make sense with her being on tour with no immediate plans to create new music.

Considering that she did name one of her sons after Eddie Marnay, I so hope they left things on good terms when he passed. She talked about him in the early days with such love and admiration. He did so much for her.

Vito says he made the decision to leave after 23 years with them. That would have been in 2003 as he joined Sony in 1980. I think he gave himself a 5 year plan when he made his decision and then left in 2008. Otherwise the math is all wrong.

Maybe someone from Quebec can clarify, but I'm pretty sure La Presse is a respectable Montreal paper. Respectable papers get things wrong too - but they actually quoted Rene talking about the layoff. I don't think they're the type of paper that would just make up a quote.
