Guys, what does Celine sing at the very end of Heart of Glass? To me, it sounds like „up till now, up till now no one can break my heart“. Is that what she sings?

You know the lyrics are on her website right?

yes, I know, but the last line is not included there. I guess she improvised there

I’ve had saveral problems with understanding lyrics on this album like:

- I thought Céline sang “I’ll be there” instead of “Oh baby” in the Baby chorus

- I though she said “believer” instead of “belieber”

- “I wanna sit like nobody’s listening” instead of “sing” (strange!)

- I though she says “I lay a dozen roses” and not “I laid”, which I’m 100% sure she does!

I also used to think that she sings “il veut que tu saches” instead of “je veux que tu saches” in PQTME which is weird considering it doesn’t really make sense, but after listening to it with the volume turned up very high I can’t hear “il veut” anymore.

I think she's been liberated in a way because of artists like Adele and Sia and Drake and other newer artists who don't sing as "properly" as Celine once did in the 90s. It's taken some adjustment on our part as fans, but she still sounds incredible and is more than capable of sounding like her "old" crystalline self.

I think she thinks this more casual way of singing is more authentic / bluesy / trendy / modern / current.

I wish she would put more effort on Heart of Glass in the chours, because this song is a masterpiece, but her pronunciation is so weird (gluuurs)

I really hope this song will be a single! It’s a real treasure in her repertoire. And it has massive potential to be a radio hit.

Credits for Soul:

Soul

(Tina Parol/Jason Wade · Produced by The Elev3n)

Now that Soul has been released to everyone, I just noticed Jason Wade (lead singer of Lifehouse) is credited with writing and vocals.

baby is indeed very unclear what she sings and i swear she sings i’ll be there too. That is why i cannot understand why they thought not including lyrics was a good idea!

Javito outdid himself with this one :-D So it's cheaper to sing Imagine than Perfect Goodbye? hahaha If this theory was true, Celine would actually sing only songs she originally recorded. She might not be a songwriter, but Rene managed to get her very good contracts in the 90s and she actually gets more royalties than artists like Madonna even if she is not the songwriter. Anyway it was so fun to read hahaha

and what about this; https://www.ukmix.org/showthread.php?64408-C%C3%A9line-Dion/page71

I think Eg White should write something more powerful, warmer, or happier lol.

Both songs are dark, slow, haunting in a way.

As for JJG, how come they don't associate with one another anymore. I've always wondered, everyone brings it up and discuss it while I on the other hand have no clue when or why they stopped working together.

Jean-Jacques Goldman has retired. Nothing against Céline. He moved to London with his wife and three daughters. He lived in Paris before. He wants to enjoy life with his family in private.

To me, I always compare it to her gold standard pronunciation of “All the Way” with Frank Sinatra to remind myself how good she can sound

Yeah, there's no question about that. Oh, how I wish she would have made a little more effort when pronouncing the words.

I love Soul, but the way she pronounces "no negative words" is just terrible. Did they only do one take, or was that really the best one? It seems like there's no one who actually dares to give her the feedback she really needs.

She still pronounced the words normally on Loved Me Back To Life, so it happened between LMBTL and Courage. She was still a fan of Sia and Adele then, but still managed to pronounce the words correctly.

It seems like she didn't get the constructive criticism that she needed. Remember the Us recording session when they wanted it to be perfect? That's what she needed. Maybe they all got lazy.

I just ordered the Courage Japanese Edition album on ebay. I am not 100% certain if I got the correct one though? It didn't actually say anything about the bonus Soul song and there weren't any pictures of the back of the album to double check.

I noticed another seller who was for sure selling the correct album, because it said in the title that it had the Soul bonus Japanese Edition song. It was a lot more money though, so I opted for the cheaper one. I am hoping to get some clarification from someone on this forum to help me know whether or not I purchase the correct album with the Soul Bonus song.

The UPC code was the same on both albums I mentioned listed on ebay. One was for sure the album with the bonus song, but it was more money and the other item was the one I purchased. If the UPC codes matches on both albums, does that mean it's the same exact album?

Everything looks the same. They are both Japanese Editions. I was just wondering whether there are different kinds of Japanese Editions to choose from, like if there is a Standard and Deluxe version or something? Hopefully I ordered the correct one. Fingers and toes crossed! :-D Any help would be greatly appreciated. :)

Edit:

I just checked to try and get more clarification and the catalogue num of my album I purchased also matches up with the other album listed with bonus Soul song. They both say catalogue num SICP 31334 and the UPC codes are both 4547366428063 I hope this means they are the same album?

In a cd booklet it says Belieber...

Unfortunately we don't have to accept that the courage album promotion is over. I will no longer set expectations for Celine singing in awards or appearing on shows singing new songs. All of this wonderful album was last year.

What about it?

This is just a description of a standard co-publishing deal. The most common type of publishing deal in the industry, I might add.

Anyone can be a co-publisher. Including you. (Including my parents, who have never written a song in their lives but are co-publishers on several songs. I bought them some co-pub rights in a few songs they liked for a wedding anniversary.) And you can do it to, on sites like Royalty Exchange, for instance.

The chief role of a publisher is to maximize commercial exploitation opportunities for songs. And by recording and promoting them, at the very height of her commercial popularity when she was moving millions of units per week, Celine certainly provided commercial opportunities galore. Why shouldn't she (or more specifically, her publishing company) have a co-pub share?

To take a step back and provide some context - a song copyright is split 2 ways: 50% writer's share, 50% publisher's share. In old-school deals (a.k.a. exclusive songwriter agreements), the publisher would retain 50% publisher's share in exchange for what basically amounted to a salary.

These days, most deals are co-publishing deals, where the publisher splits the 50% publisher share with the songwriters. Let's say, for simplicity, they split it 50/50. So the publisher gets 25% of the song (50% of the 50% publisher's share) and the songwriter(s) get 75% (50% writer's share, plus half of the publisher's share).

The co-publisher gets less than the full publisher's share, but still provides any or all of creative services (a.k.a. providing commercial opportunities for the songs), advances (recoupable against future royalties), administration (registration, collections), depending on the specific contract. The only time the songwriter retains 100% is when they are entirely self-published and don't even have anyone doing administration for them (which is virtually unheard of, because no real songwriter wants to deal with that headache).

Co-pub agreements are usually for a specific term, and once recouped, the splits improve in favor of the songwriter (i.e. what was a 75/25 deal at inception might shift to something like 90/10 upon recoupment). Given that the LTAL songs are over 20 years old now, the publishing deals would have likely changed substantially on subsequent renewals, and the royalty streams may have changed hands several times at this point.

And of course, the more leverage one has as a songwriter (e.g. someone established, like Carole King or Diane Warren), the less one needs the creative services of a publisher, so obviously the splits are in their favor since they don't require the publishing services that a start-up writer would.

Soul

Céline Dion

Produced by The Elev3n

[Verse 1]

No blade, grenade, no bullet

Won't let it get under my skin

Under my skin, yeah

No storm on Earth, no negative words

No way, I won't let them in

Won't let them in

[Chorus]

I'm not made of steel

I'm not made of stone

And I'm not made of glass that breaks in pieces on the floor

I'm not made of armor

I'm made of something stronger

I'm made of hard-earned blood and sweat and flesh and bone

I'm not made of steel

I'm not made of stone

I'm made of soul

[Verse 2]

I don't look back, the past has passed

I'm only living in this moment, in this moment, yeah

And if I ever fall, I rise just like the sun into tomorrow

Into tomorrow

[Chorus]

I'm not made of steel

I'm not made of stone

And I'm not made of glass that breaks in pieces on the floor

I'm not made of armor

I'm made of something stronger

I'm made of hard-earned blood and sweat and flesh and bone

I'm not made of steel (Blood)

I'm not made of stone

I'm not made of steel

I'm made of soul (I'm made of soul)

[bridge]

I'm made of

I'm made of

I'm made of soul

I'm made of (I'm made of)

I'm made of (I'm made of)

I'm made of soul

[Chorus]

I'm not made of steel

I'm not made of stone

And I'm not made of glass that breaks in pieces on the floor

I'm not made of armor

I'm made of something stronger

I'm made of hard-earned blood and sweat and flesh and bone

I'm not made of steel (No)

I'm not made of stone

And I'm not made of glass that breaks in pieces on the floor (Hey)

I'm not made of armor

I'm made of something stronger

I'm made of hard-earned blood and sweat and flesh and bone

[Outro]

I'm not made of steel

I'm not made of stone

I'm not made of steel

I'm made of soul (I'm made of soul)

I'm not made of steel

I'm not made of stone

I'm made of soul (I'm made of soul)

Most of these are auctions for a piece of writer's share, but if you look hard enough, you can invest in publisher's share, too.

You can also invest in song royalty funds (like e.g. Hipgnosis, which trades on the London Stock Exchange) or other funds and platforms like these.

Point is, basically anyone can own the publisher or songwriter share of royalties.

Thanks for these lyrics. I thought that one part in the song went like. I'm made of heart and blood and flesh and sweat and bone.

Yes, I thought that too!
