I’m so glad that Soul has been made available outside of Japan! I personally really love the song.

 

Maybe I missed something, but does anyone have any idea why the team did this? Is it really just a “gift”? Are they trying to see if this song should be the next single?

Does she really have to pay for a song license each time she sings a song in her concert? I always thought that she can sing anything she wants and it doesn't cost her anything, but she only pays licensing rights when she releases the concert on Cd and DVD. How does that actually work?

PROs (Performing Rights Organizations, such as ASCAP, BMI and SESAC in the US, PRS in the UK, SOCAN in Canada, etc) collect royalties each time a song is performed and pay out 50% of the royalties collected to its songwriters, and 50% to the song's publisher.

PROs track playlists and pay out royalties accordingly. Actual fees paid depend on the size of venue - i.e. it costs more to perform a song at a stadium than at a local bar.

The venue, not the performing artist, is responsible for paying these.

Javito outdid himself with this one So it's cheaper to sing Imagine than Perfect Goodbye? hahaha If this theory was true, Celine would actually sing only songs she originally recorded. She might not be a songwriter, but Rene managed to get her very good contracts in the 90s and she actually gets more royalties than artists like Madonna even if she is not the songwriter. Anyway it was so fun to read hahaha

I listened to the album for the first time today since December. I think I needed a break from it lol I was listening to it constantly. The release of Soul also made me feel like revisiting the album.

 

I must say, it still sounds fresh! It's quickly becoming one of my favourite Celine albums.

Turns out, the big winner is Diane Warren who wrote both LCMM and BYLM (and many others including IYAMT).

But since songs like, for example, lovers never die, how did you get here etc... are lesser known songs, wouldn't be easier to pay the songwriters instead of paying for a Queen and David Bowie song? I'm just guessing.

Something similar is happening to me, in my case, the first 4 released songs (FOMO, Courage, LD, Imperfections) sounds, for me, like from a different album. Then we have the rest of the tracks of the deluxe album, and now Soul.

 

 

From the first 4 songs I only listen to FOMO, but love to sing LD and Courage. From the rest of the deluxe tracks, I skip many of them while listening to the album on spotify. Soul, I just got enough of it.

It’s only when she sings “I laid them there, I laid them there, for you” that I definitely hear “laid”. Is it just my ears or are the lyrics incorrect, anyone?
