It’s not a good song at all, her pronunciation/mumbling is shocking hence why it’s a “bonus” on the Japanese version and no other album version.

 

There are way better songs on this album, that are way more radio friendly, then again if this is just for Italy then I’m not that bothered.

I don't think Heart of Glass is more radio friendly than Soul. Soul has a touch of Eurovision and it could actually work better in Europe. I guess they are saving a ballad for Valentine's day, Falling in Love Again and For the Lover That I Lost in UK could be the right choices.

Soul is the worst/weakest song she recorded for the Courage album.

 

That's totally in line with the kind of songs à la When the wrong one, Rain tax, Coulda woulda shoulda and so many others which degraded a liitle bit more Celine's integrity as an artist as well as her whole catalog. It's cheap, already dated and incredibly generic. The kind of Z list songs that goes nowhere especially for an artist called an Icon.

 

For the first time, she avoided that with Courage, the 2 more bubly popy songs are the hard way and heart of glass and they are good. They are not dated, the production is perfect, they are right in their time and they are consistant. Then we have different collaborations on mid tempo tracks, with retro soul vibes, or pop folks. She could also capitalize on names such as LP, Steve Aoki, Sam smith, Sia, the guys behind How did you get here.... It's full of radiophonic songs. Even if we consider that whatever the song, her time on radio is over which I consider right ( except maybe if she does a duet with a new and hype artist), there are so many things to present live, so many great surprising and famous producers to relate on with the Courage album...

 

But they choose Soul ? No it is not even radiophonic, it's a joke, it's generic and dated as f*** sorry. People seriously think it will help her ? She choose that over all the songs and names she has in Courage ? That's purely crazy for me.

Soul may just be released as a single in Italy, they do that, some places release a song as a single and other places don't.

Let's wait, I love the music, I deserved a video clip, but I will not create expectations with Sony and Celine.

About LD, I hope they will launch it when she is close to going to Europe.

I just listened to it again.. And again it's okay-ish but doea not sound in her comfort zone plus i cannot understand most of the words she is singing. The melody is quite generic and like you say - they have heart of glass and the hard way to show instead of this...

By the way, there was a little problem durint the 4th tour of the Survivor, it's "For the lover that I lost" who has been eliminated finally. So if you want to vote against "Lovers never die", don't hesitate to go and change your vote for the 5th tour ahahah.

You conveniently left out “I’m Alive” and “That’s the Way It Is” :-) Those are both upbeat, casual fan favourites that still get played a lot. It wouldn’t hurt to have one from this decade to add to that list. I don’t think it will sound anymore dated than her 90s music (or 80s for that matter) does right now.

On another topic, I'm still amazed on how and exactly why we got to this situation. I mean, from one of the best album launching in her career, to absolutly nothing, like does this album even exist ?

 

I understand that Montreal rescheduling changed the plans, we almost know for sure she cancelled TV appearance and even a potential visit to Europe, Also the fact that she got sick which maybe quickly acted as a kind of electroshock to preserve herself . Plus of course the recent tragic incident. I can even handle the abscence of the traditionnal TV Tour, Ellen and co... Finding that even cool that she's at a place where she can say no to those things. I believe also in a potential Netflix documentary coming, so they focus on that and keep the exclusive stuff. OK.

 

Still there is nothing planned by her team, how can we ignore that much an album ? Can we have a glimpse of some making of, can't they prepare simple things on social media to say few words about some songs, can't they just talk about the collaborations, just say a word: Steve Aoki, LP, Skylar Grey, David Guetta, Lauv, Sam Smith, The Stereotypes. Can we even talk about this album ? So Celine preserving her voice but not only that, I would say; her balance and mental health buy concentrating on quality time when she is not on stage, is more than fine, I don't even discuss that. But does it have to be that brutal, can she make a small thing for social media directly related to that album, right after the stage ? Ugh

 

I will survive but somehow it's even weird and a bit unfair for the fan. Courage had so many potential, and not talking about the sucess part. The story behind it, behind the building process, the meaning, the collaborations, and of course the songs themselves and their real live orientation. Well, let's see, but I'm already taking in the past.

Ttwii and i am Alive are great songs. soul sounds like a leftover that was meant to be sung by dua lipa, ariana grande or any other current young singer.

Hum I don’t agree at all. Well we agree on the conclusion 😁 I wouldn’t mind a Dua Lipa sound btw. Just that whatever you may think of Grande, or Dua Lipa, their ability to encapsulate the trends musically, has well as bringing the right production, has nothing to do with the quality of soul.

 

With Heart of Glass, The hard way we reach the actual standard of quality in term of production in the level of Sia Grande Lipa or Lauv. Soul does not belong to that in every way, anyone has the right to like it of course but technically it is not comparable.

I’m really curious what you folks consider “leftovers” or “filler”. I bet if we had a poll on her entire catalogue, 95% of her material would fall into those categories.

 

TTWII was clearly an attempt for Céline to cash in on the bubblegum pop sound, which —to some people— means it’s a leftover from Backstreet Boys or Mandy Moore or someone similar.

 

But imagine a world in which this “leftover” had never been released? That’s one more open slot for an upbeat cover song that NOBODY associates with Céline Dion.

 

While “Soul” is not my personal favourite, it is certainly not the worst track on the album imo. And to be honest, 90% of what’s on the Hot 100 is garbage... so if Sony is trying to get Céline to chart, their best bet is with some mediocre “garbage” or radio-friendly “leftovers”.

 

But ultimately, my opinion doesn’t matter — nor does anyone else’s here. As this album has proven, there are many degrees of fandom, and our tastes are more dichotomous than ever. Even if we all agreed on the same single choices —which we don’t— we are still NOT the masses... we are the minority.
