wjd Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 On the BMI website - the place where you have to register your name when you record a cover of someone else's name - Mariah Carey's name has been added, which implies that she will be covering a song that is so closely associated with her biggest rival of the 90's, Céline Dion. Quote Céline Dion, music's greatest ever singer, the biggest-selling Canadian artist of all-time and most successful female live act ever - what's not to love?
Popular Post smw Posted February 8, 2014 Popular Post Posted February 8, 2014 (edited) All by Myself and Open Arms were both classic songs before ever falling in the hands of Celine and Mariah. HOWEVER -- All By Myself was actually a hit and has become a song associated with Celine. That's untrue for Mariah and Open Arms. I wonder if Celine's inclusion of Open Arms in the Vegas show triggered Mariah adding AMB to her new album? Regardless -- put Celine Dion and Mariah Carey up next to each other TOMORROW to sing this song LIVE and I think we all know who will get blown out of the water. (Sorry, my Celine-defender came out) Edited February 8, 2014 by smw 15 Quote

I may even prefer it to Celine's. Sorry guys. 7 Quote https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PL54qnRGM2gMatthew Charles - "Fix You" - Live at The Stonewall InnStonewall Sensation - Season 15Originally written and performed by Coldplay
Angel2006 Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 To be fair, Celine did Journey's version of Open Arms which is totally different then Mariah's version. Mariah clearly did not cover Journey's version. She did a totally different version all her own. Mariah completely changed the style of the song and the notes to make it true Mariah Carey, Diva style. Whereas Celine decided to take the more simple approach and copied Journey's version note for note. If Celine chose to do the song Mariah Carey's way I know it would be totally amazing and would probably become the new My Heart Will Go On. It will be interesting to hear Mariah's version of All By Myself. I wonder how much she will take from Celine's version and how much she will make it her own. 2 Quote
Duchess Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 i just hope she is not going to use her airy fairy voice on this song. this song needs her powerful voice that we all know she has. looking forward to hearing her version. 2 Quote http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v158/Duchess_Nicol/flower20cropped.jpg

I understood that info on the site only says she´s going to do a cover....but not mention which one... 1 Quote Team Céline Dion Brazil@lu_celinefan
Prima_Donna1 Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 (edited) Maybe she is singing a self-wrtten song called All By Myself and not the Eric Carmen cover. Is their another source to this? I say that because fans tend to think stuff like this is true. If think this made up and laughable. Kyle_Jared Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 LOL All By Myself was a Monster hit for Celine. #4 in the USA, #6 UK, I think #5 in France. Plus it's associated with Celine and Celine only nowadays. This should be a joke. 3 Quote

Bell Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 It's thrilling news...if it's true. Mariah tends to do songs her own way while many of Celine's covers don't differ much from the originals. I had to say it. Quote 16 YEARS A FORUM MEMBER

Bóól'át'í Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 Personally, I always thought an artist should put their own creative stamp on a song they are covering and not copy the original song note for note (voice- and instrumental-wise) as Celine tends to do with her covers. For me, when an artist completely re-arranges the song to where it may sound completely different (for better or worse) then that artist has shown growth as an artist and singer. But you can't really tell if an artist has any artistry or creativity if they just carbon copy a song. I realize as I write this that most artists will copy the original song note for note (like Celine and Mariah), but do they bring their own stamp on a covered song? As fans we say yes, but no wonder critics lambast Celine and Mariah (and others) for simply doing another cover song unjustly without bringing something new to the song. 1 Quote

I think it is the worst recording out of the Vegas cover, even worse than Overjoyed and this says much! It sounds extremely rushed and while the melody is nice, it just sounds cheap production-wise and loses its magic since the hook is repeated throughout the song! Both the English and Spanish version Mariah did for the song are authentic and beautifully sung, seems like she really took time to think of what she could get out the song. To me, she acted much more professionally in that specific occasion. Edited February 8, 2014 by LukeD 4 Quote

At the end of the day the songs belong to their creators, aka the songwriters, the singers bring them to life and introduce them to the public which is all great but doesn't mean they own the songs. The laws in my country confirm this 'theory', I don't know if that's the case outside Greece too. Edited February 8, 2014 by LukeD 1 Quote

In Celine's studio version, I like how they used the cellos for the intro, I just wish they would have brought them out more. They are too soft in comparison to the rest of the composition, which is a shame because that melody is so prominent in the original, it makes the song. Finally some common sense! So much negativity here for a studio recording we never heard...! And this surprises you why? People were judging the entire LMBTL album before it was even finished being recorded. 1 Quote https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PL54qnRGM2gMatthew Charles - "Fix You" - Live at The Stonewall InnStonewall Sensation - Season 15Originally written and performed by Coldplay
Stuart2007 Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 This should be interesting. Mariah is still capable of great vocals when shes at her best. I just hope this will be better than her cover of I Want To Know What Love Is. Quote
Timster Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 (edited) In my opinion, when it comes to Ceine's covers, there are those that are a plain copy, and those where the song is completely re-done, reproduced in an entirely new way, giving the song a whole new dynamic. All By Myself is one of those songs. The Celine version adds extreme vocal power, and the high note remains of the most famous notes of all time. Whenever I hear people singing ABM, it's always Celine's version with the high note, which shows this version had a big and lasting impact on people, including non-fans. It made the song even bigger than it was before, and in many ways it could be argued that Celine's version is more popular than the original because of the high note and its subsequent popularity amongst female singers.
