LukeD Posted July 2, 2014 at 11:11 AM Posted July 2, 2014 at 11:11 AM Not quite celine sings RDMH which is vocally harder than breakaway as far as range goes. Also the consistent high notes very few seconds apart. Breakaway's a build up song meaning she goes from low to very high spreading out through the song. And the verses are really easy and low, its like 2 belts abd then the chorus. RDMH is high pitched, fast paced, and has very very high belts. The oppsite of Breakaway besides the Eb5's.Exactly. If she managed to nail 'Regarde-Moi' she can definitely handle 'Breakaway'. Quote

mike_z Posted July 2, 2014 at 03:07 PM Posted July 2, 2014 at 03:07 PM I think that's also a matter of training. We can't compare a song she sings almost every day with a song never performed live. The more you sing a song, the easier it is to sing because her vocal chords get used to it. She performed MYWGO only a few times live the last 14 years... RDMH was not sung like she "breaths" in the 90s as it is nowadays... That being said, I'm sure she can handle " Breakaway" if she perfoms it live over and over. But that won't happen. Actually, there's something I don't understand... when she received Breakaway, René said she was all excited and she sang it every day at home ... and she has never performed it live. I'm sure it must be as frustrating for her as for us. For sure. BREAKAWAY must be her best power ballad since I SURRENDER! Anyway, we still got the cd! 1 Quote
Timster Posted July 2, 2014 at 04:00 PM Posted July 2, 2014 at 04:00 PM (edited) It's much harder to know whether she could pull of Breakaway live or not, because she never actually recorded the song in the album key. If she did, then one could argue that if the key was lowered then maybe it would be possible. But if she struggled in the studio in the lower key, then it puts doubt over whether it's possible to do it live without making parts of the song (like the verses) too low... Breakaway is much harder than Regarde-moi, the entire chorus section is high and belted. For me, the song is more comparable to IS. Edited July 2, 2014 at 04:01 PM by Timster 3 Quote

Exactly.. during "Regarde-moi", same as LCMM or RDMH she uses her mixed register which is not as powerful and she can easily hit higher notes. But with "BREAKAWAY" she can't go thin... same as IS, MHWGO, etc... that's why she doesn't perform them live. I mean... she could, nobody's doubting her vocal abilities but she would struggle during a concert and she could get tired! 2 Quote
powerofamor17 Posted July 2, 2014 at 07:37 PM Posted July 2, 2014 at 07:37 PM The last chorus is as high as every other chorus... but guys I really disagree there.. RDMH is much easier for Céline to sing.. just like LCMM, just because she's belting high notes in her "confortable zone" doesn't mean it's a hard song to sing FOR HER. I mean, MHWGO is not as high as RDMH and still she's always struggled with it live. Because it's a ballad, because the way the notes flow is different. And "Breakaway" has the same note shifts as MHWGO (without taking into consideration that all of her BREAKAWAY choruses were pitched one semitone in the studio). We dont know how true the pitching thing is with Breakaway, and she struggled with RDMH back in the day and nailed MHWGO in the 90s. Now she doesnt avoid the notes in RDMH like she did at the Vh1 Divas Live performance. Which is where she murdered MHWGO, IMO. She was really great on that performance. And now she always nail RDMH and lips MHWGO. I believe if she actually sang MHWGO now, she can really do it all the way. Her voice just seems so much more in shape now so I believe that MHWGO wouldnt be a problem either, look at the bathroom scene, it was AWESOME. Breakaway just seems like another ABM to me. Maybe she can lip the biggest note like ABM. Which is practically childplay to her now. Idk but I see what you mean, maybe she can't do it, we'll see I guess. Quote

It's definitely the most difficult song to sing from the album because of the chorus is at the peak of her chest register as Mike said. I can clearly hear the studio pitching a semi-tone higher because the song needed it towards the end and not to enhance anything, but it's one of the songs that didn't have a making the song of...so for me, it was just a clear indication that it was a high-paid song by Sony and Celine didn't have much time to sing it. It's definitely more difficult to sing because of the melody and the arrangement, not because of a few high notes. She can master a high note but to consistently sing a song straight through ie. Is Nothing Sacred Anymore is extremely difficult. To Love You More is one them as well. Edited July 2, 2014 at 08:09 PM by stone 2 Quote

Sorry but that doesn't mean anything at all and I'm almost 100% sure that Céline did practise it. Why? Here is my point of view... Something went wrong with this album , no need to go through it all over again... but for that session of Breakaway , even a journalist from "le journal de Montréal" attended the recording as we had the review a few days after stating that he could seriously realized how powerful her voice was only in studio that day , that she was freezing in the studio and so on... ( and I don't remember exactly but I think he mentionned that a camera was filming...)I wouldn't understand why they invited a journalist if she was not in a good shape or that he could hear her voice was pichted afterwards..we don't have the making of, it doesn't mean it doesn't exist or that we have to doubt it.Especially when yeah we have the making of other songs, but uselessly as they all are dubbed. So they could do it also for that session and nobody could see that she didn't sing in that tone... Quote

isurrender Posted July 2, 2014 at 09:27 PM Posted July 2, 2014 at 09:27 PM Yes, I know that the pitching would have been done afterwards... But I don't know how wise is to invite people (especially from the press and especially for Céline Dion whose career has been built around her voice) to attend a recording session when they would know when the song is released that it's not what happened in the studio. I don't know, I'm just wondering what prevents the guy from writing an article and say " sorry folks but Céline Dion is fooling us in studio" haha Quote

Is Nothing Sacred Anymore is extremely difficult. To Love You More is one them as well.Okay, it is the hardest song on the album, but not the hardest song in her discography. LMBTL as an album is not vocally powerful, which is why everyone thinks Breakaway is so hard, I love it but its just not a hard song for someone like Celine Dion. Shes a ballad singer, thats what she does. Thats why LMBTL is harder for her than WAAF. Breakaway is just another ABM and BYLM honestly which she always nails. Also its not the peak of her chest register. Celine has only displayed half of her vocal range to us peaking at C6 in chest, and E6 in head. And thats so far, its been stated by many sources that celine posseses a 5 octave vocal range but comfortably delivers 3 octaves. As far as the making of goes, thers also isnt one for Thank You, Thankful, Overjoyed, ABYG, HDYKTMP, OA, OR LULLABYE. Celine can definately do this song as well as To Love You More and idk about INSA I never listened to it. She did lip TLYM also but they have footage of her singing it live in a rehearsal. And that was in 2008 and Celines voice evolved into something great since then. ABM is way harder than Breakaway even when its like 2 tones lower than the track version. Imagine if she sang it in the original format, that would be hard, not Breakaway though. Celines voice is just to good in shape right now for Breakaway to be hard. Its like umm Destin in arrangements, and flowing but quicker, and she owns in it with like maybe a minor out-of-tone note or a crack if shes tired or forcing her notes. I just feel like if she performs it earlier in the show shell be just fine. Actually she does ABM, Incredible, SSDA, RDMH, LCMM, all at the end of her Vegas show and still sounded great. Breakaway should really be added to the Asian Tour Setlist along with Be the Man and TYLAM. Quote
québecflower Posted July 2, 2014 at 10:40 PM Posted July 2, 2014 at 10:40 PM (edited) the hardest songs to sing are not necessarily the most obvious, when i sing the album with her in my car, the one i find harder is didn't know love, it comes more from the chest, and my throat relaly struggle before the end.(if you want i can put the recording...) Put that with my lack of technical singing skill... But this is the kind of song you must go all in to make things interesting. LukeD Posted July 2, 2014 at 11:35 PM Posted July 2, 2014 at 11:35 PM The chorus of Breakaway is NOT at the peak of her chest register. She reaches Eb5 I think (or E5) and she can go higher than this. She reaches this note in 'Regarde Moi' several times and also goes lower in the third octave. Plus, she is energetic on stage. In 'Breakaway' she'll just stand there. 1 Quote
