"Loved Me Back To Life" album - Official Topic

I honestly don’t see much of a problem with the pronunciation on “Courage.” I think it matches the mood of the songs.

Maybe a bit warbled on “Baby” but I still like the song. Other than that, I’m ok with it. The album to me is her best since FIY, which is my number 1. I love that we have a completely current (for its time) album from Celine.

I wish they had done the same for LMBTL, and omitted the Vegas songs and used newer songs instead. SLS, SYS, Breakaway, Didn’t Know Love, Thank You…so fresh. I would have loved the album to have been completed in that vein.

I love you but you need your ears cleaning out.

Tbf people are making it seem like her pronunciation and almost every song is bad. The main songs that I have any issues with are for the lover that I lost, horrible pronunciation, baby is pretty bad too, how did you get here and Look at Us Now could use a bit of work but overall not too bad. second verse of Best of All is a bit rough, and Heart of Glass is pretty bad. Note that I’m not trying to compare her pronunciation to her 90s material because that’s not realistic, at least if you’re taking into consideration how her pronunciation has been in her live performances from 2016 onwards. I feel like I remember imperfections being a bit rough, but I hardly ever listen to that song, so I don’t know if I’m judging fairly.

The pronunciation on Courage is lightyears away from her 90s albums.

I still enjoy the album and think several of the songs are good.

Can't imagine Kara DioGuardi accepting the pronunciation on the "Courage" album. :giggle:

she would have hit the board until Celine got it :D

I noticed this bad pronounciation already on the Encore Un Soir album. Some songs were spot on, but some sounded like live versions which got me wondering why they didn’t put enough effort into making it sound clean

Whatever the issues, the last excellent English album she delivered was 21 years ago. And that's a problem. I really hope she goes back to her roots if she releases another album.

Not the producer, but the sound engineer

Right! The sound engineer 😁

I totally agree. Bring back some of her all-star producers that she worked with back in the day like David Foster, Max Martin, and Ric Wake. Ideally, Jean-Jacques would come back for her too. And of course Stephan Moccio has been our saving grace in recent years with Celine. Apparently a man named Steve Mac produced Ashes... and her vocals were excellent on that song. So he can join in too!

Not everyone here agrees, but I 100% believe Celine needs to go back to her roots and sing beautiful songs with her beautiful tone. They don't even have to be soaring songs that are difficult to sing. Just songs that fit within the image/sound she built in the 80s, 90s and early 2000s. More songs like A New Day Has Come and I'm Alive.

A New Christmas album with songs like Winter Song would be a lovely release. It could be a simple, warm and cozy Christmas album. Throw on a full version of O Christmas Tree, like from the Walgreens commercial. Christmas albums are usually bigger sellers than regular album releases and it could give Celine's TAST a good boost too.

A duets album would be great because so many artists would love to work with her, especially now that she's faced so much in her life. I can totally see people who love Celine (or have worked with Celine before) -- like Adele, Kelly Clarkson, Ariana Grande, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Brandi Carilie, Michael Buble, Josh Groban, Andrea Bocelli, Barry Gibb, maybe even Barbra and Anne Murray, etc joining her for that album. It could be a big deal. And it could even be songs from her own past albums (like Celine singing The Prayer with Lady Gaga, for instance... beacuse Gaga LOVES that song.) Or they could sing classic songs like Gaga's done with Tony Bennett.

I would love for Stephan Moccio to write her an entire album the way JJG did in her French career.

Yes and no. I wouldn’t want a full album of just piano ballads.

I wouldn’t mind an album of what Celine is most known for - if you ask me, she has been straying too far away from her sound. Not that I haven’t enjoyed her experimenting over the past decade.

I absolutely agree! She needs a real, experienced and committed manager who would make the right decisions. That’s what she needs the most, otherwise everything goes to waste Edited by ryba

He wrote ANDHC as a piano ballad (album version). Ric Wake remixed it for radio. The two songs we have from him by Celine are piano ballads. I don’t want an album of just ANDHC and Courage type songs.

They were written as piano ballads, but produced to sound like pop songs. Good songwriting AND good production make the difference.

We need power ballads for the new album, this is one thing for sure. As the number of power ballads in her albums declined so did the album sales.

Last album to feature a range of power ballads was ANDHC.

Poor single choices and the lack of support from her record company is what tanked the sales of her albums.

Indeed, cuz Flying On My Own seemed to have some good on charts, so did Incredible (in my opinion)

They are just bad at promotion

I do not disagree. But the quality of her albums post-ANDHC is lacking. This either relates to the vocal approach or the production or the overall direction of each record.

Simply making an impact on i-tunes upon release does not constitute good chart performance.

There are so many reasons why her English albums after ANDHC/OH flopped.

- After 5 years in Vegas, she released TC, an edgy Pop/Rock album. The album is not bad at all, but her audience want their Pop/Ballad Celine.

- With LMBTL they were totally lost. On the one hand there is the modern Celine (LMBTL is amazing) and on the other hand the oldfashion/Vegas Celine.

- Courage was a disaster. Bad pronunciation and production.

The lack of support from Sony is the icing on the cake.😡

I think they did a great job making the Taking Chances album. A very different genre for Céline Dion but it made appeal to the younger gens as well. I remember that time. Taking Chances album were a bit of talk in our school before. Mainly the songs like “Taking Chances” and the cover of “Alone”. And for those who really loves range, They talked about the song “New Dawn”, because the low notes.

I remember when there’s audition at our school, most of them would sing Alone (Céline’s version). This is the most played on radio (I remember it).

And I really love this album. It makes me proud as a Céline fan that this proves she can sing anything. Any genre. This is also my most played album ever since

The musical landscape slowly changed starting from mid 2000s. Céline didnt really mind going after the trends unlike Mariah and Madonna which had their big comeback eras during those time and were always keeping up with whats new. Celine did tried reinventing with One Heart album but was dismissed by the critics. 1 fille & 4 types, Miracle, as such were not really mainstream albums and had a cute attempt in Taking Chances era, which marked her last appearance on the Hot 100, good publicity, and a big concert success.

From there, she disappeared from the global mainstream up until 2013, Loved Me Back To Life and was a success in Middle East and Europe. She did Sans Attendre in 2012 but obviously, it only catered her french music followers and us fans. It was followed by a string of concerts etc and came back with Encore un soir in 2016. Iy was a big success nonetheless. Then came Courage era, which was a slight mess. Poor single choices, poor marketing strategies which led to it being the biggest fall from No. 1 on BB 200 😭 and barely sang any songs from the album for Courage World Tour. After 2 weeks, she kinda abandoned the album and forgot it ever existed lol.

Sony Music and her team also needs to adapt at how things work in the industry now, with the rise of streaming. I hope Celine gets her much deserved comeback era 💖

I know we are all very disappointed at TC and Sony but some of this I think goes back to Celine not having a manager (correct me if I am wrong) and Celine herself not caring so much about the charts and how many records sold. Rene was one of us he loved her voice and wanted everyone to hear her and for her legacy to be celebrated. Even after Rene passed feel these things were still not that important to her compared to performing live and now obviously with the SPS diagnosis even less so. Totally understandable that right now she is focused on her health.

So with Rene gone as well as Aldo she has no one pushing the record company to do right by her and the fans. Just wondered if lack of involvement from Celine/Celine's camp causing some of these issues. If the singer herself is not so interested and has no one advocating for them with the music company, then it seems we wind up in the place we are now.

I so wish Celine would get another manager. Of course, she will never feel the same level of trust with another manager way she did with Rene but she needs someone in her camp pushing Sony to honor the legacy that she and Rene built.

I don’t think ANDHC as an album has really aged that well, honestly. Definitely a product of its time. I rarely listen to it all the way through. I listen to IA, ANDHC, IS, and SFL often enough and TGR on occasion. The rest is blah to me. I actually prefer all of the original songs on LMBTL over ANDHC.

FOMO hit number 7 on the dance charts. It was played everywhere I went in the summer of 2019. It’s not top 40, but it’s not just a ripple in the water either.
