AdrienneM Posted June 11, 2020 at 11:04 AM Posted June 11, 2020 at 11:04 AM Thank god it wasn’t released. Critics and jazz fans would’ve annihilated her, as they should have. The instrumental is incredibly boring and the scatting is messy and all over the place, as someone above pointed out, she even said “sleee” instead of “sleeve”. I doubt this was a demo, not fully finished no, but probably very close to what wouldve been the final product on the album. This sounds like they took her live interpretations and sucked the life and soul out of them. Quote

CSCfan Posted June 11, 2020 at 01:16 PM Posted June 11, 2020 at 01:16 PM No, they "canceled" it, because they thought the track (which also has Herbie Hancock playing on it) turned out amazing and they wanted to save it for a future Jazz album (in addition to the fact that the 'Water And A Flame' concept changed to 'Loved Me Back To Life'). 1 Quote »»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»» MATHIAS ««««««««««««««««««««««««««««««««https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NzPrxI0AIDY

That’s not true. Celine was asked in an interview years back about whether or not she would ever do a jazz album - this was back when EVERY pop artist was releasing jazz albums. Celine said she would never release a jazz album because singing jazz is a very specific style in which she has no experience or training. She went onto say that she wouldn’t never dare to release a jazz album because she didn’t want actually jazz artists to get the impression that she didn’t understand the difference. 1 Quote

couldawouldashoulda Posted June 11, 2020 at 02:34 PM Posted June 11, 2020 at 02:34 PM I think her 2003 vocals would fit for a jazz genre. Isn't her version of "Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered" a jazzy like sound? She did sang it well. I love it! No, it isn't. That's part of the problem. People think they know what jazz is. And they don't. Jazz is a very specific style of singing. BB&B is FAR from a jazz song. It can be turned into a jazz song if a jazz singer sang it in a jazz style but Celine sings it in a pop style. And, quite frankly, she does the same thing with Paganini. If you want educate yourself on jazz, do a google search for the top 10 jazz singers and start listening to their music. As for when did she say she would never create a jazz album. I don't know...I've been a fan for 30 years. However, there is no "that was then, this is now, people change" situation. Unless Celine decided to study the jazz style of singing (which she would need to do, like her studying ballet, for 2 years at a minimum) she has the knowledge and the respect for the genre that she won't touch it. That's what she said in some interview at some point. I heard it with my own ears but I can't tell you when and I can't provide a link to it. I literally don't know when during the past 30 years she said. I'd say it was sometime in the past 10. Quote

couldawouldashoulda Posted June 11, 2020 at 02:51 PM Posted June 11, 2020 at 02:51 PM Yes - if she did that. Since she barely wants to promote the music she's making now though, I highly doubt she'll start studying an entire new way of singing just to record an album...that she'll never promote. Like, seriously, let the whole jazz album thing go. 1 Quote

She went onto say that she wouldn’t never dare to release a jazz album because she didn’t want actually jazz artists to get the impression that she didn’t understand the difference. It is true... it was said in a written interview around LMBTL's release. I can't remember who of her team said it (and he didn't exactly say that a jazz album would be happening, but more in the lines of "or perhaps"). Edit: I found it... Rough Google Translate translation: The temptation of jazz The new formula of her album also means that we will not hear Céline sing the standard of Ella Fitzgerald You'll Have To Swing It ( Mr. Paganini ) with Herbie Hancock and her musicians. She told me first that this meeting did not give the expected result. Then she gives me another, more plausible version. After the recording, Hancock and his musicians started to jam and Céline started to scatter with them. "Nobody knew, but the sound engineer recorded everything," she says, laughing. He made me a record that I listen to often: I ca-po-te! I can't believe I did this, it was a musician trip. I don't understand how we could follow each other like that. I think that's the real reason we don't go out Mr. Paganini . They must have said it's so hot that you have to make a whole jazz record. We're not going to burn the punch with a song. couldawouldashoulda Posted June 11, 2020 at 03:46 PM Posted June 11, 2020 at 03:46 PM The article says this (from Google translate) Would you like it? -To have fun, that's for sure. But jazz for me is a world apart: you live jazz, you play jazz.-The Montreal Jazz Festival would surely be delighted to welcome you?-They asked us often, but I will not go there if I do not consider myself a jazz singer. " And she does not consider herself a jazz singer. What's so hard to understand about that. As I said above, IF she decided to train for several years so that she could become a jazz singer, then she'd record an album but come on....do you really think she'd put in the effort to do that?!! She's clearly doing as little as possible musically these days. (I don't blame her for that, btw, I'm just stating what Celine has been like as far as music has been concerned for the past 10 years.) I adore the studio version of Mr Paganini and I can't believe why it wasn't released in 2013 at least as a bonus track. Now what I'd like to hear is the studio version of Rolling In The Deep.
