Thank god it wasn’t released. Critics and jazz fans would’ve annihilated her, as they should have. The instrumental is incredibly boring and the scatting is messy and all over the place, as someone above pointed out, she even said “sleee” instead of “sleeve”. I doubt this was a demo, not fully finished no, but probably very close to what wouldve been the final product on the album. This sounds like they took her live interpretations and sucked the life and soul out of them.

No, it isn't. That's part of the problem. People think they know what jazz is. And they don't. Jazz is a very specific style of singing. BB&B is FAR from a jazz song. It can be turned into a jazz song if a jazz singer sang it in a jazz style but Celine sings it in a pop style. And, quite frankly, she does the same thing with Paganini.

 

If you want educate yourself on jazz, do a google search for the top 10 jazz singers and start listening to their music.

 

As for when did she say she would never create a jazz album. I don't know...I've been a fan for 30 years. However, there is no "that was then, this is now, people change" situation. Unless Celine decided to study the jazz style of singing (which she would need to do, like her studying ballet, for 2 years at a minimum) she has the knowledge and the respect for the genre that she won't touch it. That's what she said in some interview at some point. I heard it with my own ears but I can't tell you when and I can't provide a link to it. I literally don't know when during the past 30 years she said. I'd say it was sometime in the past 10.

Yes - if she did that. Since she barely wants to promote the music she's making now though, I highly doubt she'll start studying an entire new way of singing just to record an album...that she'll never promote. Like, seriously, let the whole jazz album thing go.

Same here! I adore the studio version of Mr Paganini and I can't believe why it wasn't released in 2013 at least as a bonus track.
