ryba Posted June 12, 2020 at 10:01 PM Posted June 12, 2020 at 10:01 PM It would be awesome to also see the video. If anyone would be so kind to share it (in a private message) that would be amazing! 2 Quote
Shaun Posted June 13, 2020 at 01:47 PM Posted June 13, 2020 at 01:47 PM For me it’s another example of the song losing its magic once it’s been recorded after originally being performed live. See “The Show Must Go On” and “At Seventeen” as other examples. 5 Quote Bringing you the world's only Celine Dion podcast show since 2014.Find us on Soundcloud, Apple Podcasts, Spotify & Amazon Music.

scielle Posted June 20, 2020 at 07:18 PM Posted June 20, 2020 at 07:18 PM So glad the Mr. Paganini recording finally surfaced. This really is an all-star rhythm section. Herbie Hancock (piano), Christian McBride (bass), Terri Lyne Carrington (drums) - all jazz legends. Makes one wonder what else is in the Sony vaults. 3 Quote
tal-sh2 Posted July 1, 2020 at 05:22 PM Posted July 1, 2020 at 05:22 PM No problem. Actually there's a lot of fans who still believe that she did record it, even if Céline herself has denied it where did Celine say that? PuraVida Posted July 2, 2020 at 03:44 AM Posted July 2, 2020 at 03:44 AM Céline herself confirmed in a UK radio interview that she never recorded that one. To Graham Norton? I remember that rumor...and darn, that's one song I would've loved to hear her do. It reminds me of Shirley Bassey and hence Celine's cover of "Diamonds Are Forever" that we still do not have... CitizenK Posted July 4, 2020 at 04:17 AM Posted July 4, 2020 at 04:17 AM Maybe Play Me Like a Love Song is really just a reprise for Mr. Paganini. Just kidding. In seriousness, I dug this recording a lot. Definitely got better as it went on. 1 Quote

smw Posted July 4, 2020 at 11:10 PM Posted July 4, 2020 at 11:10 PM (edited) Even though Rene's cancer returned at the end of 2013, the promo prior to that news, for this album was a lot of fun. I didn't love all of her performances of LMBTL but I really loved the interviews during this era. She was very classic mid-90s Celine again. Confident and a little flirty and sexy but still down to earth and humble. Like when she went on Jimmy Fallon and The Jonathan Ross Show, etc. I still think she didn't do a lot of talk show performances for Courage because it didn't make a big difference for LMBTL. She sang that song a lot on TV, and it still was not a successful song, unfortunately. There was plenty of promo, it just didn't take off. It felt like this album's biggest moment was in the UK. It really felt like Celine had a comeback there in 2013 which was awesome. She was embraced so beautifully last summer in Hyde Park as well, so it was a shame there was zero in-person promo for Courage there. My favorite songs on the LMBTL album are when she sounds like classic Celine. Any of the non-bedroom voice songs. (I still like those but I just imagine how they would sound if she sang in her more fluid tone). It's a great album! Less cohesive than Courage but still a lot of great songs. I don't know if Celine will ever have some huge comeback with her music in the US. (Although Ashes was a fabulous surprise!!) She still releases solid albums with solid vocals. Imperfections is a fantastic single. But she's now in a point in her career where her live concerts are where she's still a FORCE. And that's to be celebrated. All of the albums sales and streaming and chart stuff is just so different, and SO difficult, for older artists. She dominated at the height of her career, and no one's taking that away from her. I think of my friends who were obsessed with her in the 90s and now they don't care about her new music.... but they'd sell their souls to see her live. Doesn't that sum it all up? It's about experiencing those anthems that became larger than life in the 90s. The same would be true if Whitney were still around and had she maintained her voice. Celine will always sell out venues because she's a legend who did, in fact, maintain her voice. Fortunately, in the US, her fashion gave her a big comeback and made her "relevant" again as far as celebrity status. So that's wonderful, at least! And I'm still crossing my fingers for her to have some sort of huge music moment again. Maybe she can be a surprise guest at the Super Bowl? It would take something BIG like that. Anyways.... I'm now inspired to go listen to LMBTL. Edited July 4, 2020 at 11:24 PM by smw 3 Quote
smw Posted July 4, 2020 at 11:45 PM Posted July 4, 2020 at 11:45 PM (edited) Also, this is such a delight! I hate that there's not a better quality vid out there. This is literally when Celine found out about Rene's cancer returning. So, for a while, that tainted this performance for me. But it's become such a beautiful moment in her career. She still went out there and owned it. A song about love conquering all. I think it's beautiful, and it's clearly the message Celine wants to share with the world (because she includes the song in every single concert forever and always). She wants her legacy, in part, to be all about leading your life from a place of LOVE. Remember how much we all wanted her to go on The Voice during the LMBTL era?
