I couldn't agree more :) It's not my favourite song from this album, but it's still fresh and modern :)

Of course I don't think Celine is racist. She is a simple person and is genuinely kind. But I think she isn't exactly the most informed person. If you re-read the interview it's as if she's repeating cliches that conservative parties in every western country have been proclaiming for decades: that nonwhites/immigrants aren't "true citizens" (she uses the term "our country" as if only white, native Quebecers are true citizens), even though she lives most of the time in the US. And some might interpret her comment as if she were saying only Catholics are true Quebecers.

 

Personally I'm pretty much an atheist..lol :giggle:

 

she was giving an opinion, and she is not racist. thinking the contrary is ludicrous

But Quebec is A) not a country (separatist implications...), and B ) she implies with the terms "our country/our rules" that Quebec belongs to Catholic, white people..Oops about the indigenous population though..

Of course it's her opinion...people can have problematic opinions..

I swear I heard that there was a bidding war over her appearing on either X factor or SCD. So now she's doing both? Great lol...

SCD has higher ratings this year apparently..

But then she probably shouldn't have brought it up at all, because now there's a growing backlash. My worst nightmare is seeing it being picked up in the international press. Think of the headlines "Celine dion a bigot!". I care about Celine, that's why I even posted about this. Of course I don't think she's an actual bigot.

Chinese translation of lyrics is fine; translation of song titles is okay... but why do they just use a Chinese album title in the TV ad? I can't understand :o

I think she meant Canda because it's not only Quebec having that problem but the rest of Canada as well. What shoulda she said? "Our part of the country"? That wouldn't make sense.

and you are in Quebec and we have embraced you and opened our country for you to live in a better world, you have to adapt to our rule.

I'm imagining myself saying this and I'd say "country" too because saying "our province" for me sounds like as if you divided the country into different parts, separated the country.

She was already asked if Quebec should be independent. She said no (and even more people hated her for that). However, she usually refers herself as a french-canadian which I don't see to be a problem, e.g. I often say I'm western ukrainian. There's nothing wrong to be a nationalist even though liberals will disagree.
