I Drove All Night! Posted March 19, 2011 at 04:12 AM Posted March 19, 2011 at 04:12 AM ^^thanks for the review. Very insightful and I think you hit the problem right on the head... I was trying to put my finger on it, but it is definitely the lack of a central theme that is throwing me off too. Now I have not seen the show yet, but I feel like some of the song choices are sooooo random! Some of them work really well together, but as a whole it's just lacking that "put together" feeling. I would absolutely LOVE to see the show transform into showcasing her lesser known songs (TYLAM,YAI, IKWLI, etc) and some of her more known songs that haven't been performed to death, such as TTWII, TT. But until then, I'll just keep dreaming... and be happy that Celine's voice is back and better than ever! Quote

SuperLove4Celine Posted March 19, 2011 at 05:23 AM Posted March 19, 2011 at 05:23 AM I literally just got back from Vegas, so I'm too exhausted to write an in-depth review of the shows I attended on opening night and March 16th. But I'll give some general feedback... Let me start with, Celine's voice is the best I've ever personally heard it live. I've seen her several times since the mid 1990s… and her voice is just incredible right now. I hope she keeps training to keep it so fluid. The show was not ready to open on March 15. With that said, I think it could potentially be where it needed to be on opening night within a month. It needs time to marinate more. The show was missing a spine. It didn't have a strong, central theme. "Music" is too broad. Even "Celine" is too broad. It was obviously not given the amount of time it needed. I was pretty mortified with the projection screen coming down at the beginning of the concert to show footage from the Taking Chances World Tour. It needs to be cut. It felt like the Taking Chances World Tour all over again. I could accept it opening night… but it CANNOT be part of the show. The transitions between some songs were far from polished. After opening night, I thought they would have fixed some of the easier ones by the next night… but it didn't happen. Some of the visuals were stunning, even breathtaking… And some (such as the ones during The Power of Love) looked like screen savers. I don't see how the same team could choose such gorgeous visuals -- but also choose such amateur ones. I could not believe they built raised platforms in front of that magnificent screen -- and hardly then hardly used the platforms at all. There was A LACK OF THEATRICALITY for this show. I didn't expect A New Day… I was thrilled with the idea of a more stripped down, intimate show. But she just kind of walked back-and-forth across the apron of the stage 90% of the time. She should be on various levels more. All of her costumes, as you can see, were gorgeous. The overall energy of the show was slower… but I expected that. And I'm okay with that… but some songs need to be exchanged for others at some point in the near future. Some of the songs (the Stevie Wonder duet; the song she sings with herself) feel dated. And not in a good way. I love the idea of a duet with herself, but the song felt wrong. The Ella Fitzgerald song was spectacular… and the set used during that part of the show should be an entire set of songs, then she should lower beneath the stage with her band for a costume change. I loved many of the songs, but since there is not a central spine to this show… I didn't feel a connection between the songs. I could not believe that the last two songs were the same as the Taking Chances World Tour. With nothing special this time around to make it okay. The show desperately needed the high energy songs before MHWGO… but it just wasn't the best decision. And All By Myself needs to be cut. The lights during that part were embarrassing. This show is classy. It's all it needs to be -- but I was hoping for some theatricality that is a little more groundbreaking. Most importantly… Celine's voice is absolutely amazing right now. And to be in that theatre with her was an honor. So a quick overview: -The show is lacking a strong central theme (which resulted in some awkward song choices). -The transitions need to be cleaned up and more theatrical (Celine lowers into the stage; the curtain completely closes on Celine at the end of a song then she changes costume). She shouldn't exit stage left every freaking time! -There should be more theatricality. This space was designed for stage manipulation and has the capabilities for some outstanding visuals. And, as it stands, this show could tour. And that's not a compliment. There should be elements to the show that make it ONLY PERFORMABLE IN THIS SPACE. Otherwise, there is no reason for millions of people to travel to her when the show could easily travel to them. I completely LOVE that this show is more "Old Vegas" -- and I love that it's more focused on Celine and her voice. But I want theatricality in the form of more fluid transitions and use of space. Just a modern version of old Vegas. -There was not enough rehearsal time. And it's obvious. I think the show WILL BE fantastic. But it should have been fantastic on opening night. This has got to be one of the best reviews I have read about the show. You are absolutely right about the lack of a "central theme." A New Day... had one and its theme was simple - LOVE. This show is, yes, about music in general, but as you said that is too broad. Why not have a show which includes her biggest hits alongside songs OF HER OWN which have never been performed before? Just make sure the biggies ("Where Does My Heart Beat Now," "Love Can Move Mountains," "Beauty And The Beast," "The Power Of Love," "Because You Loved Me," "It's All Coming Back To Me Now," "My Heart Will Go On," "To Love You More," "That's The Way It Is," "A New Day Has Come (Radio Remix)," "Taking Chances" and "I Drove All Night") are included. That's a total of 12 hits with room for 5-7 rarities or covers. Add in "Lullaby" and the Michael Jackson tribute and you still have room for 2-4 more rarities. This is where "Then You Look At Me," "I Know What Love Is," "Prayer" and "Fade Away" could be slipped in. That's my two cents. Quote

fred Posted March 19, 2011 at 11:48 AM Posted March 19, 2011 at 11:48 AM After listening through the bootleg I can say that about 8 songs can easily be cut. Posted a list of keeps and outs in the "Songs for the show" section. Haven't got time to figure out which songs that could replace the ones I would like to get out though. However instead of Goldfinger I'd rather see another great Bassey hit like for example: Where Do I Begin (Love Story) or Never Never Never. You can see the list here. /fred Quote Peace and love to all.

sfbaysinger Posted March 19, 2011 at 04:51 PM Posted March 19, 2011 at 04:51 PM Okay, so I just finished listening to it, through headphones I might add...wow, wow wow wow wow wow...omg omg omg omg she is so so so so amazing...Highlights, for me...too many...open arms, Goldfinger, The Reason, damn I love that song and am soooooooooo glad it's back in there, the jazz song, loved the French song, wow, poor thing how emotional that was for her...you could soooo tell...loved the transition from BYLM to TPOL...surprising...unexpected...oh man, the things she can do with that voice...oh man...I loved the fact that in the beginning she picked up where she left off, bevan with the cities from TC and reviewed that...wouldn't keep that throughout the whole show run for the next x amountof years but great the first week...wish she'd sang Declaration Of Love but oh well...perfect segway in to RDMH...IMO there were PLENTY of fast songs...perfect balance...keep in mind though I was not there...but, you guys, you made me feel like I was...as I said last night, some people might have found all the talking and stuff in the background annoying, but no me, cuzz that's what reeeeeeeeeeeally happens at shows anyway...oh, and loved all her talking...so funny when she said, well enough talking for now and I thought, not at all...keep going...and then the way she introduced WDMHBN was amazing...and oh, the way she sang it...I love that song, sooooooo happy it made the cut for the show...she was amazing at the long note...surprised that ABM came after the emotional French song...she must reeeeeeeeeeeally wanna push herself...more power to her...your's...I love y'all's love of her...I heard soooooooooo many people shout out to her, call/say everything and then some I would have wanted to...I think she may have heard some of you...loved those shouting out things I could not understand...way to give her the support she needed...Tyler, loved the boobs comment, now I know what your voice sounds like and I'm sure some others from CDF sat near him and may have made it in to the recording...wow wow wow wow!! I'll post more thoughts as I recall them...thanks again Tyler and all for your technical help... Quote L'immensite de mon amour pour Celine! L'amour existe encore pour elle!

I think they are both two of the most subjective topics in the entire world. I don't feel A New Day's theme was love. You could really argue that Love is Celine's theme in general as that's what she almost always talks about and sings about. Quote

Love itself is a specific emotion as opposed to just having a show about emotions in general (love, anger, sadness, hate, jealousy, etc.). Having a show just based on "music" is too broad as there are many genres of music (jazz, pop, rock, rap, country, swing, blues, etc.). If the show had a specified theme (hits & hidden gems) then the show could be tied together much more fluidly than one that is too open-ended and is too loose. Alex_Incognito Posted March 19, 2011 at 07:26 PM Posted March 19, 2011 at 07:26 PM (edited) I got back from Vegas around midnight last night. What a long day, but I was "overjoyed" with the whole event. THE MEETINGs: The fan meeting was great because I got to meet the wonderful J-man and Davey84. You guys rock. And then I got to meet Mr. Superlove4celine and his partner. It was a magical evening with friends. I'm glad to have them to share it with. And it was also great meeting Tyler, Frenchie, and Celinefanonline. You're all wonderful! THE SHOWThis is Celine Dion's best concert. To me, anyway. This is the show that I've always wanted to see Celine do. I felt very lucky to be there on opening night. I loved seeing and hearing so many people from Quebec. It was wonderful. It's a very classy show. Celine was in full form and didn't hold back at all. I enjoyed the song selection. The highligts to me were "Open Arms", "Ne me quitte pas", "How Do You Keep The Music Playing", and the Jackson tribute. I had chills the whole night through, especially with "The Reason." The best part was sharing the experience with my friends after the show. We were all on cloud 9. I'll never forget it. I'm glad I made a recording of both nights. I'll cherish these memories forever. To many more Celine experience with such wonderful people! j411celine Posted March 19, 2011 at 08:43 PM Posted March 19, 2011 at 08:43 PM Got back from LV...the show was awesome...anyone is doubt will just have to see it live. They made us wait forever to get into our seats. Security was mega tight. Everyone had phones and cameras and they were allowed in but ushers and an announcements before the show said to turn them all off. I did see an usher tell someone to turn off their phone durning the show. The show was about 10 mins late. The crowd was going crazy with love for Celine. Everyone was in ah of her voice. Seems like everyone was frozen until she ended a song. As someone said more standing ovations than costume changes! Free programs with "opening night, March 15, 2011" printed (which were $30 in the Giftshop and nothing about opening night on it. Tip: bring lost of $$$ if you are shopping in the G.S. super expensive I only brought magnets ). The videos were really cute. The song list was good. A lot of fans might be surprised but not disappointed. We were in Orchestra 4 row N and Rene and family were in the 1st few rows. Everyone was gawking and taking pics going down the stairs after the show and no one would move; super funny! People were waiting and watching the VIPS get into the party. We thought Celine would come out but she didn't. We heard screaming and people were looking but it was fans cheering for the media. Someone after that said they saw her mom exit 10 mins. earlier. I won't go into the song selections because they have been posted already but I loved her singing James Bond and the jazz number. I don't think that anything was lipped because she sounded well rested and each song sounded different than the TC tour. The show seemed longer and a little slower than the TC tour as well which is good because the tixs are a little pricer. I don't think you can compare this concert with any of her others. What is the sure is this show is all about her life, her voice and the music. I want to see it again maybe next year! All for now! Quote
