So, I don't even know from where to start...

I've just seen the videos on youtube and I am currently downloading the bootlegs, but so far what I really find amazing is that I wasn't really sure if this whole cover thing was going to work out and apparently it really has! I'm once again proud of our girl! :wub:

What can I say about the songs, apart from the fact that she included one of my favorite songs ever in her setlist? I thought that singing "Smile" at the oscars was the closest I could get to "Celine singing to me", but then she comes and sings "Overjoyed" and then once again I'm just blown away by the fact that not only her songs that have been my soundtrack for 18 years but also others' songs that have played a major role in my life are getting out of her lips/heart! I don't think that I can love her more than I do at this point. :shrug: :wub: :in_love:

So thank you guys for the reviews, for the bootlegs (which I'll listen at work tomorrow and cry my eyes out ) and for the pictures! You guys are the best fans in this whole world and I'm proud of being a part of such a great team.

Now let's hope December works for me! :rolleyes:

ohhhhh no not the playback fighting again please just enjoy the songs!

:-D never took part on that fight but I agree with you, let's just enjoy the songs -at least for the premiere week! Later, all of you expert can tell which ones were lipsync, but for the moment we're overwhelmed by the new show!!!

I hate that we have to have this disucssion at all.why can't we just be in to her why do we have to suspect the worst? i love her, I am sooooooo proud of her right now, I, too could not love her any more if I tried...and I don't but I know it will happen anyway...and, despite our differences, I am soooooooo happy to be part of a group who loves her sooooooo much and is sooooooo loyal to her...

I was thinking about this controversy, and for me -just my opinion- I would love to see her in person sing either live or playback, half sung/spoken, doing rap, just talking -since she loves to do so- acting, or just being herself! The simply fact of being in the same place she is would be amazing!! Either way, I still believe she's wonderful as a person, as a woman, as a mother and as a performer! Glad to have her back!! :w00t:

Just for the record, Jimena told us in the spanish section that they met Humberto Gatica when the show finished, and he told her that he liked the show a lot, but if he was allowed to do a constructive critic, "there were too much ballads... think about it" :giggle:

This said by the person who has been Céline's sound engineer in all her recordings for almost 20 years of her career.

We can't be that wrong if many of us have been asking for uptempo songs in Céline's album promotions and concerts, and at last someone with sense says it! :kicking:

I hope he tells this suggestion to René and Céline.

From my perspective, the show was absolutely FANTASTIC!! I enjoyed chatting with fans (Cindy, where are you?) and meeting the producer was extra special... :clap:

I missed the Rene interview by less than 5 mins... Celine's voice is stronger than ever and it was great seeing her with a more curvey figure which enhanced her beautiful gowns! The premiere was a memorable night for me and cannot wait to go back! :kicking:

I found a few photos of the giant red curtain being made, plus a little story about it's construction.

Celine Dion - Las Vegas

When planning Celine Dion’s return engagement at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas her designers came to I. Weiss looking for a tabbing curtain to cover the 145’ wide x 45’ high proscenium.

In addition to the enormous size of this curtain, the added challenge was to provide a beautiful reveal on stage as well as completely tab out of sight. In order to combine both functions, the curtain needed to literally hang below the grid making it 80’ high. Each half was 77’ wide which with 300% fullness yielded two panels at 231’ wide flat, requiring 3,000 yards of fabric. In spite of the fact that a lightweight velvet was chosen to keep the weight manageable, the entire curtain still weighed more than 2,000 lbs. The largest curtain fabricated in our shop yet. It was motorized using existing house equipment.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal took notice during previews. “Until Celine Dion makes her entrance, the biggest star on stage is the longest ceiling-to-floor curtain known to mankind.”, by Norm Clarke, March 14th, 2011. The show premiered on Tuesday March 15th, 2011.

Listening through it right now (at IACBTMN). And can easily say - sorry cover haters - that Open Arms is a new Céline classic. And it was simply incredible to hear an old Céline track (WDMHBN) with her mature voice - more old (rare) tracks please!!!

Beside OA and WDMHBN the highlight so far is the audience gasping in surprise when hearing the beginning of BYLM - yea, like that wasn't gonna be in there. They got less surprised that IACBTM followed though.

u really think open arms is a new celine classic?? to me she sounded too robotic and bored on that song!

goldfinger would be a more appropriate new classic in my opinion, or ne me quitte pas, or mr paganini if it werent sung by ms fitzgerald.

On BATB now. I say cut each Bond song except Live And Let Die.

The Ella song was incredibly interesting. Wonderful to hear her scat, and since I am not that familiar with this song is this a Céline orignal version (including some parts from I'm Beginning To See The Light) or has she copied someone else? If it is her version. I say wow, really interesting - keep more interpretations like these coming!

Barney actually sounds really good. I didn't use to like him but he has shaped up his voice and singing technique really well! :clap:

At Seventeen is a nice treat still.

Now I am going to listen to the wonderful Ne Me Quitte Pas, which I have longed for her do to for quite a while... ooo exited!!

And no Open Arms weren't that great vocally Pat, but it does suit her quite well despite that. If it were performed a bit more considerately it will be a true gem!

Ne Me Quitte Pas was - as expected - amazing. The Piaf-ish singing is so wonderful to hear. I am really glad she did this song in French actually (even though I prefer to hear songs in English) because I have a feeling her wonderful vibrato wouldn't be in an English version. I do however wish that she wasn't so much "in a hurry" when singing this song. If she held most of the notes a little bit longer this song would be orgasmic.

I also liked Ne Me Quitte Pas because of the vibrato that she makes it present in this song again. But if its about beautiful and great vibratos I would have preferred Quand on n'a que l'amour (also a Jacques Brel song) instead. I found it much more better than this one, more intense and emotional. I remember her performances of LAP and Olympia and that song was one to blew everyone away in the hall. Would be interesting to see her singing it today ^_^

I agree that Open Arms is a classic, very well done vocally I love it, what is this stiff/robotic stuff, I am always enamored by her and to me, she gets to me and is orgasmic to me in a lot of her songs and their delivery.

I just got help getting the boot leg from the first night on to my PC. I don't do computers, guys, I'm serious when I say I am that bad, had to have a friend who works with disabled people and learning computer skills for a living...unzipping all the files in easy for him but not for me...and I won't make him go through all that agin for the Wednesda night boot leg so will say thank you thank you to him and Tyler for recording it cuzz now at last, finally, I can hear her, I can hear what i missed, where my heart was that whole day and all that night starting at 7-30 that night.

I think, in addition to hearing her, you know what else, I can't wait to hear you all, her fans, and your expressions of your feelings toward her. I think that would annoy some, but it's whay we'd get if we were at a real concert, so it's like I am there and I am about to go stick my headphones in and be completely blown away by her as she always does as only she can!!!

I agree about "Overjoyed." Using the hologram technology twice is overkill and starts getting gimmicky. If it's used only once during the duet with herself, it will have a bigger "punch" to it. I say remove "Overjoyed" and replace it with one of her own songs such as "That's The Way It Is" or bring "I'm Alive" back into the set list. (Why it was cut is beyond me. Ken Ehrlich even mentions it being part of the set list in the program.)

I literally just got back from Vegas, so I'm too exhausted to write an in-depth review of the shows I attended on opening night and March 16th. But I'll give some general feedback... :flowers:

Let me start with, Celine's voice is the best I've ever personally heard it live. I've seen her several times since the mid 1990s… and her voice is just incredible right now. I hope she keeps training to keep it so fluid.

The show was not ready to open on March 15. With that said, I think it could potentially be where it needed to be on opening night within a month. It needs time to marinate more.

The show was missing a spine. It didn't have a strong, central theme. "Music" is too broad. Even "Celine" is too broad. It was obviously not given the amount of time it needed.

I was pretty mortified with the projection screen coming down at the beginning of the concert to show footage from the Taking Chances World Tour. It needs to be cut. It felt like the Taking Chances World Tour all over again. I could accept it opening night… but it CANNOT be part of the show.

The transitions between some songs were far from polished. After opening night, I thought they would have fixed some of the easier ones by the next night… but it didn't happen.

Some of the visuals were stunning, even breathtaking… And some (such as the ones during The Power of Love) looked like screen savers. I don't see how the same team could choose such gorgeous visuals -- but also choose such amateur ones. I could not believe they built raised platforms in front of that magnificent screen -- and hardly then hardly used the platforms at all.

There was A LACK OF THEATRICALITY for this show. I didn't expect A New Day… I was thrilled with the idea of a more stripped down, intimate show. But she just kind of walked back-and-forth across the apron of the stage 90% of the time. She should be on various levels more.

All of her costumes, as you can see, were gorgeous.

The overall energy of the show was slower… but I expected that. And I'm okay with that… but some songs need to be exchanged for others at some point in the near future. Some of the songs (the Stevie Wonder duet; the song she sings with herself) feel dated. And not in a good way. I love the idea of a duet with herself, but the song felt wrong. The Ella Fitzgerald song was spectacular… and the set used during that part of the show should be an entire set of songs, then she should lower beneath the stage with her band for a costume change. I loved many of the songs, but since there is not a central spine to this show… I didn't feel a connection between the songs.

I could not believe that the last two songs were the same as the Taking Chances World Tour. With nothing special this time around to make it okay. The show desperately needed the high energy songs before MHWGO… but it just wasn't the best decision. And All By Myself needs to be cut. The lights during that part were embarrassing.

This show is classy. It's all it needs to be -- but I was hoping for some theatricality that is a little more groundbreaking. Most importantly… Celine's voice is absolutely amazing right now. And to be in that theatre with her was an honor.

So a quick overview:

-The show is lacking a strong central theme (which resulted in some awkward song choices).

-The transitions need to be cleaned up and more theatrical (Celine lowers into the stage; the curtain completely closes on Celine at the end of a song then she changes costume). She shouldn't exit stage left every freaking time!

-There should be more theatricality. This space was designed for stage manipulation and has the capabilities for some outstanding visuals. And, as it stands, this show could tour. And that's not a compliment. There should be elements to the show that make it ONLY PERFORMABLE IN THIS SPACE. Otherwise, there is no reason for millions of people to travel to her when the show could easily travel to them. I completely LOVE that this show is more "Old Vegas" -- and I love that it's more focused on Celine and her voice. But I want theatricality in the form of more fluid transitions and use of space. Just a modern version of old Vegas.

-There was not enough rehearsal time. And it's obvious. I think the show WILL BE fantastic. But it should have been fantastic on opening night.
