Confirmed: Celine is pregnant!

While we're still on the topic of embryos, I just wanted to say that my mum knew someone who had IVF, and had 2 embryos implanted. 1 developed normally, the other split into 3!!! So basically this says they aren't twin, twins like identical or fraternal but twins in the sense that they were concieved the same day correct?

MORE than 40 per cent of fertility clinics in the US are allowing couples to choose the sex of their child, a survey conducted by the Genetics and Public Policy Center (GPPC) in Washington DC suggests.

The testing method, called pre-implantation genetic diagnosis (PGD), was originally designed to test for severe or deadly diseases such as Tay-Sachs. It is typically performed by removing a cell from a three-day-old embryo, which is then screened for a range of chromosomal abnormalities or specific gene mutations. Seemingly healthy embryos are implanted in the womb; others are discarded or frozen. The survey, which covered 186 out of 415 fertility clinics in the US, found that around two-thirds of PGD procedures were performed to identify embryos at risk of birth defects or being miscarried.

However, the survey also revealed that applications of PGD have broadened to include choosing the baby's sex, as well as screening ...

 

I wonder if they already know the sex of the baby.

 

I'd be quite surprised if they're at all bothered about the sex of the baby - i think they just wanted another child - boy or girl!!

Hopefully in a couple of weeks Celine will be having her first checkup and hearing the babys heartbeat for the first time. Fingers crossed everything's goes well.

Ok, I get it, this whole IVF thing is very interesting... How cool would it have been if the RC "twin" was the case in this situation and when the baby was born, it would grow up to look exactly like RC... Normally, in a FIV, several embryos are implanted into the uterus, so that the future mum has more chances to become pregnant. I read some french articles where it is said that Céline had several embryos implanted earlier in August.

So, is she pregnant with only one embryo? Did they remove the rest of them? How many embryos have been implanted and maybe then removed? Technically, with one embryo she can have twins; but if there are several embryos, and if they all work, she sure will have twins (or more!lol) Just like Marcia Cross had.

It is my understanding, and I am in no way any kind of expert at all lol, that they implant a couple of embryos and more than likely one will "take" and grow, but that a lot of time, it doesn't work at all, and that that is why a lot on ivf'ers have multiple births, they implant several and get super lucky and either one "takes" and splits or several of the embryos grow. Didn't Céline have a maximum of 3 embryos implanted last time with RC? I wish she would have twins. She would be so excited But one baby is also just fine In fact, one baby is amazing

I highly doubt that. For RC she had only 3 implanted because she didn't want any to be removed...so at the time she could have had triplet (at the most) but there was only one heart beat finally.

And then there was that embryo of 5 days that was frozen unitil now and that she said she was going to get for sure in the future. She explained all about it in a 2000 exclusive interview to Michel Jasmin on TVA. So I really don't think she had several implanted this time. Of course some articles will say anything to get attention but I really don't know where they got their infos. Personnally I believe Dr Rosenwaks who's Céline doctor and THE only source to be trusted in that matter imo, apart from Céline herself of course. On tuesday the doctor had not even listen to the baby's heart beat yet. So Céline is very very early in her pregnancy he said.

It's possible. We know (she said it when she explained how it worked with René-Charles) that her body is able to support a pregnancy of three. If it's the same now, almost ten years later, she probably had three embryos implanted (maybe the 8 years old one, plus some "fresher" ones). Technically, there aren't a lot of chances that the three of them work, but, who knows?... For now, it's not possible to know how many of them have worked, and if one of them is going to separate and do twins, she'll know that after the first echo I guess.

But a multliple pregnancy is definitely not out of sight.

Basically, the egg and sperm were fertilized 8 years ago and frozen, I don't know anything about Celine and Rene fertalizing eggs anytime receintly. The fetus is not an identical twin to RC because the fertalized egg did not split and they did not take one of the [nonexistant] split eggs and implant it, and freeze the other. I believe now, that the fertalized egg that has been implanted could split and result in twins, but it is in no way RC's twin, unless the information we all have is false, I don't see how it could be. If I remember right, they had 4[?] seperate fertalized eggs, and they originally implanted 3 and wound up with Rene Charles. Can anyone confirm that?

 

I just watched oprah 2002 all over again and there Celine said that she had 4 eggs fertalized and they implanted 3 of them....so you're right . She also said that this other egg (which wasn't implanted 8 years ago) could be the identical "twin" of RC (not twin as born on the same day, but as in same egg split in two). So there is a chance that the baby looks like RC (the chance is really really small though, but you never know )

 

As for Celine saying that the last egg was/is a girl on Oprah.....I'm absolutely sure she didn't say that.

I too hope that it'll be a girl! It would be amazing to see her with a girl, and to see if she would look a lot like Céline! But a boy or girl, the most important is that the baby is healthy. This is all so exciting, I can't wait to see photos of her tummy getting bigger!
