boyblackuk Posted January 18, 2010 at 10:20 PM Posted January 18, 2010 at 10:20 PM Here are some new ones, I have seen recently and some others. Horror: Daybreakers, Excellent film I was expecting a standard movie, where vampires kill humans and it was not like that at all. Vampires actual are the inhabitants of the world and the humans are the hunted and its how they are trying to survive, with the help of some vampires, its really good Romantic Comedy: Julie & Julia - This was absolutely fantastic, meryl streep was excellent in this and it was funny from start to finish. Drama: The Lovely Bones - Sad Sad story but absolutely brilliant. Fantasy: Bridge to Terabithia: An exciting look at the imagination of children, although it can be sad. Quote
Céline74 Posted January 19, 2010 at 02:39 PM Posted January 19, 2010 at 02:39 PM I recommend It's Complicated, Oh Meryl Streep at her best again. I absolutely loved it. Quote http://i837.photobucket.com/albums/zz298/virgo17th/Sam%20and%20Me/Senzatitolo-1-1.jpg
amyja89 Posted January 26, 2010 at 12:07 AM Posted January 26, 2010 at 12:07 AM The two best movies I've seen recently are: Precious: Absolutely heartbreaking but SUPERB. Mo'Nique is amazing and if she doesn't win the Oscar it'll be a joke! Whip It: Drew Barrymore's directorial debut starring Ellen Page. GREAT movie! Kinda quirky like Juno which Ellen obviously does so well! Great cast and SO funny but touching also. Quote
whineupemily Posted January 26, 2010 at 01:38 AM Posted January 26, 2010 at 01:38 AM Just saw 28 Weeks Later! It was fabulous. Zombie movies are so cheesy but almost too amazing not to watch!Haven't seen 28 Days Later though.. Looks boring. Quote

whineupemily Posted February 21, 2010 at 01:09 PM Posted February 21, 2010 at 01:09 PM (edited) Shutter Island was fantastic.I saw that too!! It was brilliantly acted and thought out. The ending hit me like a whip hahaha, wasn't expecting it at all. I recently saw "Sister My Sister" and "Turn The River". Wowwww 'Sister My Sister' was extraordinarily disturbing and dark. Really great though. But the whole story, based on true events, was so interesting. The acting was fantastic. The ending made me cringe actually.. When it was described what happened to the mother and daughter. 'Turn The River' was SO GOOD!! About a mother not aloud to see her 11 year old son. She's described as a "pool shark", has no real job or home, but does pretty well. She kidnaps her son. But it's kind of not kidnapping, because he willingly leaves. I don't disagree with the 'kidnapping' at all. The man the son was living with, his father and step-mother, abused him. She had every right to do it too. The ending made me cry so much.. Very good. VintageCeline Posted March 3, 2010 at 11:05 AM Posted March 3, 2010 at 11:05 AM I know people have already suggested it, but The Lovely Bones is amazing! I saw it last month and it was brilliant. I haven't read the book yet which I want to, but apparently it is quite close to it.The effects are amazing! nano Posted March 6, 2010 at 12:53 PM Posted March 6, 2010 at 12:53 PM Postia Pappi Jaakobille (Letters to Father Jacob) Bottom Line: Less is penetratingly more in this beautifully delineated, superbly acted character study.PALM SPRINGS -- "Letters to Father Jacob" ("Postia pappi Jaakobille") serves as a stirring example of just what can be accomplished in a mere 74 minutes. A deceptively simple two-hander involving a blind elderly pastor and the hardened ex-con he takes in to assist him in his correspondences with parishioners, Finland's official Oscar submission is the kind of film that makes a truly lasting impression despite its brevity. Winner of the Bridging the Borders prize at this year's Palm Springs International Film Festival, the latest effort from filmmaker Klaus Haro (whose "Mother of Mine" took home the festival's 2006 Audience Award) quickly establishes the strained dynamic between Heikki Nousiainen's Father Jacob and Kaarina Hazard's Leila. Pardoned after serving 12 years of a life sentence, the distrustful Leila is no less wary of the blind, frail pastor whose isolated rural outpost feels like a prison all of its own. But, little by little, as Haro gently peels back those carefully concealed truths, the exquisitely acted, gracefully photographed (by Tuomo Hutri) tale of redemption ultimately reveals its liberating power. In the filmmaker's hands, the sounds of a whistling tea kettle, water dripping from a leaky roof and wind rustling through tall weeds become important components of the naturalistic soundtrack, subtly but movingly underscored by composer Dani Stromback's plaintive piano. Quote "Today, I’m a person on a path of connecting with my source and understanding that I am on the leading edge of creation.."

f_leary Posted March 23, 2010 at 01:48 AM Posted March 23, 2010 at 01:48 AM I've seen ThE Blind Side and I liked it. I saw Avatar twice, the second one in 3D. It actually made me tear up in that part where they were hitting the tree. I also saw The Hurt Locker about 3 times. It was intense, it captured the tension experienced when diffusing a bomb. Quote

winforlife Posted March 24, 2010 at 01:36 AM Posted March 24, 2010 at 01:36 AM Has anyone read, "Eat, Pray, Love" by Elizabeth Glbert? The movie is completed, finally! Julia Roberts will play the lead actress. Personally, I would have chosen either Gywneth Paltrow( sp?) or Cate Blanchette-both solid actresses. I enjoyed the novel immensely and it seems as though the author is excited to see the film released this summer. The cinematography and the few scenes on Youtube look like a great flick. I highly recommend reading the novel before seeing the movie. Jacqui Posted April 7, 2010 at 09:24 AM Posted April 7, 2010 at 09:24 AM Haha I almost slept through The Blind Side too. It was so weird, I had like 10 people tell me I'd love it, but I didn't like it that much. I saw The Last Song today. I was worried they'd ruin it cause I really liked the book, but it wasn't bad. I was surprised how many kids were there though, it's not really a childrens movie! Quote
reamary Posted April 7, 2010 at 10:02 AM Posted April 7, 2010 at 10:02 AM I have a few new recommendations! Up (the Disney-Pixar cartoon), it's touching and so funny at the same time, with a nice ending. Julie & Julia, it's based on a true story of two women living in different times, one becoming one of the world's most famous cooks (Julia Child), and the other (Julie) starting to blog about the cookings she does during a year, following the recipes on a book by Julia Child. I saw the movie yesterday and I absolutely adored it! Especially if you like France, French, cooking and/or Meryl Streep, I believe you're going to love it too!!
