Concerts which should be released on DVD!

When I was at the A New Day show in Dec 31st 2003 they were filming some of the songs. I can't remember which ones though but they even had a cameraman come up on stage (to the side, not in front of her)

I’ve seen the blonde version of the DVD. While her look was one reason it got canned, there were also directorial and editing issues, too, in my opinion. For example, I remember the English lyrics to “Et je t’aime encore” being obstructed at times. Plus, some of the segues from one song to the next weren’t as fluid as they could have been. I would still love to own it, but the version we ultimately got was, indeed, far superior to its predecessor.

And let's be very honest here, yes Celine changed her mind about the blond hair, but the whole world saw she had short blonde hair already.

During the worldwide premiere and all the exposure of it, she looked like that. Just the color of your hair is not a full reason to cancel an expensive release.

Business wise they new, by then, Celine would extent her contract. Giving it all away while planning to make her stay years longer would have seriously effect the ticket sales. Who's going in 2006 to a show that you already bought on DVD in 2004? They made a nice fun fact out of it, but there was much more to it..

Yeah I agree... they announced the DVD wayyyy too early! I guess then they still thought her contract would end in 2005... not 2007. It would have been nice tho, to have had a Ultimate AND... experience box: a 3 DVD boxset with one show from 2003/2004, one from 2006 and one from 2007, so you could have seen the evolution (or devaluation ) of the show.

 

I think Superlove saw it cos when Céline had to cancel shows in 2004 when she was sick, they played to dvd to the audience. (if I remember correctly).

Nobody cancels a release for that, especially if Céline, who decided to cut her hair for her own convenience and she liked it, then who's to say anything so as to jeopardize a release which has already been produced and announced, with the money that is at stake?

If only, like you say, it was cancelled because it made no sense to release a DVD of the show when they know the residency will be lasting at least 3 more years.

i still can't believe she didn't like her voice on here and didn't release it but thought it was ok to release A new day live in las vegas or a new day dvd (and to some extent taking chances world tour...she should've recorded it in europe and not north america)

What I find interesting is that she didn’t like how she sounded for millennium concert, but went ahead with releasing Paris 1999, which is easily worse vocally.

This makes so much sense. I bought that "blond hair mistake" excuse at that time LOL. I think the reason they haven´t released her last tours on DVD so far is also because she wanted to continue touring and wanted to make people come to see her live shows.

Especially with the laziness of changing the set-lists. When you basically perform a show for years on end with a copy and paste setlist and the masses (other than us die hard fans) see the same stuff it makes them less likely to go see a live show.

This makes sense. They did this kind of "storytelling" a few times over the years. For instance, didn't Rene actually borrow money from a friend to fund Celine's first album? But instead, they claimed "he mortgaged his house."

Although, they did go ahead and release her Live in Vegas CD in 2004.

 

Ultimately, I'm glad they waited and released the DVD once she had better hair. And it was a more Celine-centered show by 2007.

 

It would still be AMAZING if the other version got released someday.

The 2003 version had that weird unnatural glowy effect, same as the un coeur de stade Paris DVD. This footage was so damaged by the way it was edited, it’s really unfortunate. They should have gone with a better production company.

Regardless of the reason for the cancellation I’m glad the blonde DVD was cancelled. Not only did the menus and production look amateurish, I’d hate for the blonde look to be recorded and remembered as Céline’s time in Las Vegas. The DVD we got in the end she looked - and sounded - much better.

About AND... I think they should have released a super fan box edition, with the 2004 show, a show from 2005/6 and the 2007 one. It would have been great seeing the evolution of the show.

 

But what's the biggest missed chance, is that they didn't give multiple angle options.

To be honest I think all that would do is have people wondering why 3 separate shows from years apart had the same vocals down to the breath on songs such as It’s All Coming Back, To Love You More, The Power of Love, My Heart Will Go On etc. which is a question I don’t think Celine or her team would want to be asked

well i like au coeur du stade, although i don’t really like the glowing effect but she truly gave an amazing stage presence during the concert as i’m not really into her vocal shape (i enjoy her performances whether she’s in a good or bad vocal condition). And i can understand her bad vocal shape in that concert, she was in a deep sorrow because of Rene’s cancer diagnose that time and that was probably the first time she toured without Rene.

I agree, I just wish Rene having cancer at that time is something that would’ve been considered before her team decided to release it.

For me, the biggest crime of her career is how they never released a better DVD of the LTAL tour. She was at the height of her fame and arguably the height of her vocal abilities, would have been nice to capture that in a better way than they did with ACDS. And the look for the tour was also iconic, the big hair and whatnot.

It seems like they should have released the English version in 1999 or 2000 -- once her break began. It would have been such an easy release for them. But I guess Rene did plan on releasing the Millennium concert in 2000 but that ultimately got shelved.

I actually *do* think the lipping thing does come into their consideration when thinking about these releases. The simple fact they dubbed over the TCWT DVD shows this.

 

However, Celine has enough live material out there to justify a new DVD release. Even the final Las Vegas show alone has live performances of "That's The Way It Is", "You're The Voice", "Flying On My Own" and "Over The Rainbow" in it. Songs we've never had on a DVD release before. And there are more just from that last show alone!

 

Such a wasted opportunity. I'd love a "Vegas Years" boxset.

LTAL tour had an amazing set-list. Too many old songs and new ones featured. I particularly loved the medley they put together. She sounded wonderful in 'Tears In Heaven'.
